I must say I am somewhat taken aback by the little conversation that this topic has recieved on this board. I would have thought that, given this is the biggest story to hit this nation since the great depression and the high intellectual participation onthis board, that this would have spurred more opinions, suggestions, questions, whatever.

I don't know, maybe this is too painful a topic too discuss. If that is the case, I will assure you that the ostrich approach will not work inthis case.

There has been for some time now a great deal of wool that has been pulled over the American citizen's eyes, and the revelations that I have shared with others in my circle has started some movement. Still, my postings here have recieved cold to lukewarm response.

Where are the brother and sisters on this topic. Holla back yall!

Hello Disciple, it would be nice if everyone had the same passion as you on this subject, it's obvious we don't. That's not to say we don't have concerns but a discussion usually involves two or more. See, I can assume many can not invision the impact on their lives and if we do ...what do we do. Now of course you have your solutions or opinions on the subject ...then again would that be a discussion. Let me do this ...In Europe there was a great holocaust, even though million knew of the destruction, millions stayed because there was little they could do. Yes, some left, millions fled yet others were simply trapped by events out of their hands. Of course there's a message ...stay and do nothing or run, fight. The average person can not see how this impacts their lives and again, even if we do, we are going to get up and go to work. Sure we understand that it's going to effect credit... okay, and. Banks are going to have a hard time borrowing money, okay, ...and? 401K plans are being hit ...gotcha. Jobs will be lost. Tell that to Leroy while he cuts that meat at the meat plant. Tell that to Tyrone will he delivers the mail or Sista Mae while she folds the church flyer before she goes to work as a medical assistant. The Middle Class is a hugh number, most don't know they are in it or how quickly we can fall out. The poverty line is approaching Twenty Five Thousand ...$25,000!, what does that tell us? What is there to discuss ...solutions? Heck, the Fat-Cats on the hill don't know what to do. Politics were even blamed for the voting down of the "rescue". "Bailout" ...Rescue, whatever, call it what you want, we are trying to get to this weekend. Yeah, Dondea has a Homecoming game ...Aretha needs a new dress ...the car ain't running right, we got some today shyt to talk about.

I am sure there are many that enjoy some of your posts. There are Thousands of lurkers, they read, they laugh and cuss at the board much like posters, they just don't post. So I can assume you have an audience but don't expect a great discussion on this topic. Right or Wrong it just ain't going to happen ...can't you tell.

Again, a discussion takes 2 or more, we may be interested but.....

Besides, if you've noticed, the "discussions" that take place on this board can not be found in the papers, ya feelin' me? This "money" thang is headline news. "events" have a short shelf life around these parts.

Now stick your head back in that window and write yourself a letter and make believe......

You my guy and am just sayin.....

Carey,

The primary reason that i know so much about economics and finance ( and every other topic for that matter) is that I was willing to go outside of my comtfort zone. That's what learning is all about. Now if I was posting about how to skin catfish, I would understand. But the events and the decisions that are being made here will not only effect you and I in a big way, but also our sons and daughters for generations to come ( and for those that will recieve it, even in our other lives) so this is emmensly important stuff.

I'm not big on fiction and drama writings-- I have too much in my life for real to get pleasure from reading someone elses. But I am astudent of history, especially our Africain American struggle. I just say this: Martin Luther King is rolling in his grave watching the sacrifce that he made being squandered like this. He once said that " I have a dream that one day a young black man would be judged not by the color of his skin, But by the content of their character". Carey, you judge!

The silence here about this is deafening. Nad as I have said that my post are more about the laws that will dictate how capital is used more than the money itself. The fact that you can discern the seriousness and the implications from them just show how much further you need to go.

But okay, when everyone is complaining about how unfair things are as we always do, you can point back to this conversation and remeber I told you so.

Discussions do take two, either questions or statements will do, but you gotta be willing to engage to learn. am jusy sayin'

Disciple, I hear you my brotha and no one is saying you ain't on spot. Did you hear me say that you were not droppin the good. But as we talk do we listen? Did you "hear" me say we were not listening. Of course I am speaking for myself but the silence you "hear" is not the voice of contempt or one that is minimizing the situation. Yes, I can assume many can discern the magnitude of the problem but are YOU listening?

