I was doing some nosing around and noticed that EJD has published more than 10 novels and several other books.

What do you think has contributed to his success?

What do you think of his skillz?

What is his most popular book?

Hey Chris,

I happen to be a fan of EJD's work, especially his more gritty work like Thieve's Paradise. I am currently reading "Drive Me Crazy". I think he is a good writer, and is evolving to becoming a excellent writer. He is diversifying and not sticking with the "u go girl" books, which I think is a good thing. Nothing like variety. I don't know what his most popular book is, but for me, "Thieves Paradise" was the best! Happy holidays to you. How's your book doing? Still waiting on my copy, but it's all good, Amazon says it will be here soon.

Sisg:

Sorry you are having trouble with Amazon with the book. Keep me posted about this. A woman had some trouble too.

I ain't EJD (notice how his name is bigger than the title on the cover--he has come up)so my stuff is going to be down the pipeline I guess. Part of the mystique of being an underground writer.

Book is slow and steady--got a book signing this Saturday, January 1st at the Page Park YMCA--I am working on the micro-where it seems I am selling it one book at a time to individuals--and the macro--where I am pitching to groups. It' kind of fun to me.

The only EJD I have read are the one where he had the writer in the love triangle with the lesbians and Drive Me Crazy, which I just finished.

I think he is a good writer of light entertainment, I think that he gets some potentially heavy themes and really produces fluff--but that may be his market, agent, publisher, etc. talking.

Drive Me Crazy I would give a B--it was a good book and I finished it but it had some plot holes wide enough to drive a truck through and I never found his character compelling--his first person voice was not convicing--for this kind of character (an ex con) maybe he should have used third person.

It had plenty of sex, as usual--his characters always seem to take time out to have plenty of sex regardless of what else is going on, and he had little cultural quips in there that were entertaining.

I think this might make a good cable tv movie but not a great movie--

Did you find the male sex fantasy aspects of the story annoying--almost everybody who met Driver wanted to bunk down with him and went gaga for him-- or was that ok

Chris,

I haven't finished reading it yet, but I will get back with you on that, the male sex fantasy question when I'm finished.

Have a Happy New Year!

A little note:

In his book Dickey remarks on an incident that supposedly occured in St. Louis involving the black author character in the book where a protest was launched because he didn't go to the black bookstores.

Such an incident really occurred involving Terry McMillain.
