No easy delivery for Jolie-Pitt baby photos

Courtney Hazlett
The Scoop

It’s probably safe to say that no twins on the planet have ever showed their faces in as dramatic a fashion as Vivienne and Knox Jolie-Pitt. The twins, born on July 12 in France, made their American photo debut on People.com on Sunday, but it took weeks of negotiating and a very fat check before that moment finally came.

According to sources close to the photo exclusive, the negotiations were more difficult than those for previous Jolie-Pitt children.

“OK! (Magazine) was in a much better position than ever before to be in the game,” said the source. The source confirms that the $15 million range reported was not off base, figuring, “Price per twin, you’re looking at about $7 million each.”

Another source claims that reports the couple turned down a much higher offer from OK! and accepted less money from People are false. “That’s a lie. Negotiating ended and People won. There was no $20 million offer.”

While People has the North American rights to the twins' photos, Hello magazine was part of the deal, and its cover calls the photos a “world exclusive.” According to the Associated Press, the money received by the actors is being donated to a foundation created by Pitt and Jolie that largely focuses on helping children worldwide.

Any celebrity baby-photo deal has strings attached, and this case is no different. “There wasn’t going to be any big sit-down with the entire family for this one,” says the source. “There were going to be quotes given for use, but no true interview.” When it's pointed out that the People.com text does in fact read like an interview, the source says, “Things can always change at the last minute.”

Reportedly, one condition of the photo deal was that the victorious magazine would have to agree to no longer refer to Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie as “Brangelina.”

“It’s funny to think they actually took a cue from Jennifer Lopez, who was insisting on (not being called J.Lo),” says the source. “Stranger things have happened.”

These 2 do-gooders need to stop with the adoptions. All they're doing is assemblying bunch of rag-tag children who are going to grow up in an artificial family in an unstable environment where sibling rivalry will be rampant and where all of the money in the world will not guarantee that they all live happily ever after.

Awww Cynique...... Dont you think its at least a bit warm and fuzzy that they are creating this multicultural home???

The only think that I find not cool is when I see Zahara out in public with her hair looking crazy. I mean if you are going to adopt a black child, especially a girl at least have a black girlfriend in your life to guide you on important issues like how to care for black hair.

I got some old baby pictures, ass out and everythang. I wonder what I can get for them.

Cyn-Cyn, that's a bit strong.

Am riding with Hot Chocolate (Mochascafe) on this one. I know of another white couple that adopted a black child. I actually asked them (in a polite way) if they've had any problems with the childs hair. They looked pleased that I'd asked. The conversation continued and everythang is good.

It is my understanding that we are allowed to disagree about things, aren't we? Especially the frivolity of the pop culture scene. I repeat my entreaty for Brangelina to quit with the adoption thing. They are the type of people who psychologists refer to as "gatherers"; they look upon children as objects to collect.

And their adopted kids bring to mind a brood of aliens from another planet. They are never smiling in pictures, but always have perplexed or scowling facial expression, especially that Zahara creature.

Yes, I said it. And yes, I mean it. End of subject.

Cyn-Cyn, you are some mean! I just saw the Wizard Of Oz and I swear I saw you flying around :-).

Well Chocolate Mint, they knew there was something wrong and told me they didn't know how to ask for help. They didn't know if there were people like Cynique..opps..I mean people that didn't approve of the situation so they struggled with what to do. There were two kids, a girl and a boy. Very happy kids, yet with nappy knoted hair. It was clean but of course the more their parents wash it the dryer it got. Them poor babies must have been catching hell with that comb. Actually it looked as if they had given up on the comb and tried brushing, so you can picture the look.

Anyway, I had my children with me and they played together like ol'boy had the freshest bald fade in the world. And it was so cute, my daughter's motherly instincts kicked in and she was doing her best momma act with the girl's hair. Her parents???? looked a little embarrassed but we worked it out. We talked about "our" special needs and products. I asked if it was okay for me to drop by and take the kid to my little barber shop and that my wife would take the girl with her. They trusted us and were very grateful. I wanted to take the kid with me without his parents so that he wouldn't play into their fears. Then the next time he would feel comfortable and they too would feel at ease. Now you know black barber shops can be a great place to grow-up and learn a little something. It was good for the whole family.

