Hello All,

Check out this story about the US postal service releasing US stamps featuring Black cinema from the 20s and 30s. Now, yawl know this is right up my ol' grayhead's alley. So, here's the link: http://www.usatoday.com/life/people/2008-07-15-black-cinema-stamps_N.htm

Hello Thump

Thanks for pulling my coat. I think I might just grab a few. I am more interested in how I can get my hands on a few of the posters.

Isn't interesting how some wish to imply that raising our awareness is some sort of separatist act. I usually don't comment on those sites but you know I was burning with desire. I can only assume those who do voice their disatisfaction at uncovering our history have a deep rooted and maybe unconscious need to remain in history the way it is frequently written (hidden).

I didn't know about MGM's Oscar Nod.

Now tell me, yeah, it was right up my alley But was it because I like film or that I am old :-)?

Hello All,

Carey: You wrote: "Now tell me, yeah, it was right up my alley But was it because I like film or that I am old ?"

BOTH! *LOL* And you're the only person I know that saw the movies when they first hit the theatres1

I know how you love movies, as much if not more than I do. I was just calling your attention, as well as others, to them. I would love to get a few of those posters myself! I know you can get them from some post office. I'm going to check and see if I can get them on-line.

As far as some of us not happy at uncovering our history, frankly, in my opinion, they're stupid and ashamed of being black. They have that self hatred thing going and probably need to put themselves get themselves a gun, jump off of a bridge, or OD and put themselves out of their own misery. Hating oneself must be the heaviest and stupidest load one can carry. Me, myself, I love being black. I realized years ago though that being black is not an easy win, and you have to be strong to wear it, especially in the US of A. It's not for everybody. Being black is not for the weak-minded or the weak-hearted. Now those who can't take it, I've come to the conclusion that if suicide is not an option they are willing to take, its probably best that they go ahead and breed themselves out of black gene pool.

Hello Thump

Well Thump, what can I say, you got me. I did run out and grab a few sets. On the backs of each stamp there is more details about the film. Some very interesting stuff. For instance the film Hallelujah, it was filmed primarily in Arkansas and Tennessee. The stamp for Caldonia has brilliant colors. I am not going to tell you all the neat stuff on the backs of the rest of them **Turning my back and hiding them in a safe place**. I am still shocked at hearing the director King Vidor was nominated for Best Director, can you believe that "1929"! I think the Jewish influence in film might have something to do with that?

Hey, while we are talking film, I might as well ask you a music question. I know your taste in music. What do you think of the new artist Ledisi (I think I am spelling it right)? I am killing her tonight. Yes sir, can't hit a note but it's me and her.

I would have loved to have been able to be at the festival in Newark. I might have attended had I known about it.
