Check out the cover of Kola Boof's recently republished novel:
Long Train to the Redeeming Sin: Stories About African Women

Note how Kola Boof mentions both AALBC.com and Rawsistaz on the front cover of her book. As unusual as Kola might be (or appear to be) she has always been a strong supporter of Black people and businesses. She could have just as easily published the book without the AALBC.com or Rawsistaz information, but she recognizes how supporting each other helps us all.

There are many other individuals who recognize the importance of supporting other Black businesses both financially and in deed. The existance and actions of these people are so important as we continue to develop in areas where we have had little or no respresentation.

I was about to write a list of all the others who contributed in a meaningful way to suporting AALBC.com, and Black businesses in general but I decided against it, mid-stream, because there are so many folks and I did not want to leave anyone out.

So instead of me doing it I'll ask you to do it. List one individual, per post, who has supported your efforts, or the efforts of another Black business. The idea is not only to recognize the individual or entity but to identify potential sources of support or collaboration.

Troy, I'm with you on this!

At the top of my list would be:

Cydney Rax of www.Book-Remarks.com
and
Marlive Harris of www.thegrits.com

These ladies and I have always supported each other in our endeavors to promote African-American Literature. While our sites and services are somewhat similar, it's never been a competetive thing with us and I think this is where building the literary community starts...with us all working together for the common goal.

-Tee

Tee I'm glad to hear that about Cydney & Marlive

I have another: Ron Kavanaugh of http://www.mosaicbooks.com

Ron and I have worked together, in a non-competitive way, for the last 6 years. Ron is what I call a "mission driven" Brother. His goal is to promote the best of our literature. He does this through Mosaic Magazine (look out for a new issue this July), his website and a not-for-profit called the Literary Freedom Project.

Ron and I graduated from the same high school, in the same year. We did not meet until many years later through our respective web sites.

Another mission driven Brother is Paul Coates of Black Classic Press http://www.blackclassic.com/ This brother, a former organizer in the of Black Panthers, is a strong supporter of our businesses. Black Classic Press publishes, as he describes, "obscure and significant" works by Black people -- BCP has been at it for over 25 years.

Keep the names coming...

Kola Boof for me as well. She has been a lightning rod for me as late. Getting me interested in fiction writing for the first time in years.

Her honesty, feistyness and constant fight to tell and share the truth is inspiring. It also helps that she reminded me of Thumper's Corner after several years of not being here. I'll be posting some news about her later today.
