I have an article in the current (summer) issue of B*tch magazine (they leave the "i" in but Troy won't let me ;-). The article is about why black women don't tend to write "momoirs" (mommy memoirs).

If you're not familiar with B*tch, the mag bills itself as the "feminist response to pop culture". In addition to my piece, which I'm quite proud of, you'll also find in this issue an article by a woman who finds feminist inspiration from the Bible, and a piece which discusses "why Prince is the biggest male feminist rock star of the last 25 years...kinda."

I don't know if you can find the mag at B&N and the like; I've seen it at my local food co-op. Maybe Whole Foods carries it too.

B*tch has a website, but they haven't uploaded stuff from the current issue yet.

Toot-toot!

Sounds interesting, congratulations!

Hummm, gotta read that one. Right now I'm a skeptic.

"why Prince is the biggest male feminist rock star of the last 25 years...kinda."

Looking forward to that one! (In addition to your contribution, of course!) Remember our 32 Days of Black History Month blogathon? When I did those Prince playlists, that was the first time it occurred to me how so many of the covers he has done have been by female singer/songwriters. But how we get from something like that to "feminism"--well, I guess I'll just hafta read the piece.

Thanks, Tonya and Yvette. Both those articles jumped out at me immediately. The whole issue is chock full of good stuff. There's also a piece on the stigma of infertility and whether the advent of assisted reproductive technology has lessened or added to it. A little light bedtime reading. ;-)
