Another one I’ve been sleep on! I’m really enjoying this book. Fast paced but not a fast read, full characters you can recognize from life and the media with some obvious caricatures, funny but sobering, deep but readable and perfect for the soul searching some folks may be going through during this election season.

I’ll be reading it again cause I’ve missed some stuff but don’t want to take the time to go back right now – I want to know what will happen!

I don’t remember how I came across this title but I know it was from somewhere on this site so: THANKS to whomever!

OTOH - I did not get very far with Casanegra before putting it down. I think I’ve spent too much time on the fringes of Hollywood and the rap music business that I just don’t care about these folks and don’t want to read about their stupid antics.

In regard to Casanegra, your reaction was pretty much the same as the members of my book club, Crystal. They were all disappointed that Tannarive went in this direction in her collaboration. They were expecting something along the lines of her other books.
I liked the book because it was well-written and a good cross-section between the street lit and mystery genres.

Yeah, it's well written but I was expecting something different too. My first reaction was EJD meets Walter Mosley.

Am I to assume that a know-it-all like you, chrishayden, is not aware that there are book clubs throughout the country, usually made up of women who meet regularly to discuss whatever selection they have voted on to critique???

(I know about that--I am just rather surprised--that is shocked--that is flabbergasted--that THIS is not the only book discussion group in your life.

Who are these people? Are they safe and clean? Would we approve? Does Troy know?

You should've. Your stammers are more coherent than you statements.

LOL. Cynique, seems Chris is jealous of you "cheating" on us with another forum. In your defense, you never said you were a one-forum woman. But I admit, myself, to feeling a little cold by your admission of alternative and multiple fidelities. If you had to choose, you'd choose us, right? Right? :-)

Re: Casanegra: I liked it a lot. But I'll be less positive about the book if it does not result in a movie version. To me, that was one of the main appeals--that the book was really whetting the appetite for a slick new movie franchise.

I saw a woman in Times Square yesterday reading LAST DREAM BEFORE DAWN, and told her about D.V.'s other books (we're both with Strebor.) He is an incredibly under-appreciated writer. Check out his book GOD IN THE IMAGE OF A WOMAN. Awesome piece of writing.

Well, Yvette, from time to time I have to counteract those who are contemptible of my omnipresence on this board, wondering why I don't "get a life!"

LOL @ Cynique.

(Tho I note you did not answer my question, you two-timer you!)

BTW, I am adding these books to my list as well. Thanks for the tip, Crystal and Wfcooper!

If I had to choose between the forums I participate in, Yvette, yes I would select this site because I can say anything I want and not have to worry about physical retaliation.
