I mean "granted" we are 'colorstruck'.
However, we are not the most colorstruck Black ppl out there.
West Indians are the most colorstruck Black ppl to me?
Since they are the most likely to marry 'out'.

My discourse on these issues has been
extremely balanced and it's the Africans
who claim that I'm so "hateful" towards
AFRICANS and so loving to Black Americans
when they read my books.
Nobody wants to face these issues...anywhere
in the world.
AMERICA...is where all the shit COMES FROM,
however.
THIS HERE (AMERICA)...is the "power source"
for White Supremacy.
Africa doesn't beam BET to you, you beam it
to them.
And for the record...after living all over
the planet, I can say without a doubt that
Dominican Republic blacks, Black British and the Black Americans are the most colorstruck black people on earth, because they are the most disconnected to their ancestral heritage.
Other blacks may be colorstruck as a "style"--but it's not embedded in them to the core like it is "Western" blacks who live in WHITE-dominated societies and have limited point of reference to
what blackness even is.
For instance, Black men in America have no "traditional dress", no African "language" they speak at the barber shop, no markings cut into their faces that represent their menfolk's battles--they don't have MASKS on their walls at home that are hundreds of years old.
All they have is the T.V./Cable hookup with
the images that WHITE MEN beam to them 24/7.

Kola; I cannot believe that you think that Blacks in America have basically 'no culture'.
I think African-Americans have a very distinctive and well known culture that relates back to their descendants and who they are.
I find it ever so offensive when Africans, or just about anyone else, think that 'Western Blacks' have no real culture just because they don't do as Africans do. All Blacks, even in Africa our so unique and different from one another.
OUR culture derives from slavery, it is the most significant thing that happened to us. And for someone to dismiss something, we as a people, went through for hundreds upon hundreds of years as 'nothing' and suggesting we are culture free is really bloody hurtful.
Western Blacks have achieved a lot, civil rights movement that influenced Blacks in South Africa BTW, and done a lot for the rest of the world and to dismiss it all seems quick to the mark for me. Shows a lack of understanding.
SS, has a good point - I like you Kola as you are passionate and have a lot to say that we should listen to. But you very rarely call Africans out, they are almost angels compared to everyone else - especially Western Blacks. |

I don't have a 'persona' and didn't deign to make one when coming on here. I just write on reactions I have to certain posts and to the names that post it. My age really discombobolates people. Just like biased white people have a stereotypical image of black folks, people seem to want older people to act a certain way, and they're uncomfortable if a senior citizen doesn't conform with the stereotypical image. But when I come to this board, my core personality emerges, and I am who I am; neither young nor old. Just me. It depends whether or not you speak Welsh NTFS and what part of Wales you are in.
In the south of Wales; especially Cardiff which is Wales capital city, the Welsh language has all but died out (as in not spoken fluently in everday life in comparison to English). It is only spoken by the 'hardcore Welsh' who oppose the English colonisation of the past - and see the colonisation as ongoing by the insistence of the English language in Wales. It is also taught in the school national curriculum.
I was living in Bangor, a north wales university town. Most of the locals spoke Welsh, but English is most widely used still. This is the case for a large part of North Wales...except when you venture out to Mold and Wrexham which is near Chester (near Manchester) and close to the English - Welsh border. They speak Welsh, but English is still primary.
Though where I lived was a university town it was quite 'common' area and the Welsh accents were STRONG. I worked with one girl and could not understand a single word she said. Every sentence was interrupted by an inane laugh, even the Welsh couldn't understand her. She was from Caernarfon which is very insistent at keeping the Welsh language (I think Plaid Cymru - a Welsh nationalist political party hold power there which would explain a lot).
I lived in Wales for three years (in September), due to university and can understand and speak a few words (obviously not fluent as English is still the core language spoken). Diolch, Croseo, the usual polite words to get you by.
Scots, especially Glasweigans have very strong accents, except when they are from a richer class. My niece's Dad is a Scot (Edinburgh) and has still kept his accent despite living in England.
Scots and Welsh accents do not sound the same, only to ignorant ears lol. My ex is a scouser (from Liverpool) and he was constantly asked by Americans, in a hostel he was staying at in Morocco, whether he was from 'Scotland'.
Another thing you can find about the Welsh and Scots is that due to past histories with England they can be quite anti-english.