Listen to this. YOU can't give another passion, motivation or solve their daily problems. YOU, can't take away their mental agitations.

All I am saying is, if your purpose or goal is to inspire "conversation" on this subject, on this board, you might wish to adjust your thinking ...you, not us.

Like Script told me (she's a fireball ain't she) ...run with the Elk ...I mean, stick too your ilk. you're doing what you do ...if you like it I love it. You saw Script jump back in the fray ...she wasn't detered. She called me a retard and she's still a potatoe head *lol* but do what you do! But through it all, she said she had to go fix something to eat for her kids ...that was big.

Don't hate the players, hate the game. Game is to be sold and not told. But some drops on the ground if we are willing to pick it up, even if we don't say nothing.

But hey, maybe your goal is being accomplished ...we talkin' ...Carey and Disciple are talking on this fine sunny day. And I can assume some are reading. So do you, only you can do Disciple!

No one can be a Pug Nose Retard or an instigating shyt starter like someone we know but hey, I ain't made at ya.

Carey,

I feel you man, its just that this is some serious crap going on and voices need to be heard ( before they stick it to ya, not after he's done) but I guess some like rough, what can I say.

I believe passion can be contagious ( see Martin nd Malcolm) not that im up to these but I am trying.

Still, i got love for ya!

Carey,

maybe I phased my question wrong, I assure you I am not trying to pry into your personal business. But I am trying to make a point. Let's approach this differently.

If you go to www.mortgagecalculator.com, you will find that a person using a 30 year mortgage of 250,000 @ 6.5% (exclude taxes and pmi to make a point) you would see that they would pay $318,000 in interest over the life of that loan.

That money ( multiplied by millions is what has made wall street types rich) They have this money be cause most people entry into these arangements without fully considering them.

Translating the language of math into english; this means that you entyer into an agreement to work for the banker for twenty years if he will allow you to work the last ten for yourself.

Now I know that this is the way that almost everyone else has done it, but that is why we are impoverished. Now these institutions lobby to the representatives and the senators that are supposed to protect you from this type of usarious arrangement, but because you either don't know or won't speak, he excepts the bribe instead.

Now if our community were to say NO! that the fruits of my labor should go first to my families shelter, not to some bankers yacht, those that have a fiduciary responsiblity to you would have to be accountable, and you and your community would be transformed.

But instead we poke our faces in the comfort of some good book that, while it will massage the grey matter for a while, won't make any material change in your lives or your children, nor your community. Not preaching, i'm just sayin.

BTW. $318,000 invested into buy ownership in nike when Jordan first signed instead we buy the sneakers, would have ammassed into a fortune close to $160 million plus. Now, I drop these bombs, not because I am any better, I have wasted more than my fair share of time and millions, but at some point we have to wake up. I'm just sayin'

Hey, Disciple, I am so pleased that you are sitting in today. As always you say things that inspire thought and give a little knowledge along the way. Frequently we say things without a real bite to them. We say things because they sound good and don't give them much real thought. I say that because I am guilty of such and witness others doing the same. One of your statements took me there. You said, passion can be contagious. I will first tell you what that statement did for me. I believe in a saying I use but sometimes do not apply it on a regular basis. I say, "I believe that some get "feelings" and "right" sort of mixed up. "Right", doesn't always feel good". Consequently, if I truly believe that statement (I do )then why has it been so hard for me to move on some things that I know to be right? One Case in point: I am doing this excercise thang ...and when I feel "good" I am all over it but when I don't feel like jumping on my bike or getting on the floor, I frequently do not. It's buggin' me man. I am struggling with moving feelings out of the way or at least identifying them and using them at the right time. It does not feel good to identify things in my character that I know will imped my ability to be a better person but the rewards of doing so are great. Anyway, back to you.

