Well, I been saying my boy wouldn't last until the primaries and he may have done it now.

Reports going around that he has stated he believes in sex education for real young kids--like in first greade.

Didn't he learn from Jocelyn Elders?

It's kindergarten actually. And I'm dismayed. I think it's enough to tell young children about inappropriate touching - that no one but mommy and daddy (unless they are pervs) should be allowed to touch you underneath your clothes.

I feel that sex education for five and six year olds (or younger) is just plain wrong. Why would anyone recommend that we spoil the innocence of our children. What really needs to happen is that we crack down on all these child molesters, peeping toms, mental patients, perverts, sexual deviants, lecherous teachers and rapists (did I cover everyone?), start giving harsher mandatory sentences instead of a slap on the wrist and probation/parole so that they can go out and offend on the next kid. Give those bastards the death penalty or make them into a eunuch, give them hormones I don't give a shit.

I understand his rationale, he seems to feel that because children are getting molested they should be warned and told about EVERYTHING, but he's going about it all wrong. He lacks critical thinking abilities and/or his advisors are telling him the wrong shit. He really is not suitable to be the president. Sorry.

When Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama reaffirmed to Planned Parenthood this week that he believes elements of sex education should begin in kindergarten, Republican Mitt Romney saw an opening -- and he pounced.

"I was governor four years,' said Romney. "I never had one person coming to me and say, 'You know what, governor, I'm concerned about something.' What's that? 'I'm concerned about sex education. I'm concerned my kids aren't learning enough about sex.' I never heard that."

Romney may have never heard that because Massachusetts -- the state where he served as governor from 2003 to 2007 -- has a decidedly progressive sex education curriculum. Under the state's non-binding framework, school districts can begin working towards the state's sex education goals as early as pre-kindergarten...

Obama responded to the attack in 2004 by saying that he wants young children, including his own daughters, to know the difference between appropriate and inappropriate touching because he has family members and friends who suffered abuse at early ages...

"Nobody's suggesting that kindergartners are going to be getting information about sex in the way that we think about it," said Obama in 2004, according to a Daily Herald clip provided by the Obama campaign. "If they ask a teacher 'where do babies come from,' that providing information that the fact is that it's not a stork is probably not an unhealthy thing. Although again, that's going to be determined on a case by case basis by local communities and local school boards.'"

...After ABC News began reporting how the Massachusetts sex education curriculum functions, Obama sought to draw a parallel between the K-12 sex education standards he supported in Illinois and the wide-ranging goals that exist elsewhere.

"All I said," Obama told the Associated Press, "was that I support the same laws that exist in Massachusetts and New Hampshire, in which local communities and parents can make decisions to provide children with the information they need to deal with sexual predators."

The Massachusetts Comprehensive Health Curriculum can be read on the website of the state's department of education. The pre-K through grade 5 sex education component appears on page 31.

Americans are sicker about sex than they are about race--he should have started crying, pointed to the flag and singing "God Bless America" and left.

The pundits are saying it is his first big stumble--

(Except if they are rich white Republican men in which case they are going to get counseling--and if you let them off with a slap on the wrist, you gotta let everybody off, at least on their first time

So nothing will be done. Keep an eye on your kid. Michael Jackson was the first. It is going to get worse.

This has happened early enough in the campaign to blow over and be forgotten. I don't think what he said will alienate anyone that Obama would appeal to in the first place.

Did you read the part about where I said "he seems?" That's a caveat since I don't know what he thinks about it. I'm only going by what I've heard on the news and what I've read online.

Now let's pick apart this statement:

"provide children with the information they need to deal with sexual predators"

It's not for a child to deal with a sexual predator whom they don't stand a chance against anyway. That's what parents and teachers are for. It's the parents' and teachers' responsibility to protect our children from predators. Not the child's.

Again, the solution to this problem is that our society needs to put harsher laws into place so that people leave small children (or anyone who doesn't want to be bothered with them) alone! Give them a punishment that will make them think twice (death penalty).

What's so complicated about that??? And what I really think about it is that it's a shame that our system is so depraved on such a grand scale that this is even a concern. It's sick.

I agree with Mr. Obama whole heartedly! Many, many, children are having thier innocence stolen by mommies and daddies who are themselves touching their children inappropriately. Statistics show that more perverts are increasingly clever in tricking very young children into situations where their innocence is lost. So what is worse, being uneducated on how to protect yourselves from preditors who could care less if children (sometimes as young as a few months old!) are game for thier perverted sexual cravings, and losing innocence by force, or losing a measure of innocence through education which could teach youngsters how to spot a preditor and protect themselves/escape from the violence?

