Hello All,

Ya know what? I'm ready for an online chat with somebody (author). We haven't done that in a long time. And from looking around at the landscape, *eyebrow raised* its needed. So, since I'm done being ed-ju-ma-cated, I ain't got nothing but time. So, I'm going to give you all the chance to pick the first one. Hit me.

Hello Thump

Although we all may have a favorite book I believe it's important to pick a book that lends itself to a discussion via this medium. Off the top of my head I would lean toward a book of short stories. Then everyone could have a story in which they liked.

As I mentioned in another thread, I always felt as if I was two steps behind everyone else. I'd have a dictionary in one hand, one toe and my index finger on the keyboard, slow to say the least.

It was funny how sometimes we would assume that the author remembered everything about their book. For instance one might ask them a question about a certain page, expecting the author to instantly respond to that reference.

I do think this is a perfect oppurtunity for lurkers. They can sit in and be part of the thang and jump in every so often. The discussions are basically absent of some of the ...ahhh, heckling that may occur in the open forum.

I don't know, I am trying to think of an author that we wouldn't fawn over, yet one that would bring a sense of excitement to the table.

I do believe it would be a nice evening. There's a group of interesting and skilled people that visit this board. We may get on each others last nerve but just like a family picnic, we will probably lay down our differences and enjoy the meal. If someone like Chris brings his Olde English, we don't have to worry about him stumbling around and knocking over the table.

Poetry would be great, but I don't know if many like reading it. The difference of opinions would absolutely set the place on fire. Yeah, a book of poetry....naw...YEAH...naw....YEAH. I don't have any money so I think it should be a book that could be borrowed from the library.

I would like to hear what many others think. Even if they couldn't attend I would like to hear their opinions.

I suggested Sonia Sanchez for a number of reasons and strong poetry being only one of them. Although Thumper may think of me being a smart azz for suggesting his auntie, I actually think she would be fascinating to chat with because her political activity. I have seen her speak in person and her opinions are strong and relevant.

Plus she has written plays and children's books in the past.

Just my two cents...love ya Thumper.

I felt you Rondall. I didn't want to call you out and ask you why you thought she would be great but you again did a great job.

Now, so that the night remains a discussion and not a "oouuu Sonia, I loved this book and that book".... you know that...ahhh....well, you know. Sooo, what work of hers would you think would fit the night.....book chat night? Do you know the setup? Thumper usually lets the board pick a book (one of those Mugabee type elections *wink*) and then he gives everyone a chance to read the book, generally about a month. Then we come prepared to have a qualified opinion about the book.

I could be wrong and Thump is the guy.

Now that you've thrown him under the bus I think you may need to send him some flowers or something before he listens to anything yo "smart azz" has to offer *LOL*.

Homegirls and Handgrenades: recently reprinted but still just as poignant, perhaps now even more so. Regardless of your political affiliation, we are no longer on the cusp of history. We have recently made it and we will inevitably change the course of our history.

I would love hear Sonia's take on this. Her expression of truth is unique and usually comes in a confluence of prose. She has served as a (watchman) for our people for so long, it would be an experience to hear her translate the significance of these recent and future events.

And I still owe Thumper a rib dinner...so now I need to hook him up with dessert too.

Thump

I can't wait for others to add to the suggestions but whatever it be, I can't wait. See, you talk soooo good. If one didn't KNOW better they might think you were god. But if one is to believe in the concept of God then one must believe that there is a devil *eyebrow raised*.

You know I ain't forgot *lol*.

Now look Thump, don't be pickin one of those books that YOU can read in two days that others might...MIGHT finish in a couple of weeks. Everyone doesn't read like an addicted hype.

O boy, let me practice my typing, I can't wait.
