In regards to self-published books and print on demand books, which do you think has the best overall reputation? This includes price, availability, quality of writing, quality of cover art, etc. Which is best for a first-time author?

I dabbled with the print-on-demand method of self publishing for a minute and I give it a thumbs down. It's too much trouble for both the buyer and the seller. A book should be readily available for anyone interested in purchasing it.

On another post there is a website for a new store that's catering to self-published authors or authors that work with print-on-demand publishers. If interested it's www.opportunitybooks.net

I'm trying it now, and I give it a thumbs up. My books are available on-line around the world.

I find POD to be easier to use as a small press company I use lighting source they make my life easier because i am not fighting with an distbutor as an agent when I have a client who is self published I always urge them to get there books listed Ingram becuase it makes tracking books for me easier and the prospective client. But I have heard that selfpublishing is cheaper in the long run Moody Holiday & Jessica Tilles self published and they do well umm also the author of Ida B. went from self published to best seller with a publishing company so it really depends on the auhtor.
