nothing makes me happier than when i see someone come to their senses and quits the habit of smoking.
why do we take pleasure in abusing our health?
and also why do all government give their consent to the tobacco companies to promote and profit from the sale of tobacco which has ruined the health and lives of millions?
this is why i question politicians that stand up and say that they want peace!
we could have peace but man has put the pursuit of money above everything else and at any cost.
as a result of that our world is in a mess
people are in a mess because we have been lead astray by the idea that if a politician says something is ok
we dont question it.
well looking back over the hundreds of years
would you not agree that on hold our governments have been making decisions that have left us open to immense suffering?
its like our government in the uk
they raised the age of consent to smoke from 16-18 thinking that that will discourage youngsters from starting up the habit of smoking!
would you not agree that the best way to discourage anyone from smoking is to remove cigarettes from the shops?
but of course they would never do that because they would lose billions in taxes!
so on the one hand the governments are not willing to provide health care insurance so that young kids can afford to have their teeth fixed
but its ok to smoke ourselves to eventual death whilst the government rakes in countless billions!
this is why i say it is time for us to wise up!
value our health!
look after ourselves!
teach our kids to follow a good example and protect them from the bad influences in our societies.
why should we ruin our health so that tobacco companies and our corrupt governments can become rich and powerful
whilst we become weak and vunerable?
it is ok to work for a living but not at the expense of corrupting people to take up a unhealthy and unnatural habit that eventually causes death!
this is why i believe that we are yet to be governed in a way that brings out the best in people and leads to a better peaceful healthy society.
we need people in government that are responsible and caring.
would you say the american government is responsible and caring?
if they were america would be in a better state than it is at present.
it wasnt that long ago that black people were denied equal rights by the political system that gave its consent for our black brothers and sisters to be taken from africa to work in the cotton fields for white americans.
and then once they decided to abolish the slave trade
they denied basic human rights to the very people they used to build up their country!
and still today governments continue to misuse its authority by giving its consent for tobacco to be sold to us for profit
and what do we do?
we go right ahead and smoke!
look at sammy davis jr
a black man that experienced terrible racism for years
and yet he died of a smoking related disease!
now you can reason and say that he made a choice and he paid the ultimate price
which i agree is true
but think about it..how long has our governments known about lung cancer?
and yet have they removed all tobacco related products?
of course they havent!
and by them failing to do so that has encouraged people to start up the habit which eventually leads to their death.
governments should be responsible and not tolerate
the tobacco trade because it has been responsible for the death of millions of people which is terrible!
so since our government doesnt care about us then we need to care for ourselves!
so therefore make a decision today to quit smoking
right now!
the more we care today
that will ensure that our kids will grow up and follow a good example of how to care for themselves and each other.

I think smokers are rebels who pick their own poison. They don't let other people tell them what vices they have to give up, since there are so many other indulgences that are hazardous to your health. Furthermore, all of the negative statistics are based on a 1-to-2 packs a day habit, and there are millions of people who don't come close to smoking that much. Yes, smokers pollute the air but so do a multitude of other things. Do I smoke? Only on certain occasions nowadays, and I enjoy doing so. Different smokes - oops - I mean different strokes for different folks. I love watching old black and white melodramatic, or film noir movies where everyone smokes, and where cigarettes were actually props. I like observing the different smoking styles of both the actors and actresses. Ah, nostalgia.

@ cynique
thanx for your views on smoking...am i correct to assume you are a rebel?
i would say that people that pick tobacco inhalation has their poison are not just rebels but also fools.
why should you start a habit that will ruin your clean healthy lungs, yellow your clean teeth
all for the sake of making the tobacco companies rich?
that isnt a good deal is it?
in fact its a terrible deal which has been going on for far too long.
we adults have a responsibility towards ourselves and to the children that are growing up.
someone has to teach them to value their health.
and as for the film noir movies you mentioned in which it was deemed to be cool.
well cool it may have looked on the silver screen but in reality it was far from cool.
have you ever been kissed by a smoker?
if so you will know how off putting it is.
and also smokers stink of tobacco
even if they are wearing the most nicest expensive clothes.
also think about this...Humphrey Bogart was one of the coolest actors back in the day and he was rarely seen in a movie without a cigarette in his mouth
and yet he died from a smoking related disease.....where is the cool in that?
the introduction and approval of tobacco into human society is another example of the proverb that says man dominates man to his injury.
also we gasp at knowing the ancient Inca's used human sacrifice to please the god they believed to be the sun!
well are we any different?
is it acceptable in enlightened times to sell and entice people to start a habit that causes death?
it shouldn't be but it is, therefore human society today is just as blood thirsty as the Inca's were .
but the difference is they did what they did out of ignorance...we do it out of greed and love for money.
the day big business, government and the public come to our senses, things may start to change for the better of all mankind.

As I said, Imtiredowaiting, people have choices about their vices. Your vice seems to be being a self-righteous, judgmental, pontificating busybody. And so it goes.

Now don't send an e-mail to the staff about rude posters driving you away, Imtiredowaiting. Just take a tip from me: make your posts a little shorter, and I'll try not to respond to those I don't agree with.

as i am permitted...and i don't mind if you choose not to respond..I'm not posting to please you or win medals.

OK, I'm not against smoking and to call me a "fool" for this is judgmental. Many intelligent people still smoke because they are not examples of the worst case scenarios you cite. And I assume you are posting because you want to be read, and your chances are better of having this happen if your posts are not too long.