I knew the importance the cultural exchange could bring to the family. I moved out of my neighborhood when my children were young but I coached little league back in my hood so that my son and daughter would not get lost in the shuffle, my son joined me and played there. My daughter ran track with the neighborhood summer team where she learned all her cussing and dancing skills *LOL*.

So Ms. Chocolate, there you have it. Thanks for taking me back to some great memories!

Carey

And you're a cucumber head *smile*.

Must we continue, ain't there some important issues you wish to address. Get out of my yard and take that broom with you.

Go talk to one of the women. Yeah, just skip over my silly mess and talk with Kitty, Tonya, Yvette or Chocolate Coffee. Am sure Ms. Crystal will even talk that thang with you. Give Nels a holla or Ntsf. Heck, Ms Little could use some schoolin', fly her way and say hey.

Rondall wants to get on the front page, go put those venumous lips in his ear.

I can't believe you called me all those names, am hurt. I still love you :-).

Just get out of my kitchen and take those crusty fingernails OUT of my Kool-Aid.

And you're a sausage head.

Are we done? I see Kitty is in town, don't you have some girly issues to talk about. Yeah, top 20 studs or something? I still think Ntsf and Rondall should have been on the list. I don't know why Sisgal and that Womon left creamy smooth polite and just a darling of a fellow, Troy off the list. Am still mad about that mess.

Come on Cyn-Cyn, you love me and you know it. Can a brotha get the digits :-).

I don't care what snappy insult name callin' post you come back with. I am done with you.

I won't do it, no no, a thousand times NO, I'd rather die than say yes!

Well, I guess everyone has a different spin on this subject and these two Hollywood characters. Interesting and provocative counter points could be served up. But when the dust settles, I could care less what their motives are. Anyone who is willing to adopt children and whisk them away from a destined life of abject poverty, no education, no medical attention and numerous other hostile possibilities -I'm for it.

I've always shaken my head in confusion and at times disgust, at people who sneer and reject the idea of cross scio-economic/racial/cultural adoptions. Opting for the satisfaction that the child should stay were it is ( poverty and a guaranteed abysmal life) vice being adopted by parents who can give them things they would otherwise never experience. Of course this is an explosive subject with many opinions and beliefs being given by supporters and haters but I always look at the ultimate dilemma: Leave the child in it's promised inescapable impoverished life or offer it a different life that includes a family, proper food, health care and a chance at a life it will never have access to. The alternative that will benefit the child the most seems like an obvious one to me......*Shrugs*......

Recommend seeing the movie "Gone Baby Gone". Reflects the intricacies of this very subject.

NTFS, in the case of Brangelina, I am unimpressed with the idea of plucking children from their natural environments and piecing them together as a unit, subjecting them to a gypsy-like existence even as they wallow in the lap of luxury, all under the guise of filling the needs of somebody other than their parents.

Adoption is risky business. Even under ideal circumstance. And you can make life easier for needy children without adopting them.

Angelina changed one child's name to "Pax" in keeping with her thing about "x"s and this kid is still reluctant to learn English and has yet to fully relate to his new family.

I'm inclinded to believe that there will be a schism between Brad and Angelina's natural children and their adoptive ones.

Last, but not least, who cares?

OHHHHHHH, so now I am a flannel mouth-black Maytag Salesman that sells refrigerators with faulty doors, while snitching on A_womon, fakin' the funk, trying to be busy in everyones body.

You're so mean!

And you're collard greens.

See, I've always said that if I had NTSF's writng skills I'd be a bad man but since I do not I will simply say he said everything I couldn't. The boy is tough. I agree with him. How could anyone with an ounce of good sense and compassion for a needy child NOT agree....well.

I loved the movie "Gone Baby Gone. Big time issues in that one. Great suspense, I can't say I figured it out before the ending. Nope, it had me to the end. Affecks brother did a great job. All the actors came with it. Mr. Freeman (not a great fan) did his small part in his usual manner, DULL. I just have never jumped on his train. I love good black actors and he is not near my top. Jeffery Wright, Denzel, Terrence Howard, Jamie Fox, Forrest, ect. Morgan did his best thang driving the old white women around and doing his best shuffle thang. See, driving Ms. white women ain't only about some car. Morgan better check himself before he wrecks himself.

