"As long as you're hiding something they got something on you."

"Let's bring this thing out of the closet....put it down front."

"...and when I look around today, white dudes waking up in the morning hi-fiving 'You my n----, baby' I say--briliant--that's what it was all about. That fear will go away."

I agree with Dick Gregory on this point.

Sometimes when I hear Dick talk nowadays he sounds like a lunatic. He has these fantasticly wild stories.

I heard him on the radio the other day and he was talking about how the government has the ability to instantaneously transport huge amounts of matter, including people, great distances. He sited the Philadelphia experiment as an example of this ability.

He says the goverment now experimenting with transporting bombs; they would be detonated here but go off at the target -- even if it was 1,000 miles away.

Dick & Bill Cosby both have guts.

Bill can be doing anything he wants right about now, but he is trying to improve out plight. As is Gregory.

I will take your advise and get the book.

Sometimes when I hear Dick talk nowadays he sounds like a lunatic. He has these fantasticly wild stories.

(Dick has fasted near death too many times. Plus his experiences with government harrassment/surveillance/persecution have made him paranoid.

A few years ago Dick was down here in East St. Louis. Folks were demonstrating their decision not to allow Haitian Refugees in the country.

Katherine Dunham, who was living in ESTL then, has this tie with Haiti. She went on a hunger strike. She was 80-90. Lots of people got real upset.

This is Ms. Dunham, she's a national treasure, se is putting her life on the line. etc. This was a totally safe, officially approved demonstration.

The mayor of East St. Louis was there. State reps. Representatives of the County and the governor's office. Lawyers. Media People.

The kind of Negroes it is good to mix with on a black thang.

Dick was there. He was going to carry on the activities. Pull in bunches of people. Get arrested.

He disappeared. He reappeared a few days later with a fantastic story that checked out. One eveneing the feds grabbed him. Put him on a plane to Washington. He was supposed to be wanted on an outstanding warrant. He was released. Told to be in court a few days later.

When he went to court he was told that it was all a mistake. Free to go.

"Whose gonna get me back to ESTL--get it. Now you gotta get up some more plane fair. This was something you ain't counted on. He at the time was not making a lot of money and he was in the Dunham thang at his own expense.

"They did that to me to shut down the protests."

Without him around, not as many people came out. So it goes.

I heard him on the radio the other day and he was talking about how the government has the ability to instantaneously transport huge amounts of matter, including people, great distances. He sited the Philadelphia experiment as an example of this ability.

(Who know but that they didn' slip him some LSD or that he didn't take a bunch on purpose.

People did that back then. They usually talk all that flying saucer Roswell stuff. SF addicts. Prophets. He's a nutty prophet. He sees visions and shit. Really.

It don't mean that they are three, but he does)

He says the goverment now experimenting with transporting bombs; they would be detonated here but go off at the target -- even if it was 1,000 miles away.

(They are really trying to do this. They are into telekenesis, teleportation, telepathic and mind travel research. So were the Soviets. It's no secret.)

Dick & Bill Cosby both have guts.

(Dick don't beat up on poor people)

Bill can be doing anything he wants right about now, but he is trying to improve out plight. As is Gregory.

(Are you a welfare mother on crack or a high school drop out? What is he trying to do for you? Has he even dropped some dough on your site?

Has he even met face to face with them people-

He gave money to Spelman. Fine thing, but Spelman ain't on welfare or crack or stealing poundcake and he wrote if off on his taxes.

He's trying to get back and be Mr. Dad.

I wish him luck.

I hope he keeps his hands off young women.

I don't think Dick Gregory is crazy.
If so, than I'm right there with him.

Cosby makes some good points at times but he has always gotten on my nerves....even when I was very young. Especially then, he wasn't funny to me.
Like a Black Groucho Marx or something.

Chrishayden, Canary,

So you believe the US government has the ability to transport naval vessels hundreds of miles in the wink of an eye. OK.

Chris,

It takes guts to tell a truth that may hurt (like Cosby) or say thing that others may find fantastic (like Gregory) in front of a ton of people.

Chris this may come to a suprise to you but many of the people wearing saggin pants using the N-word in public or otherwise engaging in behavior that Cosby was blasting are not welfare mothers, on crack, high school drop outs of any combination of the three...

Indeed, many people of very modest menas (poor) are better examples of how to behave than some of the richest folks.

Quit perpertuating the lie that Cosby is the slamming poor or uneducated people.

