ok here are the best movies that I've seen so far this year, and i thought i'd share them with ya'll in case you hadn't seen them. I used a 1-10 rating.
1. "300" is a good movie actually the best one i've seen this year. i give it a 8.5
2. "knocked up" you like crass humor then you'll get a few laughs from this flick... i give it 6.8
3. "transformers" better than expected, not like the old transformers i grew up with but still impressive ... 7
4."evan almighty" it was ok if you are looking for something you can take youngsters to see i guess, but i can't recommend it. ...4
5. "simpsons movie" i was not surprised that they couldn't take the simpsons to another level. i think they've done everything possible already. it didn't suck but it wasn't great either. ....5
6. "shrek the third"
i saw this one at the dollar show so i technically can't complain too bad. it was ok, not better than the other two. ..6
7. "grindhouse" if your a tarentino fan, than you won't be disappointed, you better have some time on your hands though because this is two different movies... i would suggest getting a rental, so you can watch one at a time. ...8
8. "spiderman 3" this was weak if you actually know what really happened with spiderman and venom. if you don't then i guess it would be alright. it's worth a rental if you've seen the other two i guess.... 6
9. "live free or die hard" ... you know it seemed like it was ok, i really can't give a fair score right now because i saw this on a weak quality bootleg for freeninetynine .... n/a
10. "blades of glory" ... sorry can't rate this one yet either i am expecting it from netflix sooner or later. but i am just mentioning it now so i can come back to it. .... n/a
well those are all that i have seen i am basically averaging one movie a month. most of them are rental or dollar show worthy. i think 300 was worth the full price admission and so was transformers tho... anyways hope this was a nice read for you.

I've only seen 300 from your list. Here's mine, Dobes. I do not see nearly as many movies as you do, but for what it is worth:
1. Ratatouille--Great, great film; Do not dismiss it just because you may not have kids.
2. Let's Go to Prison--The most hilarious movie of it's kind (whatever "kind" that may be) that I've seen since 40 yo Virgin; Best line: "Would you like some Merlot? I make it in the toilet." LOLOLOL!
3. Shadowboxer--Can't complain about all movie plots being the same after watching this one! Surprisingly nuanced performances by Monique and Cuba. (But warning: may be unsettling for some.)
4. Daddy's Little Girls--The first Tyler Perry work I have ever seen; Not a perfect movie, but still a nice change of pace in terms of depictions of Black folks.
5. Most want to see but haven't yet: Talk to Me. Kasi Lemmons is awesome! |

I don't attend movie theaters. I just wait for pictures to come on Cable and watch them on On Demand. Just a few of last year's releases that I've recently enjoyed and seen for free are:

snakes on a plane was terrible, unless you get netflix unlimited deal don't waste your money on that. i can't say that i don't blame you for not going to the movies, people are always talking and if you go to a ghetto ass theatre someone will be smoking some chronic. when i get some extra cash i want a better home theatre system ... i have a descent set up, but when i go to circuit city and best buy, i sill feel like a damn kid in a candy store.  |

Doberman23 of the movies on your list I saw the following three. All were pretty well hyped before hand, i try not to let that effect me but it does amd I'm in variably disappointed.
All three were just "OK" to me but I'd rank them as follows (keeping your numbers but putting in order of preference).
3. "transformers"
8. "spiderman 3"
1. "300"
I really enjoy a good action flick, but all of these feel short in one way or another. 300 was too obviously computer generated. Spiderman 3 was too chick flickish, and Transformers was, well, about a bunch of sentient vehicles...
Yvettep, I did see Don Cheadle's Talk to Me
http://www.aalbc.com/reviews/don_cheadle.htm this is the best movie I saw all year. I really enjoy Cheadle. Chiwetel and Taraji acting was superb.
A good story, well done.
I think I will go see The Bourne Ultimatum this weekend. Everyone says it is really good. But I'll try not to get my hope up.

Apocalypto!!!!
He may be a banana short of a fruit bowl but Mel Gibson has all the makings of a great director. Not only did he research his topic well (considering that the Mayan civilisation is quite hard to research considering time and the like, and you got to make allowances for the whole 'Hollywood' touch this film has been given - though for an epic not a lot at all) he also built up enough empathy, love or hatred of the characters (depending on who they were) that you really cared about what happened in the story.
One of the very few times I have come out of the cinema in more than a couple of years and actually went on and on about the film and what happened in it (a good sign).
1408 looked good but I didn't get to into it, I might give it another look this weekend. This film wasn't made in 2007 but watch 'Creep' guys and think of the nEw York subway whilst watching it - terrifying! It is a British film but I am guessing it was release in America too.

If I have to pay for it, I don't watch it, Dobes. Movie packages that come with Comcast On-Demand Cable are free. Comcast also offers Pay For View, but I don't patronize that. |

Inside Man is an interesting and, unexpectedly, FUNNY movie.
A favorite line in Inside Man:
Mayor: "You're a magnificent cvnt."
Wheeler Dealer woman (played by Jodie Foster): "Thank you, sir."
300 is a stirring film. Most fans of the movie get off on its look and the violence. But I found and still find it evocations of manly honor, bravery and sacrifice most memorable.
Shadowboxer. One of very FEW times I've enjoyed Cuba Gooding Jr. I hope I get to see more of that from him. And that dayam HELEN MIRREN. There's something about that ol' White broad that gives me wood something pretty awful.
Overall, The Bourne Ultimatum is okay. I mean, I regret that with every succeeding Bourne movie the main character, ironically, appear less and less...human.
But there's a fight scene in the middle of Ultimatum that's an ALLTIMER. Bourne and this Black dude name Desh are gettin' that sh*t ON!!!
That scene, right there, is why I'd pay to see the movie again. |

I haven't seen very many current movies. I'm like Cynique, I watch things once they come on HBO/SHOWTIME etc. and every once in a while I'll spring for a PPV. The latest thing I saw was The Prestige and I enjoyed it. I started to watch Idlewild but I hated it after about 15 minutes. I'm waiting to see Deja Vu, I heard that it was pretty good. In the meanwhile, I'll watch the Star Wars movies a thousand times, I never get tired of watching those

apocalypto-amazing film.
mel gibson's film was waept under the rug because of his alleged "jew" comments, but the film was just breathtaking.
pan's labyrinth- the best film i saw so far in 2007.
the bourne ultimatum was very good, as was knocked up.
half nelson was a very good film too.

Thank you Lil_ze! I also thought it was an incredible film. The cinematography was breath taking. The actors were an interesting hodgepodge of Indians and Latinos. I agree, Mel Gibson took a serious drubbing for his Jew baiting comments (like Michael Richards and his "N" word meltdown) which he will probably never recover from (and rightfully so). I'm sure his drunken "attack of the hymies rant" did not help. But the movie was incredible. I was stunned to see so many negative reviews that centered around the violent depiction of Indians in the movie. Regardless, I highly recommend it.
