EXCLUSIVE: Barry Bonds' Home Run Record Tainted by Mechanical Device

NEW YORK (Commentary) Beyond his alleged steroid use, Barry Bonds is guilty of the use of something that confers extraordinarily unfair mechanical advantage: the “armor” that he wears on his right elbow. Amid the press frenzy over Bonds’ unnatural bulk, the true role of the object on his right arm has simply gone unnoticed.
This is unfortunate, because by my estimate, Bonds’ front arm “armor” may have contributed no fewer than 75 to 100 home runs to his already steroid-questionable total.
Bonds tied Henry Aaron’s home run record of 755 on Saturday night and will go for the new standard this week back at home in San Francisco. As a student of baseball – and currently a mechanics consultant to a major league baseball team -- I believe I have insight into the Bonds "achievement." I have studied his swing countless times on video and examined the mechanical gear closely through photographs.

Bonds was here in San Diego when he tied the home run record this weekend before 42,497 fans in Petco Park. There was a mix of boos but mostly cheers for him. But a lotta people hate this brother. I saw sports commentator Bob Costas rake him over the coals in a HBO Sports program about the alleged steroid usage. I was shocked to see him take these allegations so personal and serious. Costas was very animated and angry towards Bonds. He wants the baseball commissioner to put and asterisk besides Bonds name in the record books (when he breaks the HR record), denoting steroid use. I wish the brother luck because records are made to be broken. The haters are never happy.....

Where the hell was Costas when the Mark McGuire, Jose Canseco and Raphael Palmero. were hitting +50 homeruns while juicing the 'roids? Hell, 1996 NL MVP Ken Caminiti was so jacked up on ‘roids he friggin’ DIED from the sh*t a few years ago.
Costa and the rest of the sport press are almost as much responsible for and the beneficiaries of the juicing as the players themselves.
How much money did the sports media, ESPN, sport writers, etc. make mythologizing what McGuire and Sammy Sosa did as they both broke Roger Maris homerun record in 1998? How many articles and books, how much airtime, etc did foks like Costa milk from that?

Ummm......I guess you don't like Costas? Seems like you're being somewhat vague about how you feel about him ABM. Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Yeah, I agree. I detest most of the sports writers for their hypocritical stench. I have noticed this trend also. When an athlete is at the top of his/her game, they cheer them on. When their careers seem to be heading South for whatever reason, they enthusiastically leap on the over the hill and washed up mantra of the day. I seen them do this with Mike Tyson and Scottie Pippen.
Just this evening, I was reading an article by a local sports writer who was slamming Bonds -for the usual never ending allegations. Personally, I'm not a big baseball fan but I wish Bonds all the luck in the world for breaking the HR record. It's not so much that I'm a Bonds fan but I just like the idea of pissing off self serving fair weather sports writers and commentators (like Bob Costas) off. Go Berry!!!!!!

Congrats to Bonds.
Though I lament that injury thwarted Ken Griffey Jr. (who were it not for injury probably would have gone down as the greatest baseball player ever) from breaking Hank's homerun record, I'm HAPPY the record is still held by a brothaman(...and not that UTHA man). |

Ya know, as I said before, I'm not a big baseball fan, but my male friends are. They told me when Hank Aaron broke the HR record, there were some rabid white racists who lost their minds. The man was receiving death threats against himself and his family! These racist crackers actually threaten to kill and do bodily harm to an athlete for doing the best he could. It's hard to imagine such mindless hatred and racism. So yeah, I'm glad a brotha has broken the record (again) just as I was very happy to see a black man win the Super Bowl as the head coach.
And this is old news, but I have to be honest when I found out that Art Shells replacement for the Raiders is a 31 year old white guy. It left a queasy feeling in my stomach. Of all the professional black offensive coordinators and college coaches, only a 31 year old white guy (Lane Kiffin) is best for the job..??????? Am I missing something here???
But to be fair, Davis fired Art Shell after a very disastrous season. He apparently became fixated on hiring a young offensive mind to succeed him. And he has done this before. John Madden was 14 months older than Kiffin when he took over the Raiders in 1969. And Mike Shanahan (35 in 1988) and Jon Gruden (34 in 1998) excelled in their 30s. So maybe it's a youth thing with Davis. I dunno. Time will tell I guess......

Well. Art Shell is the very FIRST ever NFL coach. And it was Al Davis who hired then and rehired him last year.
So Davis is (relatively speaking, at least) okey dokey with me.
But I am beginning to think the game has finally began to pass Davis by. Which is a shame. Because Al Davis truly is one of the NFL's great and certainly most colorful figures. |

BTW, I'll be for a special mark in the record books when they start putting them next to everyone's stats. High tech swing and other analyses...expensive sports trainers...high tech medical procedures and medical devices/implants...technology-aided sports shoes...Why stop at notations for "performance-enhancing" drugs?
Not to mention--it's been a loooong time since my softball playing days, but I recall it takes a lot more than raw power to hit a home run. Perhaps a Black man just cannot get credit for timing, hand-eye coordination, smarts, technique and knowledge of the game. |

I found it interesting what one white wag said about Barry Bonds, something to the effect that he was a naturally-gifted, superior athlete to begin with and was guaranteed a place in baseball's hall of fame based on his feats as a young ball player in his "pre-steroid" days and was on track to break Hank Aaron's record. This guy wondered why Bonds felt the need to enhance his skills - if indeed he did. Who knows? But it's a new era and the sports world is just going to have to live with the steroid factor because pharmacists have now perfected new versions that, when used, can't be detected. |

I didn't have a problem with Art Shell coming back to the Raiders because I get behind all the black major coaches considering the history of racism and the treatment black coaches (which unfortunately still exists). But Shell coming back to the Raiders proves disastrous! Bro Art created a lot of animosity and bitterness among the players. Why, I don't know. But the Raiders were in chaos and it was very apparent. People out here on the West Coast talked about this. They knew it was a bad mix and the team suffered. Not blaming Shell completely because I'm not privy to all the details but that was the talk. No one thought the Raiders could be worse that they were in 2005. But they were in 2006.
When you go to the Chargers-Raiders game here, there are more Raiders fans than Charger fans! People here are fanatical about the team and the only game they seem to care about is beating the Chargers. They could tolerate a 2-14 season as long as they two games they win are against the Chargers. It borders on the Ohio State-Michigan insanity.

i never supported oj, i just wanted others to feel how black people feel when injustice was done and all the proof was right in front of their face. o.j. should thank the person who filmed the rodney king beating ... if not for that he'd be in jail right now.
baseball kinda sucks, it's the only sport where you can lose 60 games and still make it to the playoffs. i really didnt care iof barry broke the record or not, that was until the radio stations and tv shows brought it up every day. after a while it got out of hand, and i have never liked to see people getting jumped or bumb rushed. so the end result was for me to root for him. although i think hank aaron had a whole lot of hell to go through in comparison, at least the #1 and #2 record holders are bros ... until alex rodriguez breaks it in a few years.
art shell is no worse than the coaches the lions have had, ever since 96 they have sucked more than serenasailor in houseful of dicks. we would be happy if they eventually when 7 games. :p |
