Don Imus: I Ain't Forgivin' and Forgettin':

The Dec 3rd "Moment of Silence"

Min. Paul Scott

Some dude named Alexander Pope once said "to err is
human but to forgive, divine."

Whatever, homie.

I bet ol' Alex was the kid who got his lunch money
taken everyday at school.

For the record, I, vehemently, oppose Don Imus's 12/3
return to radio. Just because one Civil Rights leader
may have given Imus his blessing does not mean that
he's getting a pass from the other 38,699,999 black
folks in this country.

After all the ruckus that jumped off last April, I
suppose that we are just gonna let him waltz in and
sit his racist behind in that big cushy chair behind
the microphone...

(Scratch that)

In order to lure Imus to WABC, along with the mega
bucks they are paying him, they probably had to throw
in a golden throne.

And we're just to suppose to accept that without a
mumblin' word?

Seems like folks think that after a nine month, 20
million dollar paid vacation courtesy of his old
employer, CBS, Imus has somehow paid his debt to
society for the "nappy headed ho" comment, last April.
Yeah, I know that Imus was real apologetic and even
submitted to an hour long interrogation on Rev. Al
Sharpton's radio show. Seems like he's done everything
but hire a black gospel choir, go on a nationwide tour
of black mega churches and sing "Swing Low, Sweet
Chariot."

Now, I know that some of ya'll are thinking how noble
it is that he is using his big comeback to raise money
for a children's charity. Well drug dealin' Tyrone
gave out free turkey's last Thanksgiving, does that
excuse his behavior?

These people don't think that black folks know the
difference between a genuine goodwill gesture and a
cheap public relations trick.

To these PR people, the black community is an easy
sell. After all, we have let marketing firms convince
us that sneakers that cost 10 dollars to make are
worth $200 dollars. And that thousand dollar gold
teeth and spinnin' wheels on a 1988 Honda, somehow
make you a better human being.

I can see Imus's handlers back doing the days of
slavery squashing a slave rebellion:

"Don, babe...Just give them an extra chicken wing and
a slice of watermelon. Trust me. I know these
people..."

We must not forget that the conversation on race in
the aftermath of the Imus fiasco which should have
been about white male bigotry and the disrespect of
black women quickly turned into a conversation about
Hip Hop, the "N" word and saggin' pants.

So, if the NAACP and the other Civil Rights groups
that buried the "N" word last July don't fight tooth
and nail against the Imus comeback, they should go to
the grave yard, dig up Mr. "N" word and give him a
public apology. And if the black bloggers don't speak
out, they need to nominate BET's highly internet
protested show "Hot Ghetto Mess" for an Emmy Award and
send host, Charley Murphy a thank you note.

Fair is Fair.

But then again when was the race issue ever fair?

Is it fair that although many people are bringing up
the "Freedom of Speech" issue, many black entertainers
have been persecuted for much less? I don't remember
rappers such as Sister Souljah and Professor Griff
being rewarded with million dollar record deals after
they made comments that some folks found offensive.
Nor, do I remember any support groups being formed for
the then "King of Pop," Michael Jackson, when he was
forced to remove "They Don't Care About Us" from his
1995 HIStory CD. As the old saying goes, when it
happens to someone else, it's a comedy but when it
happens to you, it's a tragedy.

So should WABC and its parent company be held
accountable for hiring Don Imus when he should still
be in exile on his ranch in New Mexico?

You're darn right!

WABC hiring Imus is like a renegade employee crossing
the picket line when you have been protesting out in
the cold and rain for two weeks. Unless, you whop the
traitor upside the head with a picket sign, you can
rest assured that there will be a long line of scabs
coming behind him.

So we must stand our ground.

On December 3rd we need to have a 4 hour "moment of
silence" from 6AM to 10AM and turn off all stations
and programs owned by Citadel Broadcasting and ABC
Radio Networks.

http://abcradionetworks.com/article.asp?id=341544

While this company is mostly known for conservative
talk shows, it also depends on African American
audiences to support its "multi-cultural" programming.

