I would be remise if I failed to mention that AALBC.com received the Disilgold Best Website of the Year and YOUnity Reviewers Guild Most Innovative Newsletter Award.
Heather Convington hosted an terrific event on July 25th. She gathered authors, readers, artists and a host of other people to be recognized for their accomplishments. I'll be honest, despite my award I had my doubts about this event, but I was quickly shamed after I saw the number of people Heather got to come out to support each other.
Frankly, many of the people who got awards, were not not likely to be rewarded presented with an award in any other venue -- including AALBC.com. (Other than Rawsistaz http://www.therawreviewers.com/ReadRack/RAWLists/favorites.htm few, if any others, recognize Black book websites). This is what made the event so special. A couple of the award recipients were moved to tears when being presented with an award.
Michael Baisden was the key note speaker and many other accomplished people were in attendance. (sidebar: Baisden is a very skilled speaker. An interesting quote from Michael: once you become an fiction novelist you have to recognize that you are now in the entertainment business)
I wish Disilgold and Heather much luck in future endeavors!
