For those who want to take their minds off the woes of the real world, here's an escape into the phony world

PATTY JACKSON'S 4-1-1
Week of October 15, 2007

Tyler Perry wants his loyal fans to know he loves you! Perry has the number one movie in the country with Why Did I Get Married? The all-star cast of Janet Jackson, Jill Scott, Tasha Smith, Malik Yoba and Richard T. Jones was amazing. This movie is a classic. Perry worked overtime promoting his movie, and he jumped over many obstacles making his dream come alive. He was told the movie wouldn’t be a hit because he didn’t have a dress on. He was called a racist because the movie had an all-black cast. Tyler says he’s grateful for the support. Next March, he will be rolling out his new movie, Meet the Browns, with Angela Bassett and Rick Fox.

Now that she has a number one movie under her belt, Janet Jackson is headed back to the recording studio. She’s working on a new album with boyfriend Jermaine Dupri and Producer Rodney Jerkins. She will not be working with longtime Producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis.

Prophetess Juanita Bynum is about to lose her Atlanta home. Bynum owes close to $40 thousand in back property taxes, and she could lose her home by early November. Bynum has had a tough year. First, the beating by her husband, and now she has fallen onto hard financial times. A fundraiser is currently being planned to help her save the Atlanta property.

Singer Lauryn Hill is expecting baby number five. The troubled singer’s baby daddy, Rohan Marley, is also the father of her other children. Marley recently moved to Ethiopia. On his myspace page, he lists himself as a single man with no mention of his nine children.

A November 14th court date has been set for Eddie Murphy and Mel B. That’s the day Mel finds out how much child support she will be getting from the famed movie star. Mel says this is about more than just money. She wants Murphy to take an active role in their daughter’s life. She wants a judge to force visitation rights. So far, Murphy has not seen his youngest child. He is currently planning a Christmas wedding in Tahiti with current girlfriend, Producer Tracey Edmonds.

Sherri Shepherd of The View is about to cash in on her troubles. Shepherd thought she had the dream life: a new show (The View), a new husband and a new baby. What she wasn’t counting on was a cheating husband with a pregnant girlfriend. This really happened to Shepherd, so she recently signed a deal with the CW Network to base a show on what happened to her. In the show, the girlfriend and baby move in with Shepherd and her husband.

Actress/Singer Vanessa Williams is $20 million richer. The Ugly Betty star has just signed a record breaking deal with Pro Active Skin Care to endorse their product and develop a cosmetic line. Williams used to suffer from bad skin, but it cleared up since she started using Pro Active.

The pressures of the record business are causing a lot of heartache for one young teen and her parents. 14-year old Keke Palmer, best known for her roles in Akeelah & The Bee and Jump In, signed a deal with Atlantic Records a while back, but so far no project has come out because the company keeps pushing her to record sexually provocative music. Palmer and her parents are standing their ground. They want her to record respectable R&B and have a clean image. They did not raise their daughter to be a slut. The record company has stopped paying for recording sessions and won’t let Palmer work with acclaimed producers like Babyface.

Shaquille O’Neal is getting into the pretzel business. O’Neal and his company, O’Neal Franchises, are getting into business with Auntie Anne’s Pretzels. They are expected to open franchises across the country, in the Caribbean and South Africa.

Jermaine Jackson is still refusing to pay child support to two of his nine children. Jackson recently told a judge he has no means of income, so therefore he can’t give any money to his baby momma Alejandra. Alejandra also has two children with Jermaine’s brother Randy. Alejandra is currently living with Jackson Matriarch Katherine. Alejandra says her only source of income is her job that pays her only $81 a month. Alejandra says she doesn’t know how she would make it without her children’s grandmother.

So what’s really going on with Singer Bobby Brown? Did Bobby suffer a mild heart attack, or was it a publicity stunt gone wrong. Let’s go with the latter. Bobby is preparing to hit the road on a concert tour. Most promoters won’t touch him because they fear he’s not healthy, and may be bogged down with addictions. Bobby went to the hospital to get a physical. When he was spotted by hospital workers, they assumed something was wrong with him, so he went along with the story about the mild heart attack. But, the story spun out of control and had Bobby on death’s doorstop. Bobby couldn’t jeopardize his upcoming tour, so he had to tell the truth, sort of. Bobby did get a clean bill of health, and he could be headed to a city near you.

Don Cheadle’s movie Talk To Me is coming out on DVD October 30th. The movie opened to critical acclaim about the life of Washington, DC Talk Show Host Petey Greene. Cheadle is phenomenal in this role along with Taraji P. Henson.

Star Jones is having rating problems on her new Court TV show. The ratings have been less than spectacular, and she is pulling in her celebrity friends to help her out. Tyra Banks’ talk show has also been underperforming as well. Poor time slots are likely the cause because her core audience is in school when her show airs.

Alicia Keys will release her new CD, As I Am, on November 13th. Check her out on the November issue of Ebony magazine.

The musical Hairspray with John Travolta, Queen Latifah and Zach Efron comes out on DVD Nov. 20th