So now I am back to your little saying, "Passion is contagious". Now I want you to think on this and hit me. I know you are a 1-2-3...A-B-C type fellow, so, how can it really be contagious. Passion is an emotion. Next, lets say it is as you say, does it come from listening, watching or joining in ...much like faith, does it grow or is it right there and we run with it. Again, I want you to think on this. As you know thinking is one of the hardest things we do, if not the hardest. Now you KNOW (or I hope you do), I will be looking for the meat beneath the fluff. You referenced Malcolm and Dr. King, two of my heroes. Malcolm said, "If your kitchen is dirty ...your house is dirty". Dr. King hit us with this one. "Many people fear nothing more terribly than to take a position which stands out sharply and clearly from the prevailing opinion. The tendecy of most is to adopt a view that is so ambigious that it will include everything and so popular that it will include everybody".

Both quotes have been very inspirational to me. Tell me your take on "passion" ...an intense emotion ...and it's contagious qualities. I need you.

Come on and sprinkle a little wisdom on me with your good talking ass *lol*.

Slow your roll, don't make your move too soon!

Fools rush in where others tread not!

Carey,

Passion is a derivative of love, which is the strongest bond that can exist between two living beings. When it is in its purest form, It exist between God and man, Man and mate, Man and friend, and man and child ( I used man as in mankind so woman is inclusive). Passion acn also be stirred if and when something threatens that love. Since I have an intense love for my people, anything that threatens them stirs my passion, and these things, as subtle as they may be, are a huge threat to my family.

Now I could get real deep on this, so I will, as you suggest take it slow. Setting aside passion for a moment; consider this. Where does the soul of a man lie?

OHHHH NO, we ain't going to do the "answer the question with a question" thang. You show me yours and I'll show you mine.

Now if you wish to concede and say you might have spoke to soon or that you wish to take back your statement, that would be cool, that's what real men do. But your previous reply, your last reply wasn't addressing my question. Deep is cool but don't be shakin' and bakin', I mean just answer the question. Tell me how Passion is contagious, simple right?

I am going to blend up a cup of coffee and grab some potatoe soup complete with bit of sausage. I bought it from Olive Garden, they have a fancy name for it but hey (good stuff, salad too) and I'll let you "THINK".

I'm not big on fiction and drama writings-- I have too much in my life for real to get pleasure from reading someone elses.

Funny thing to say on a literature-focused discussion site--especially if you are trying to engage folks in conversation. If I may suggest: You should not assume that because people are not responding to your posts the way you would have them respond that does not mean they have their heads in the sand about financial/economic issues.

Yvette,

I'm not big on fiction and drama because often there is no resolution and there are only so many ways that you can tell the same story; IMHO. Non-fiction writings and discussions suit my tatse better.

The discussion board that I made the majority of my post to is entitled race, culture, and economy. And since our race and our culture was facing the biggest economic crisis in history I deemed it appropriate; especially since I have much to offer in this area.

So how should one respond when they initiate a conversation on a discission board full of intellects on a topic that effects everyone, yet it garners no or little response? What can I assume from this?

Well if "their head are not in the sand" about the issue, would it be safe to say that you were ignoring me? If so why?

Could it be I have said some hurtful words in the past? Nah; I'm sure that given our experiences as black folks, my words rank low on the insult richter scale, so I don't think it is that.

Maybe, I don't meet a certain standard. After all, one poster stated that they could not have a meaningful discussion with me unless it revolved around a "university educational" standard. Never mind that everything that I mentioned to that person was later confirmed.

Note to self: Must get a PWI degree to be heard.

How elitist as that. You can't engage someone unless they are on the level you percieve yourself to be on. What does that say about DuBois's "talented tenth" theory? Sad!

Yvette, I could care less if you respond to me or not. The issue is what's important here, not me. I'm just one of the messengers. It would have been fine for you to talk around me as usual especially since-- as another poster said they found my "post boring".

All I can say, don't hate the playa...hate the game.

LOL--that's a whole lotta assumptions from only a few words from me! Obviously, bring up anything you want. Discussion goes in cycles on most boards so maybe you're just attempting conversation during a time when folks are not on-line much. In general, though, people here tend to have many interests, and enjoy talking about a wide range of subjects. One does not have to have a university degree to be interested in and curious about the world.

