If you sell your used books (not including textbooks), what method do you find most effective for moving them and getting top dollar? Over ten years ago, I used to walk into bookstores that sell used books and make pretty good money on my hardcover books. Now with Ebay, Amazon, etc, I wonder if that method is still effective.

I've never sold used books, but I would suggest doing what publishers do with remaining inventory when a book is deemed out of print. They first try selling the books to the author at cost. That way, at least they break even; get back what they paid in printing. If the author is uninterested, the books are usually sold to clearing houses at slightly above cost; often as high as 90% off the list price. Again, the publisher makes little to no profit, but they don't lose any money either.

Interesting. I wouldn't buy back copies of my own novel. Plus the whole shipping and handling thing might complicate it. We have a place here in Cleveland called Half Price Books that buys used books. I might try there. Hope I don't get college flashblacks when they used to offer me three bucks for a book I paid a hundred dollars for.

I see a lot of folks selling used books at Bn.com, Ebay, and Amazon.com. I wonder if it's worth the effort, especially on paperbacks.

Hi Emanuel. I sell books to other readers, in beauty shops, online and Half Price books. Half Price will rob you so try to sell it yourself first.