Sometimes it takes great sacrifices to make change.
Sometimes it takes a large 10,000 man demonstration to
make a point. Sometimes you have to get on a bus and
travel 12 hours to a protest. But sometimes you can
make a change by doing something as simple as turning
off your radio.

The 12/3 "Moment of Silence" Protest Against Don
Imus's Return to Radio .

The Problem

Don Imus has been hired by New York Radio station
WABC which is owned by Citadel/ABC Radio Networks. His
show is scheduled to debut on Monday, December 3rd at
6AM EST. If we don't speak out, we give permission to
other's to continue to disrespect us.

The History

Last April 4 on his WFAN/CBS owned program that was
also carried on MSNBC, Don Imus referred to the
Rutgers Women's Basketball team as "nappy headed
ho's:'

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/04/12/national/main2675273.shtml

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ui1jPNDWArM&feature=related

He was later suspended, then fired by both CBS and
MSNBC due to public pressure.

Although the media chose to make it totally Rev. Al
Sharpton's issue, the story was first brought to
public attention by the National Association of Black
Journalists and by black activists across the country
who were outraged.

Within a week, the conversation about Don Imus quickly
shifted to a 90 day discussion about negativity in Hip
Hop.

http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1557094/20070413/id_0.jhtml

The various news channels had a field day discussing
the "evils" of Hip Hop.

http://odeo.com/audio/11156593/view
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Cv0NCaKB7A

This distraction easily allowed the groundwork to be
done to arrange the return of Don Imus to radio and
also gave others who have made racially offensive
statements a convenient scapegoat.

What should be done:

We are calling for a four hour "Moment of Silence"
Protest on Monday December 3rd from 6AM-10AM EST where
we are asking that people turn off all programming
owned by Citadel and ABC Radio Networks

http://nowarningshotsfired.blogspot.com/2007/11/don-imus-i-aint-forgivin-and-for gettin.html

The protest is not just about Imus but the disrespect
that black people receive via talk radio.

While we are observing the moment of silence we will
take that time to send emails and make phone calls
informing people about the protest against Imus and
also use it as an opportunity to give people a
political education about the historical disrespect of
black people by the media, especially black women in
the context of global white supremacy and
institutionalized racism.

The Next Step:

If Imus is still on the air at 10:01 AM Dec 3 we will
launch the "No Ho's This Holiday" Boycott of WABC,
Citadel Broadcasting, ABC Radio Networks and all of
their sponsors.

http://abcradionetworks.com/article.asp?id=341544

What you can do right now:

Organize your family and friends to take part in the
protest and educate them about the seriousness of the
issue in a historical context.

Contact your local media and let them know that
activists across the country are staging a boycott of
Imus.

Those in the NY area, contact the NY press assignment
editors and newstip lines (NY Times, NY Daily News, NY
Post, etc) and tell them about the protest.

Starting 11/26 call into talk shows both local and
national and make them deal with the issue including:

Warren Ballentine (877-373-9766)
truthfighters@gmai.com and Sharptalk With Rev.
Sharpton (1-877-532-5797) Michael Baisden
(1-877-622-3269) forum website
(http://www.minglecity.com/forum/) and Tom Joyner
(800-JOYNER1)

Talking points:

Those against the protest will bring up the same four
points over and over again.

(Question) What about Freedom of Speech ?

(Answer) Freedom of Speech has never been for black
people. Remember when the Constitution was written, we
were only considered 3/5 human.

Research the attacks on Paul Robeson, Rev. Jesse
Jackson and Dr. Khallid Muhammad, who was condemned by
Congress. Educators such as Dr. Tony Martin and Dr.
Leonard Jeffries. Entertainers such as Professor
Griff (Public Enemy), Sister Souljah and Ice T (Cop
Killer). And athletes such as former Chicago Bull,
Craig Hodges. All of whom were exercising their
"Freedom of Speech." We must expose the hypocrisy.