Yvette,

You don't have to remind me of that i already know!

Yet, what some call interest, in the grander scheme of things, could acutually be distractions. It would be the first time that so legislations to us hoodwinked us to which afterwards we garner that "buckwheat" like expression: "Huh! No one tol' I".

Some of us have become so comfortable with our Masters that we actually trust them ;)

But I've this feeling that if you were standing in her yard she might have a few choice words for your butt. Now I ain't saying this is true but does she intimatated you? Am just saying.....

You pulled out some old stuff and fired it back at her and I don't think any of it was from her. Ain't you got a job *lol*.

In communications, sometimes you say more by saying nothing than you can with words.

Besides this is not about a intellectual battle, true intelligences compliment each other, and is only in conflict with ignorance. So anyone that think that they have some..bring it. If not ....

As far as intimidation, actually I think that she has one of the better minds that I have observed in a while. And her debative style is gentle but strong. Only a weak man would be intimidated by that. So in short not at all.

Of course you know I am just messing with you ...doing my thang. I know you aint scared.

I have to agree, Yvette got some game. But again, I bet if we were standing in her kitchen that gentle little thang would ...well, you know *lol*.

Anyway man, what's up with you today, how's it hangin'? I gotta run some of this fat off me. Yes sir, death is all around my feet, can't stand still. It's nice kickin' it with you, and I mean that yet I gotta move around. I think I'll stop by my little barber shop and get the "real" good. Them brothas bring me back, they let me know the worlds alright and I am alright with the world.

Thump dropped "ol'grayhead" on me. I wonder if I can use that to get some kind of break. See, I ain't even worried about a rescue or bailout, am trying to get a discount :-).

Carey, if you and D724 were standing in my kitchen I would make you unload the dishwasher. Likely nothing more. Tip well at the barber shop, brother. :-)

If there were no players, there wouldn't even be a goddamn game. For instance, suppose George Bush started a war, and nobody showed up? Unfortunately, people do bother to show up. the players.

Libra,

I feel your pain, and I want you to know that you are not alone. Collectively, we can resolve this issue; but we have to fully identify the problem to solve it.

If it makes yu feel any better, I, after years in finacial services making millions, I too fell on hard times. between 9/11, separation from my family, death of my wife of 13 years, i was severely depressed, and went on a 7 years stint of homelessness ( much of it self-induced). The point is that God took me through all of this and opened my eyes to many things that while I was on top I had overlooked. I believe that He know, once my pride had been stripped away, that I would get it and knowing the fighter he put in me I would show it.

There are some things in this economy system that guarentee that folks like us can not when. They are real subtle but easy to understand if one takes the time to look at it.

Now we have intelligent folks on this site, and they could make a big change, but only if they engage onthese issues.

My man Disciple, we do have a lot in common. Our stories are similar (I think you once said that). Yes sir, I've also been through a storm, consequently, just like you, I am on the other side. Maybe we need to talk about this book thang. You have a story. My blues may not be like yours but it rained.

Lets see, what could we call it...uummmm?

Now of course you'd have to back off some of your preaching and I'd have to lay down most of my foolish-nish but there's a seat waiting for you on Oprah's couch. Hey, God ain't done with you yet.

You got the dough ...we got the flow ...lets go! Christian...non-fiction...self help...what you think? You've been talking about change, am trying to put a little of that in my pocket :-).

Carey,

I don't know, I starting to really think that people don't really want to dialouge seriously about this issue. I just don't see a market for it. Poor blacks only want to read thrash, upper class want "intellectual stimulus" and I just don't see a market for change style books, but imight be wrong.

Well Disciple, I have to hit you upside the head one-mo-gin. You are stuck on this "serious dialogue" thang. Wasn't it you that said "passion is contagious"? I think it was you that also said the best stories can only be told by those who have experienced the "story". I am sure you are not saying change comes from ...what?

