This is a very interesting couple. Does she campaign with and for Arnold? This is a very interesting move for her to make being that her own husband is in the limelight as well for who he will endorse. You cannot tell me that Arnold is not pissed!
LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- California first lady Maria Shriver on Sunday endorsed Sen. Barack Obama for the Democratic nomination for president, becoming the latest member of the Kennedy clan to line up behind the senator from Illinois.
Shriver, the wife of California Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, told supporters at an Obama rally in Los Angeles that the state was "at the epicenter of change." California's primary is the largest of about two dozen contests scheduled for this week's Super Tuesday contest.
"I would ask you to go out, to follow your heart, to be proud that you're doing that, and remember that so goes California, so goes the nation," she said.
Shriver is the niece of Massachusetts Sen. Edward Kennedy and President Kennedy. Both his daughter, Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg, and the Massachusetts senator have endorsed Obama in the past week. During Sunday's event, Schlossberg appeared with Shriver, Obama's wife, Michelle, and talk-show host Oprah Winfrey.
"I'm proud to be standing here not just with these women, but with all of you -- different races, different age groups I'm sure, Democrats and independents alike -- because you believe," she said. "You believe in each and every one of yourselves, most importantly. And you believe that you have found someone who believes in you."
Members of the Kennedy clan are split in the race between Obama and Hillary Clinton, the New York senator and former first lady who leads published polls in California.
Former Maryland Lt. Gov. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, the daughter of Robert Kennedy, and her brother Bobby and sister Kerry are backing Clinton

She's got a mind of her own. She shouldn't have to endorse someone she wouldn't vote for just based on who her husband is endorsing. |

True, but it must be awkward at the dinner table. Did she endorse anyone in 2004?, She typically lays pretty low. Not to say that she cannot have a mind of her own, absolutely! But this isnt the typical average "Im a Democrat and my husband is a Republican" kind of couple. They are extremely high profile, with not only a difference opinion in political views, but also the WIFE of a political figure with differing views. All Im saying is that Dinners and Breakfasts must be a little tense. Personally, I think its great!
Its takes alot of guts to do what she is doing, Im sure her husbands "peeps" are probably wondering why he cant keep his wife "in line"

LOL He came to the US with no political affiliation at all and married someone in one of the most famous Democrat families in the entire country over the last 50 years and had the nerve to become an active running member of the opposite party. Maybe SHE should be embarrassed. |

My first insult, I actually feel like I have been christened. However, I am not someone who's used to being "kept in line", at least I dont think so....
But as you say, she is an ACTIVE running member of the opposite party and then she endorses OBAMA. Im just confused, doesnt she campaign with her husband, how does that work? Should we believe her or did she just want to be on stage with Oprah? I dont know, American Politics are really fascinating, nothing like boring old Canadian politics. I love it! |

LOL....that's not an insult and I really didn't mean it as such. I just found that an interesting thing to say for someone who (I'm assuming, perhaps incorrectly) is neither Mormon, Muslim, or Mennonite.
I'm sure SHE'S democrat, her husband is definitely republican. People always campaign with and vote for their spouse regardless of party affiliation.
There are some who always vote for one party, no matter who the candidate is. And then there are those who vote just for who they like, no matter the party; this election it may be republican, next election democrat. There are no rules that say a republican can't vote democrat or vice versa. I think who who run "independent" are hoping to pull in voters from each side without showing any loyalty to either party.

Besides, Arnold seems to like strong women. Maria seems to be strong (and remember he dated Grace Jones). They also seem to get along well. I'm willing to bet that he drove her to the rally or even waited (in hiding) for her. |
