Anyone out there, with this Patriot Act Law on the books, is it possible for an American citizen living abroad to open a bank account in the states? I have been trying to do this for several weeks now, and the banks are telling me I have to be a resident. Anyone out there knows how to get around this? Any incites will be gladly appreciated. Thanks.

Yes. I will open a joint bank account with you, Latimer. Then just send me your social security number and all the money you wish to deposit. To show your gratitude for my doing you this favor, you might want to apply for a credit card for me by adding my name to any that you have.

BTW, Latimer's having somebody in America open up a joint checking account with him really is a possibility to be explored.

(Somebody maybe.

Myself, I wouldn't want the temptation--let me tell you a little story. Knew a woman once who embezzled $50,000 from the bank she worked at. First it started out she would pinch 5 bucks here and there. When she needed gas. When she needed lunch. She always put it back.

Then she started pinching for big stuff. Like rent. Jewelry.

And she stopped putting it back.

Lead thee not in the path to temptation....
