Angelina Jolie has been tapped to play The Fox in a movie version of Mark Millar's WANTED. Fox in the comics is a brown female play off of DC's Catwoman. She's sleek, she's smooth, she's a jewel thief and her ex-boyfriend is 'The Detective'. But with Angelina Jolie playing her, she'll no longer be a sistah.
Now I know rumors fly all over the place as to whether or not Angelina has Iroquois blood in her. And thus would make her a woman of color. But I don't think the 'one drop' rule even matters when she's almost always played white characters. Her recent role as Mariane Pearl not withstanding. I'm left wondering what have we done, or failed to do that Hollywood doesn't think twice about putting a white actress in a woman of color's role. Whatever Halle Berry did to the association of black women and comicbook movies can't have been bad enough that known and unknown black actresses never even get to see the casting door.

I feel your pain but in order to make a change we need more Black studios, movie producers, casting directors and decision makers in HoWood. Otherwise the white people will keep serving up Angelina Jolie everytime we turn around (BTW I'm tired of looking at her, even in a white girl role - I think she's played out).

I am absolutely sick of looking at Angelina Jolie and I am glad that people are finally catching up on that--
But let us face facts. If you had a Black studio, etc, and you were putting out a movie and all you cared about was the bottom line (it is, after all a comic book movie. So what nobody gets that role) would you get a black actress with no proven track record or a white one who has sold hundreds of millions in tickets
Because
White people are the majority in this country and in order to get a mega monster hit they gotta go see the movie. In fact, the demographic you want is young white males 14-25--they like comic book movies and they like their own women.
I wouldn't have a white woman play Betty Shabazz but I wouldn't spend more than 20 -30 million on it because they ain't gonna go see it.
It's the politics.

But then imagine the crap she'd put out. The actors, it would be a rule of course, cannot cross Oprah without kissing her feet, her name must be mentioned somewhere in the script, in her name shall be in larger font during the credits. (lol)

(I have thought that the solution might lie in development of a Pan African movie public--the U.S., the Caribbean, South America, Africa, and Africans in Europe and etc. |

there are no black studios. the decision makers in hollywood will always be white/ jewish.
i say... baby steps.. tap into the gay mafia in hollywood. there are a few black sympathizers in that circle with lots of power.
blacks, especially, these black men will go ahead and spend money to see jolie. all around, we're f*cked on the issue of black access and opportunity in hollywood. |

well, the SOLE factor in the decision as to who gets a paticular "film role", should be TALENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
like it or not, angelina jolie is a VERY talented actor, who has a true "screen presence".
sure id like to se sanaa lathan cast as a "superhero type".
but until the time when black folks SERIOUSLY begin to finance their own films, and we choose who WE WANT to see in these lead roles, i have NO problen seeing actor like angelina jolie play roles of all types.
lets be HONEST-
angelina jolie is a VERY TALENTED actor, who has an enormous screen presence.
im sure that ANY role that angelina jolie is cast in, will be a great performance.