Troy,

Have you seen the science programs on tv or read about the transporting experiments?
Still glitches but they are working on it!
my now x brother-in -law worked at Sandia labs in New Mexico. Those accelarator/sp machines? They are messing with some things that shouldn't be.

As for the naval vessel it appears that it was an experiment as it is being done now to make things like aircraft, ships invisible from eyes and detecting devices such as radar.
There's a lot that has been going on and going on today that is very much like scifi.
Odd isn't it..that scifi writers like Stanley Kubrick and others wrote of things..gadgets and times that seemed unreal back then? And we can read older stories that seemed even far more outlandish for the times.
Ever read Octavia E. Butler?...'Parable of the Sower' is one of my favorites. Could it happen?
Look at the world today...yes it can.
You are a skeptic..but that's good. I am too. but not closed minded neither.
Evidence to consider... and experience most of all.
I've seen lots of those 'UFO's' through out my life...and many with witnesses. Some very close...too close. And no..no drugs, booze....
I don't know who or what they are but they are real. Am I crazy? Perhaps.
One of my Aunties saw them too...when she was young and a teacher down in Mason. She'll never forget that experience.

As for Dick Gregory's sanity and lsd...he has been a vegan for decades and health conscious.
I was never a friend but spoke to him for long periods while I was a full time activist and he would be one of our speakers along with the music performers, etc.
He certainly is not a crazy man!

Oh...here is what seems to me to be an unbiased article on that Philadelphia Experiment.
Too long to paste here.

Air Force report calls for $7.5M to study psychic teleportation
By Dan Vergano, USA TODAY
Star Trek fans may be happy to hear that the Air Force has paid to study psychic teleportation.
But scientists aren't so thrilled.

The Air Force Research Lab's August "Teleportation Physics Report," posted earlier this week on the Federation of American Scientists (FAS) Web site, struck a raw nerve with physicists and critics of wasteful military spending.

In the report, author Eric Davis says psychic teleportation, moving yourself from location to location through mind powers, is "quite real and can be controlled." The 88-page report also reviews a range of teleportation concepts and experiments:

• Quantum teleportation, a technique demonstrated in the last decade that shifts the characteristics, but not the location, of sub-atomic particles at great distances.

• Wormholes, a highly theoretical possibility whereby the intense gravitational field near black holes could rip open entrances to distant locales.

• Psychokinesis, or psychic teleportation. In support of the idea, the report cites UFO reports, Soviet and Chinese studies of psychics and U.S. military studies of spoon-bending phenomena.

"It is in large part crackpot physics," says physicist Lawrence Krauss of Case Western Reserve University, author of The Physics of Star Trek, a book detailing the physical limits that prevent teleportation. He describes the Air Force report as "some things adapted from reasonable theoretical studies, and other things from nonsensical ones."

Some experts have long criticized what they see as a military sweet tooth for junk science. A "remote viewing" project, for example, undertaken by defense intelligence services and declassified in 1994, sought to see whether psychic powers could be employed to spy on the Soviet Union. The teleportation report "raises questions of scientific quality control at the Air Force," the FAS' Steven Aftergood says.

Davis, a physicist with Warp Drive Metrics of Las Vegas, couldn't be reached for comment. The Air Force paid $25,000 for the report, part of a $20.5 million advanced rocket and missile design contract. The report calls for $7.5 million to conduct psychic teleportation experiments.

"The views expressed in the report are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy of the Air Force, the Department of Defense or the U.S. Government," says an Air Force Research Lab (AFRL) statement sent to USA TODAY. "There are no plans by the AFRL Propulsion Directorate for additional funding on this contract."

Explaining why the lab sponsored the study, AFRL spokesman Ranney Adams said, "If we don't turn over stones, we don't know if we have missed something."

Canary what you are describing is stealth technology and it is nothing new. I've worked for defense contracts (GE, P&W, Grumman) for many years and that technology goes back decades and has nothing to do with transporting battleships and people over great distances intact

Now I will agree that the science and the experiments taking place in accelerators is fascinating, though much of it is beyond my comprehension...

While I have seen a UFO or at least not one that I've recognized as such; I do believe there must be some form of exterterresial life in this infinite universe.

I also believe that most people who say they have seen a UFO (I don't mean to imply you) have not. They saw something that had an earthly explaination, but they could not explain it.

