I will surprise a lot of people--

I would not have done this. I would have declined to sing the National Anthem or sung it.

I wouldn't have done this unless I planned to start a fight.

My best friend told me about this yesterday. She f$%ked up big time. Very poor decision. I have no idea what the sista gurl was thinking......

Jazz singer Rene Marie decided not to perform "The Star Spangled Banner" at a Denver civic event, and instead sang "Lift Ev'ry Voice and Sing," known as the black national anthem. And that decision has been met with widespread scorn.

Marie explains the fallout and why she doesn't regret her decision.

She sang the words to "Lift Every Voice and Sing" to the tune of "The Star Spangled Banner".

More and more people are doing controversial things to draw attention themselves, ala Father Phleger.
