Having visited this site for a number of years. I've cried and shared the passing of my wife. I've joked and laughed and picked fights with many. I've sat in on the Wednesday's chat night with the author of the month. This site has been instrumental in getting me through some tough times. I could always come here and find someone that would not judge and simply say "Carey, welcome back". Also I've noticed that visitors/postees have displayed very impressive minds and today I need your help.

I have a few questions and concerns and wondered how I could include them in this forum. I noticed that this board is titled Culture, Race & Economy so I have an "economy" question.....well....anyway, introduction complete, here it it goes.

I've been working on a project, a concept that could be called an invention. Now that I am ready to move forward I am concerned about confidentiality and protection. I've gone to the typical inventors web sites yet most are pitching their ability to move your idea.

Here are my concerns and questions:

Of course most say it's imperative to patent your idea. That suggestion is obviuosly true, however even in the patent process one has to take his idea to someone that is a professional in that field.

Let me step back, let's say a concept involves other components that are not "new", yet your inventions/concept utilizes various devices to accomplish a particular task. Additionally, one or two of the components have to be somewhat modified to complete your plans, how does this play into the formation of a patent.

Trust is generally a big issue and although one could be encouraged to sign a confidentially statement it does not preclude them from running off with your plan and giving the idea to someone else as they benefit from the wings. Even if said individuals wanted to bit the bullet of future litagations one is burdened with that ugly and costly road.

I am not overly knowledgable in electronics nor have a background in engineering yet my concept involves both. Most assuredly there are young guns and old pistols that would love to come aboard and develope my idea. Yet again, how do I approach individuals and be assured that they will not use my concept for personal gain.

Please help me! I believe you can understand my concerns. I feel there may even be lurkers that do not wish to post on the board and if that is true and you would like to share your thoughts and advise I'd really like to hear from you. I am big on confidentuality, if your desire is that I not devulge or conversation, I will not.

Money is usually an issue; development and research can be a drain yet again if you told someone that there was gold beneath their home and you just needed a little "seed" money to get at it, they would either give you the money or get the gold themselves. So how do you ask for the money without showing your hold card? When do you bring "backers" into the process and at what cost?

No promises but I think the rewards of you sharing with me will be more than appreciated.

This is a follow-up to my above dilemma.

It is true that many corporations use fresh talent within their ranks with great rewards for both. There are many wise and smart individuals graduating with degrees in hand with no clue of what to do with them.....all dressed up and no where to go.

If I wanted to tap into that "market" of talent in the engineering/electronics field, how could I do that and what schools would you suggest I visit. My initual concept is not that complicated yet looking into the future I can visualize added concerns. Of course lawyers are always going to be needed, again, my question is who, what when and where do I approach this talented group of individuals that may be looking for a chance to be an intregal part of a new viable dream.

I am not independently wealthy but I do have time and resources to move around. I just want to make sure I am using my assets in the most prudent fashion.

Help me, who knows, one day we may be holding hands on Opray. She might ask where did this all start and I'd proudly say "I had an idea and I asked for advise from my friends and associates at Thumper's Corner and I've brought a few of them along with me". I might say, "this is Sese, she is a retired teacher that befriended me while we both were visiting Thumper's Corner" and "this is Yvette, I loved her writing skills and insight and asked her if she could help". Of course I'd introduce Troy and drag out all his degrees and accomplishment and tell how he's been instumental as a technical advisor and the father of the site". Yes, Cynique would be there because she has been here holding down the fort for so long. Most need a spokesperson and because Tonya likes to "talk" a lot she might fit that bill just fine. Now you know Ol'Chris would be my guy, he's had my back for awhile and I'd have his when he would sneak off and put something in that pipe of his *lol*.....hush....

Although I joke, I am nevertheless serious about this.....but wait.....I think it's important to have a mixture of cultures in any group so A_womon and Crystal and the brave lurkers would be invited :-) :-(.

Again, humor is my base but I can be deadly serious about a project and get the job done.

If and when you have time think about sharing you ideas with me.