(Question) Well, what about Hip Hop?

(Answer) There have been activists and organizations
who have been fighting against negativity in Hip Hop
for the last decade or more. A "very" short list would
include : Messianic Afrikan Nation, Project Islamic
Hope, IndustryEars.com, Turn Off Channel Zero,Turn Off
the Radio etc.
Also be very clear that Hip Hop is controlled by white
corporations, Universal, Interscope, Viacom, etc.

(Question) Why don't you black people deal with the
drugs and violence in your own community ?

(Answer) Have a list of organizations in your own
community that have been working to uplift our
community.

(Question) Well, haven't your own Civil Rights leaders
forgiven Imus and said that he has a right to make a
living ?

(Answer) There are 38.7 black people in this country
and we do not have just one leader who speaks for all
of us. Does white America just have one leader?
According to scholars like the late Dr. John Henrik
Clark, the idea of "one black leader" started back
with Booker T Washington, when white America saw the
need to have one person with whom they could negotiate
on behalf of all black people. Don Imus can live very
happily on his ranch in New Mexico raising goats with
that reported 20 million dollar settlement that he got
from CBS. The "Moment of Silence Protest" and the "No
Ho's for the Holidays Boycott" are movements of the
people, no one black "leader" started it so you can't
call on one black "leader" to call it off!

Lastly, please do not "SPAM" this email but send it to
as many interested people as you can.

Yawn......Negroes need to move on and get over it. Of all the dire and pressing issues facing black America, what is the point and purpose of laboring over names these same indignant Negroes use on a daily basis when discussing other blacks.

(Because he's a target and an easy one and when somebody bends over you give it to them up the arse

It's the American Way.

We can make Imus' life a living hell.

Puleeze. If Don Imus didn't still have a huge following he couldn't have made a come-back. He and his fans couldn't care less about black people tuning him out.

Look folks. Here's where you take a Negro to school.

Suppose everyday, the sidewalk is full of demonstrators. Suppose people start deluging his sponsors with calls saying they are not going to buy their products as long as they sponsor Imus (when is the last time Snapple ran a commercial on Limbaugh?)

Last but not least, suppose challenges are made to the FCC license when it comes up for renewal.

You have rolled over so long it doesn't hurt anymore.

How can an ignoramous like you take anybody to school, chrishayden?
What you "suppose" ain't gonna happen because of the logisitics required are more trouble than they're worth. This is 2007, not 1960 and Black people don't even know what local stations they listen to are owned by ABC and Citadel. It has already been proven that Imus is a clueless racist, why beat a dead dog to death. NTFS is right. Our energies can be better focusesd on something more important than Don Imus droning mindless blather into a microphone.

(The last I heard this is America and American citizens are free to do anything they want as long as they don't break any laws or disturb the peace and enjoyment of others.

So they can do what they want.

You just can't get out of that ole Plantation mentality, can you?

"Lawdy, Jeezuz! Don'tchall go botherin' Massa Imus he gone git me too!"

Dr King is rolling over in his grave.

You do your thing, and let other people do theirs.

Chriishayden: blubbers:
"The last I heard this is America and American citizens are free to do anything they want as long as they don't break any laws or disturb the peace and enjoyment of others."

And it's for this very reason that Don Imus can sit in front of a microphone and amuse his like-minded audiences, dumb-dumb.

MLK would be doing what most progressive people are doing: focusing on getting Obama elected instead of Imus fired. Puleeze.

(How would you know? You hated Dr. King and condemned him as a troublemaker when he was alive.

Now you shed crocodile tears because it is chic.

When are you going to get some moral fiber?

Has nothing I have tried to teach you taken root?

Where do you get the idea that I hated MLK when he was alive, you lying SOB?? You must really be desperate for a retort. Unlike you I am not a self-righteous prude and I liked and admired him and had no problem with him being down to earth enough to drink and smoke and womanize. He was a brilliant, courageous and, yes, witty man.