This is true. I did notice this. Like every where, there are various dialects and accents that are geographical in nature. Some Scots had moderate accents (to an American) and some had very strong accents that rendered their speaking very difficult to understand (to an American). I recall being in Burger King once and ordering a burger and a small Coke. The guy behind the counter asked me a question. I asked him to repeat it again. He did. I still did not understand him. Embarrassed, I asked him if he could repeat it one more time. He did. No luck. He might as well have been speaking Mandarin. I just grinned and said "Uh huh....yeah...thanks". He went and got my order. That was that. I felt kinda bad since I was in an English speaking country and didn't understand what someone had said. I told a Scot friend of mine what happened and he just laughed and said, "Oh, he's probably from blah..blah (can't recall). We (generic Scots) don't know what their saying either." We both laughed.

Understood. There are some very different and highly geographically identifiable accents and dialects in the UK. I did notice that.

Latina_wi: Us Brits, are obsessed with keeping our old buildings to an almost debilitating (sp) degree. It is interesting knowing that an outsider picked up on it too; we spend A LOT on the upkeep of old buildings. We even had an 'X' Factor/Pop Idol type competition television programme where viewers voted in on what old buildings they would like to 'save'!
Edinburugh is a very beautiful, and quite high brow and 'arty' city (I am seriously surprised that they lost out on capital of culture to Liverpool).
And don't feel too bad about not understanding Scottish accents....it isn't an American thing, Scots - especially Glasweigans, about the whole thing! In England they even use subtitles for some Scottish programmes (when there are colloquial Scottish words and pharses).
And my Scouse boyfriend, though he is obviously English, has a VERY strong Liverpudlian accent. Other Scousers cannot udnerstand him, lol I have to translate some words for him.
And boooy, English get more hate than any other people in the British Isles. I was sympathising with a lot of the Welsh woes about some of their complaints LOL. The English were an arrogant people (generalisation I know), and still can be. The Irish got a hard time in England in the 1960s (one of the reasons Irish and Blacks in England were close - famous sign used in homes for rent 'No Blacks, No Dogs. No Irish), still a lot of beef there.

You know, I am not an Anglophile but most of what Latin-Wi has said I know myself, from watching the History Channel, PBS travelogues and the movie Elizabeth I and the Tudors special on ShowTime and movies "Mary Queen of Scots" and "Braveheart". And any well-informed person knows that bad feeling exists between the Irish and the English as exemplified by the late Princess Margaret calling the Irish "pigs, and that Scottish accents are different from Irish and English ones. All you have to do is listen to Craig Ferguerson late night host on Channel 2 who is a Scotsman, do his opening monologue, or remember what Welch actor Richard Burton (Elizabeth Taylor's husband who was from Wales) said about Welsh being rarely spoken.

I am simply answering questions that NTFS has asked. They aren't that difficult, considering I have been born and bred in Britain for twenty one years. If you want to 'test' me about my Britishness why not ask harder ones. I didn't do very well in my history GCSE though (full or half lol).
And I didn't know you knew about the Welsh divides and the reasons why Caernarfon, Pwhelli et cetera was so fiercly Welsh....most American skip Wales and concentrate on 'London', like it's the whole of the UK. Must be some great programmes your watching. |

I mean wikipedia in general is often incorrect about a lot of the facts it produces. It constantly changes and edits it's pages. You got to remember, once you have an account you can make your own changes and start your own page. LOL some guy I know made up an animal, even did a sketch and put it up on wikipedia as fact!
I didn't say there was any inaccuracies in the ETHNICITY or DIALECT used in the films, they just made signinficant historical changes to suit a mainly American audience.
Never watched Braveheart myself but my boyfriend loves it. I do like Mel Gibson as a director so I may take a look at it. |

Ah, it's some long thing to do with the guy the Braveheart film was based on. I was told as to why it wasn't accurate a while ago, can't remember the full details.
I am sure there are some celluoids floating around to do with the inaccuracy of the film.
I think it kinds of matter anyways, your going to base a story about one man's battle and can't even be bothered to get it right? LOL. |

Braveheart was a romaticized version of the life of the great Warrior/Scholar William Wallace who as you should know was a Scotsman who lead the historical battle that defeated the English at Bannockburn. All of which has nothing to do with the movies I mentioned as being accurate in their ethnicity and dialects. You injected "historical" accuracy into the conversation. |
