PS: I really should have provided more info. The three AA's that have served as mayor of New Orleans are as follows: 1) Ernest Morial 2)Sidney Barthelemy 3)Marc Morial (son of the first AA mayor) 4)Ray Nagin (current).

Many black people in New Orleans will claim to be creole even if they may not be. Of course, there are a lot more Creoles there and on the MS coast than there are almost anywhere else in the US. Yeah, but people who only know their family's bloodline back to their grandparents and are dark skinned will still say they're creole...because they were born/live in New Orleans.

It's the same argument I've heard from some black people: "I know I have to be multiracial, because I live in the US and ALL black people are mixed in the US to some extent".

Don't hold their being "creole" against them. New Orleanians are some of the FRIENDLIEST (and craziest) people in the US. There's a reason people love going there for Mardi Gras every year. They're the kind of people who still in this day and age will invite a stranger to their home to stay or for dinner. And they're the kind of people who will have a family of four, but will cook for 12 just in case neighbors stop by, and they will also have all kinds of liquor and beer just for the guests and will MEAN IT when they offer you dinner or drinks. Also, (I'm sure a couple of them exists somewhere) but I've NEVER met a homophobic male from New Orleans, black or white.

SS, you should visit New Orleans. The people are SO FREAKING NICE!

I feel for them after Katrina. Before the storm, houses could be found around the quarters for as low as 20,000...sure they were 2 bedroom "shotgun" houses, but still there was affordable housing. Now, many of the natives have left and there have been reports that a lot of non-natives have been moving in and buying up LOADS of land and converting it into high priced housing and businesses. I just hope they don't change the quarters too much, because if it is changed too much, it won't be worth visiting anymore.

The storm didn't even touch Cafe du Monde, thankfully, so there's still somewhere you can go to use the bathroom during New Year's and Mardi Gras other than the "port a potties". BTW, if you visit there you MUST eat there at least once.

SS, if you decide to visit there, tell me how you like it.

Another thing....if you stay in or near the quarters there, don't expect to have any quiet before 1 am. Ain't gonna happen.
