Al Sharpton won't oppose Imus comeback

The Rev. Al Sharpton, who urged the Imus' firing, wouldn't object if the radio personality returned to the airwaves. "He has a right to make a living," he said in a telephone interview Wednesday.
Sharpton said he hadn't softened his views about Imus, who was dismissed from his syndicated program (simulcast on MSNBC) in April for calling the Rutgers University women's basketball team "nappy-headed hos." But he added that, under the right conditions, the radio star's banishment could eventually end.
Sharpton said he hoped that any broadcast outlet that hired Imus would take steps to ensure that he wouldn't return to a brand of humor that included race- and gender-based insults.
"We had never asked him to never work again," he said, echoing comments he first made to Radar magazine.
Imus' attorney, Martin Garbus, wasn't answering questions about his client's

i think this comes from sharpton being criticized for attacking imus when the same thing is done in hip hop. so i think he decided to let up because of all the criticizm he was recieving.

Interesting point. The whole Imus debacle was over played and melodrama at it's worst created by the press desperate for competitive ratings. I thought Imus was a fool and I have never liked him but I did not agree with all the hyperventilating and screeching by the race card ambulance chasers (e.g., Al Sharption). And although I did not agree with nor approve of his comments (no less than than the merchants and practitioners of the the rap Coon Culture) about the Rutgers ball players, I did not agree with him getting fired nor the obsessive over the top belly aching about his silly ass comment.

I disagree Con. I think Al has further punishment for Imus up his sleeve. The punishment that is to be meted out will be really quite painful as well. |

It has nothing to do with being a black woman or any other kind of woman. I was very clear about how I felt about his silly comments (but you would have to literate and possesses the ability to read to see it). I was referring his right to make comments -that is not the same as agreeing with his comments. I could care less what someone says as long as they are not inciting violence or recklessly putting people in harms way because of their rhetoric. It's called free speech. The Supreme Court has been very clear about this; "Ideas however unpopular and disdained will be heard."
You cannot abridge someones right to make comments simply because you are offended or do not like them. I cannot stand Rush Limbaugh because of his bellicose jabbering, half truths, exaggerations and lies. But he has a right to be heard. Me being offended by his misleading comments and nefarious rants is not enough for him to lose his right to give them.

Well, first of all SS, I don't like Bill O'Reilly. And although the biggest purveyors and shameless practitioners of openly degrading black women (and all women for that matter) are disciples of the thug Coon Culture, it still does not give the comments Imus made legitimacy. Once again, if you could read, you would see that I have been very clear about this; I never personally approved nor defended what he said -I defended his right to make comments, no matter how ridiculous. That is not the same as giving someone a free pass with the content (which again -I did not agree with). And I do not buy into the exaggerated histrionics and grandstanding by opportunistic Negroes trying to cash in on a FUBAR by Imus.
SS, instead of uncontrollably leaping at every opportunity to attack me regardless of what I post, you would be well advised to take a reading comprehension class. I think that would make your life much easier not to mention improving your tragic inability to comprehend even the most obvious.