But Cyn-Cyn, I bet you thought I was going to let sleepin' dog ...... Nope not going to go there *smile*. Ain't going to do the name callin' thang. You can't make me, YOU CAN'T MAKE ME!

Sensing a need for some levity in this thread--and hyped up from too many days and nights in the Magic Kingdom--Ferocious Kitty offers one blogger's irreverent take on the matter

Obvious Disclaimer: This is by no means an endorsement of the idea that adopted families, transracial or otherwise, are not "real" families. Why, some of Ferocious Kitty's favorite families are adoptive families, transracial and otherwise.

Thanks, FK, for accomodating my satire fix. Those links you provided inspired my best wicked laughter.

Don't fret, Yvette. The fan mags snubbed Usher, too. And all the other parents of recent newborns were miffed because their baby pics didn't command as much as Brangelina's so they came up with excuses to turn them down...

Ms. Sailor

Excuse Me!

Who is this YALL you are talking about? AND, "worship" who??- and- "what"? What are YOU talking about?

I think you got your thang all messed up. That's quite a position you've taken and should/need to explain yourself. Now mind you, if you wish to give a little respect in your post it will be appreciated BUT if you come up in here with some nonsense, throwing a foul blanket over all simply because they've made a commit on the issue then you might get what you ask for.

Again, I've read the posts and nothing speaks to worship. You've obviously been here before. You've posted almost 2000 times but that doesn't speak to the clearity and substance of your stuff. Soooooo, come on, do what you do and lets get this thang poppin!

Understood. I would not argue against some of the valid points you have made Ms. Cynique. But the bottom line is this: When weighing the worthy considerations and points you have made for not adopting them vice adopting them -will the children have a better life than if they were left alone? As you have suggested, there are a number of issues and concerns that do have merit. But when you consider the long term lifestyle that is offered to these children vice leaving them to labor in impoverished obscurity and oblivion, I think the choice is obvious.......IMO.

I am not passionate about this adoption issue, NTFS. It just occurs to me that kids of celebrities can be dyfunctional on their own witout having the additional burden of growing up and, in the midst of drug-induced boredom, start to wonder about their real parents.

Of course anything is preferable to ending up a nutcase like Serenasailor who is still out stumbling around out there in left field.

True. But I don't think this is the standard for children who are adopted by well to do families. As I've previously stated, I think you make some valid points, but again, when you look at the overall big picture, I feel the children are better off vice being left in their inescapable poverty and lack of opportunity.

Wow, I just checked back in and Lord Have Mercy what a discussion came out of this!

I guess the think that I admire about Brad and Angelina is that knowing that they are capable of having their own, they still open their home to additional children. Now as I said before, I am not with having children or adopting children without understanding the culture ie. Zahara walking around with crazy hair, but it just kind of makes me cringe because you have all of these white people coming in and so called "saving" our children.... I dont know if any movie has irritated me as much as Saving Isaiah....

Then I look at author events that I do with Sudanese Authors and in the crowd again.... mostly white people....

Personally, I plan to adopt a child from any African or Caribbean orphanage I can find when I am ready. I have a daughter but honestly I am tired of watching the "great white hope" doing what we can do for our own. I am not talking the Madonna types who adopt children that already have parents, but what about the babies that dont have any parents, black children in poor developing countries who can benefit from even the fraction that we could offer them. I dont know, I am pretty conflicted, but I think that rather than all of these so called stars that are adopting our children because it is fashionable (even though they are providing good homes.. at least financially) but I feel like I have some sort of responsibility to open my home.

Maybe I am feeling especially globally responsible because as I type this I am watching the opening ceremonies of the Olympics, (I swear Malawi is walking by right now, how ironic)

Anyways, my little two cents.....

Also, I heard someone say, we as black people need to start looking at Africa the way Jews around the world look at Israel... We need to take care of our own.
