Etta James Hospitalized in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES -- Etta James was in stable condition Thursday after being hospitalized for complications from abdominal surgery she had last month, her manager said.
The 69-year-old blues singer was being treated at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
"Her condition is stabilized" but she had to cancel upcoming tour dates with B.B. King and Al Green, her manager, Lupe De Leon, said in an e-mail.

Hmmmm.....I wonder if it (complications) was from gastric bypass or some other similar gastric weight reduction surgery. She looks kinda rough in that photo. Not saying that to be critical or harsh but this photo is a far departure from what I have seen of her before. Because most of her life, she was a very large woman. Since I haven't seen any photographs of her over the past few years, it's very clear she has had a very drastic weight loss. And yes, I know everyone physically changes because of aging (although some members of this board feel they are immune to such and they will remain the same forever). So, I guess I was just initially taken back by the photo. Regardless, Ms. James is a wonderful and very soulful R&B/blues singer. I hope she recovers well.

Not really. I have no problems with age nor do I disrespect others who are older than I am. I still often address my parents and other blacks who are old enough to be my parents yes sir/mame and no sir/mame. It was the way I was raised.
But a cynical uneducated 50 year old 7th grade drop out woman might have problems.....shrug.......

Whatever NTFS. If you'd like to think of me as what you posted, that's fine. But you should probably get your facts straight before making snide remarks. I can promise that an uneducated 7th grade dropout couldn't get a federal government civil service general schedule position and have their official employment records reflect them as being college educated. And if you'd like me to substantiate what I've just posted, I'd be happy to do that. I can fax or mail my education and employment records to any person of your choosing. Have a nice day.

The concept of age and the significance of diplomas are man-made distinctions that Society uses to conveniently classify its members. But in the abstract world of "thinking outside the box", age is just a number, and a diploma just a piece of paper. Some people are "old" at 45, others have college degrees but are "ignorant". |

Etta has lived a very hard life--that she is even still here is an example of how tough a human is.
For some reason I'd always thought Etta James was a black woman.
(You thought right. She's black clear through--she's certainly blacker than Condoleeza Rice or Clarence Thomas) |

Ya know something, you would do very well by accepting and believing the same suggestions that you give! Just think about the digs you hurl at me. Wow! No shit??!! Um....I'm sorry. I'll have to take that under serious advisement coming from you. Such simple everyday North American grammatical errors are not allowed. Tsk...tsk...tsk. Thanks for the correction. I'll have to do better -especially when grammar checking all of your posts for non-academic syntactical errors.

Back in the day, Etta James actually posted on this board.
This was before the restrictions for posting were in place but there is no reason for me to believe it was not her.
I have never seen Etta perform live. I'd planned to do so next chance I got. I hope I will get a chance to do so real soon.