Chris, I don't what the government is working on. Even when I was in defense with a top secret clearance I did not know what they were working on. I respectfully submit that you do not either.

No, I did not go to see Cosby at Hueman. I spoke to someone that did attend and they said Cosby did not speak. He just signed books. I thought that was pretty beat and I'm glad I did not go.

Chris nothing in the article you posted changes my mind -- not because my mind is closed, but nothing is contain address teleportation beyond a quantum level, like people battleships, etc.

Maybe Cosby has decided to let his book do the talking at his appearance, Troy, because he didn't have his back-up Psychiatrist Dr. Alvin Poussaint there to shore him up.

Troy, I am not sure what you mean by "earned," but BC did go through the dissertation process. If you have access through your library system to ProQUest dissertations (http://proquest.umi.com), you can even read his abstract and a 24-page preview as well as order a copy of it. His '76 dissertation from UMass Amherst is called AN INTEGRATION OF THE VISUAL MEDIA VIA "FAT ALBERT AND THE COSBY KIDS" INTO THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CURRICULUM AS A TEACHING AID AND VEHICLE TO ACHIEVE INCREASED LEARNING.

An interesting fact in light of his recent discussions about Black personal responsibility, etc is that in his abstract he stresses the impact of institutional racism on minority children's school achievement. For example he speaks of the need for a curriculum that enables cultural "awareness" so that "educators will reject the pervasive racist myths that dehumanize our children." The entire abstract makes him sound downright radical in light of more recent comments! LOL

Just as another note: many are not aware that Camille also has an ed-doc from UMass. Her '92 dissertation is called, "The influence of television imagery on selected African-American young adults' self-perceptions."

I did not actually read either one, so I cannot judge their quality. BC's abstract is very thin on discussion of his methods, analyses, etc. I do not know if this is the norm for dissertations in education or not.

It is also interesting that CC's topic seems very similar. I'd be interested to know if she used the same sample, for example at a later time period. Note that there is absolutely nothing wrong about this if she did, assuming all her analyses and other work were her own. Just interesting. It actually can be a very powerful research methodology.) I also wouldn't be surprised if she provided a lot of help in her husband's dissertation. He does thank her in his acknowledgements, but not for any substantive duties related to the dissertation.

Again, not trying to hint at anything. Just interesting to someone like me who has gone through this process myself.

I'll hint that it is rumored that Cosby hired somebody to write his dissertation. This wouldn't surprise me because I never thought of BC as a profound intellectual thinker; more like a mediocre-jock-turned-clever-stand-up- comedian/comic actor. A lot of the things he is currently crowing about, to me, are just a common sense approach to trying to better oneself.

Yvettep, I meant as opposed to an honorary degree.

I would not be surprised to learn that Cosby's opinions have changes over the course of 3 decades.

I wonder how the Cos would feel about using Rap Music as a vehicle to achieve increased learning as many have proposed.

I meant as opposed to an honorary degree.

Ah. Well in that case it was, indeed, "earned." Folks who receive honorary degrees do not have to write dissertations--they just have to show up!

Cynique, as for those rumors about whether he was the author...I don't know. I think it would be very hard to do something like that--assuming BC went through a traditional process.

In other words, he likely met with his advisor over many months, hammered out a topic, submitted a proposal that had to be approved by his committee, made edits to that plan, recruited his participants, administered his assessments/interviews/etc, collected and analyzed his data, wrote several drafts of each chapter--each one being eyeballed by his dissertation advisor, made revisions after each chapter submission, submitted *those* chapters to his advisor, then submitted his "almost final" draft to his committee to read. Then he would have had to stand up in front of everybody and orally defend his work, answer questions, then finally resubmit the whole thing after making their requested revisions. Then everyone would have signed off on the document and only then would he have been deemed "William Cosby, EdD."

If the dissertation were not his own, he'd have had to have the real author participating along at each step of the way. I'm not saying it is impossible, but I think it is not as easy to do as it may seem.

Having said that, though, there are other ways folks can get (and have gotten) in trouble with their dissertations. For example, some have been discovered to have committed everything from major plagarism or minor inadequate attribution of sources cited. (Questions about MLK's diss are examples of this.) Others have been found to have "faked" data. And many, many folks have seemed to have gotten away with just passing with a poor quality dissertation!

Again, though--not trying to hint or anything. I haven't read his dissertation, nor do I know much about his circumstances in how he went through his graduate program.