Look, I didn't say anything about a change style book. But you are the one posting quotes by Dr. King...what's the purpose. I've asked you to think and yet you still seem to be talking. Does "inspiration" do anything for you? I love it when I see someone fall down and get back up. That's an example of how I maybe can do it. So, considering your "expertise" in the struggles of life and your insight into most thangs financial, I would think a book would be your cup of tea ...show us how you did it. You know we are black people. We've seen all types of hustlers and big talkers. You gotta bring the new, the show me shyt.

Again my man, when you open a discussion you flood in. I know you feel me or maybe you don't. Maybe that's your nature and you just can't see it. My nature is to be a clown. I mean I tend to see something humorous in most things. So I don't really get all bent out of shape when people tell me to shut my mouth or all the other names I've been called on the board. But when I decide to get on something I too take it seriously. You don't seem to be feeling the crowd. Have you noticed that many sign a post and get no hits. It's done every day. That's not to say other didn't get something from it. Look at the board, there are more posts that go untouched than there are those that get 20 or more hits. Look at the tread that Thump and the boys are working with. They come back after a few days and join back in. Tonya sprinkles something on the board on the daily. Yvette might drop something about music or womens issues. Some love to talk politics others would rather talk religion yet there are some that could care less about both. Kitty hits us with her present projects with the hopes that others might run with them. Cyn-Cyn does her thang, over 10,000 thangs. Troy takes us along on his many adventures. Thumper keeps us in check on the book tip. Crystal cries after the Bruin lose ...opps. ABM brings flavor from various angles. Li-Li brings the real. If you ran up into a Klu Klux Klan rally and yelled "all honkies smell like goats" I bet you'd get "conversation".

My man, I wasn't talking about a "change" book, I was talking about an interesting read, maybe that's something you just can't get with.

But you still my Ni**er!

Carey,

I hear ya, but I just not the idle chatter type! I've always lived every minute of my life with a real sense of purpose; even when I was down, that's why I always get up.

Well Disciple I’ll give you my take on this post. If it seems that you are more involved in this matter than most who post here it may be because you ARE more involved. It appears that this is your area of business and you and most likely the day-to-day people around you are in the business so of course it’s what you are talking/worrying about all day every day. You’re also most likely privy to more of the “real” info on the situation than most of us. Most of us get our info from the mainstream media and we all know they only tell us what they want us to hear.

As was mentioned earlier it’s only the last couple of days that this mess has been explained to us regular folk as something that will affect us also – falling credit for individuals and small business and falling property tax revenues which means reduced services [especially for education]. I blame the “we don’t have to explain nothing to nobody” attitude of Bush administration. Last week all we heard was bailout Wallstreet and of course most regular folks started yelling “F” Wallstreet and for once the congress listened and didn’t get out the vote. Now that we’re hearing a little more of the real deal more folks are listening and nudging this thing along.

I don’t know what it is you want us to discuss here. It seems like you think you may have some answers and that’s great, you should if that’s the business you’re in and I hope you do. But like Carey asked – what can we do here?

Crystal,

The business that I am in is economics and finance, which is the business that everyone of us are in. What aspect of your lives are not affected by these? Nowadays, these even affect your spiritual constitutions.

"it’s only the last couple of days that this mess has been explained to us regular folk as something that will affect us also"

If you look back, I have been warning about this for over 3 weeks now, even in the face of "leaders" saying otherwise. I posted a detailed explanations and offered illustrations so that even my 14 year son understood it to the degree that he wrote a report on it on his own.

Back then, with open and good spirited dialogue, there was time to get in front of this with your legislators. But, unfortunately those weren't as well recieved as I had hoped (or only a few entered in the discussion). Many, doubted my credentials to even bring this type of info, others thought that it was out of place, and some still think that its a joke.

Still, as I have always done in my life as a CEO, if the job doesn't get done, your have to be accountable, so as far as blame goes, you can put the blame on me. They have not one ounce of passion (save for hate) as to how your lives are effected so they have no reason to report the truth to you.

In closing, all I can say Crystal is if you keep getting your prescriptions from the same physician that is trying to kill you, you're gonna be in bad shape.

P.S. Latest news U.S. Payrolls show an additional 159,000 jobs lost last month. This is the ninth month in a row, and your silience will ensure their will be plenty more.