I agree, Mzuri. And actually, I think there has been some research to show that most children are no match against these types of predators. Of course, as adults they have huge advantages in cognitive development, physical strength, and social and financial power. But also, many of these adults are ones that the children know, respect, and even love. We have this image of a shady, stranger, "Chester Molester" hiding in the bushes. But these are not necessarily the folks doing the most harm...

Even if a child is no match for a preditor one on one, they can be educated in some aspects like they don't have to keep secrets even if the predator has threatened them. They could be taught TO TELL and expose the predator instead of suffering in fear and silence. This is just one aspect.

Well, I'm not going to sit here and argue about how I feel about this topic - if anyone ever read my past posts I'm an advocate of the death penalty for child molesters. Are family members guilty of this - of course - and those issues should be dealt with appropriately by the other family members who are usually aware of this conduct. But sex education for kindergartners is NOT the solution. Our little children should be worrying about playtime, naptime and the things I had the opportunity to think about when I was small (THANK GOD AND PRAISE THE LORD FOR MY SWEET AND INNOCENT CHILDHOOD!) The world is sick and it's depressing.

In a perfect world, this is how it would be, but we don't live in a perfect world--far from it.
So I still agree with Mr. Obama. You have the right not to agree, just as I am entitled to agree... shouldn't be an argument just people expressing opinions or engaging in healthy debate.

There have been are cases where sweet and innocent children molest each other in kindegarten. They have learned this kind of behavior at home.

(You are out of it. What if the little girl doesn't want to show hers and one boy or a pack of them force her?

What about a recent case like we had here where a bunch of little boys 5-8 were humping on a six year old girl to her cries and screams.

How does a person old as you not know nothing about sex? This is a result of living in the Bible Belt.

There have been reports of kids bringing guns and drugs to kindegarten, and little boys displaying very aggressive behavior sexually and otherwise. Little kids are not naturally innocent. They have to be civilized and taught right from wrong. IMO.

Cynique is absolutely correct as she always is and as I have always stated she is on this list every day, praises be to God.

Though we want to sentimentalize them as wonderful little creatures they are just little people. They lack the power and experience to commit awful crimes but they must be watched--they don't know the wrongfulness of their actions--

Some of which is learned from older children or adults.

Nothing will change as long as people like you continue to turn a blind eye to the problem of child molesters (and all the other perverts that I mentioned above).

(I am going to do all I can--which is to avoid molesting or doing anything inappropriate with any children--no matter how innocent I think it may be.

I cannot stop the Michael Jackson's of this world. Apparently everybody is doing a good job warning their children to avoid scary looking strangers--

But what about that neat, shaven, polite acting smiling one with the icecream cone?

I cannot stop the people in positions of trust and power--the politicians and teachers and priests--

Particularly the priests, who molest time and time again and are moved by their church hierarchy so they can do it again.

One man stated that he was sodomized by a priest while his parents cringed in the next room--

(I cannot think of a time, save maybe when I was three years old or younger, I'd have thought this was okay.

Showing your weewee or ass to anybody would have been cause for an asswhuppin'. I remember a three year old female neighbor decided to scandalize all of us by pulling down her pants and peeing in front of us as she laughed.

Her brother dropped dime. Mama came on the run, caught her with her pants down. I still remember her swinging her by one arm and tearing that ass up.

I still remember being threatened with the same thing from my parents for laughing.

But, lest we forget--

MZURI WAS RAISED IN TEXAS

You know them folks is uncivilized down there!

My mother said that when she was growing up there was no sex education in school and the parents (being good church folks who didn't mention sex at all) wouldn't teach them either. Most girls found out about menstrual cycles and such when they got one. A few of them almost had nervous breakdowns because they thought they were "hurt". Even AFTER a girl got her cycle, most parents wouldn't discuss it and the girl would usually have to find an older cousin or aunt or friend's sister who wasn't so conservative.

I remember being 10 and seeing a friend's sister who was pregnant and so far along that she looked about ready to burst. I asked her to push me in a swing. She yelled, "are you crazy, can't you see I'm pregnant?" I always just thought she was fat...seriously. When I asked my mother what "pregnant" meant, I was told that it means you swallow a pumpkin seed and your belly gets big.

Today's 10 year old will not only tell you how a person gets pregnant....if they know someone pregnant, they'll tell you who got her that way.

Kids ain't as innocent as they used to be.
