1. I can go shopping alone most of the time, fairly well assured that I will not be followed or harassed by store detectives.

2. I can turn on the television or open the front page of the paper and see people of my race widely and positively represented.

3. I can be sure that my children will be given curricular materials that testify to the existence of their race.

4. I can be fairly sure of having my voice heard in a group in which I am the only member of my race.

5. I can go into a book shop and count on finding the writing of my race represented, into a supermarket and find the staple foods that fit with my cultural traditions, into a hairdresser’s shop and find someone who can deal with my hair.

6. Whether I use cheques, credit cards or cash, I can count on my skin color not to work against the appearance that I am financially reliable.

7. I can talk with my mouth full and not have people put this down to my color.

8. I can swear, or dress in secondhand clothes, or not answer letters, without having people attribute these choices to the bad morals, the poverty, or illiteracy of my race.

9. I can speak in public to a powerful male group without putting my race on trial.

10. I can do well in a challenging situation without being called a credit to my race.

11. I am never asked to speak for all the people of my racial group.

12. I can remain oblivious to the language and customs of persons of color who constitute the world’s majority without feeling in my culture any penalty for such oblivion.

13. I can be pretty sure that an argument with a colleague of another race is more likely to jeopardize her chances for advancement than to jeopardize mine.

And after all that, Sabiana--which is 100% accurate

...think about the privileges that your Biracial
Female identity accords you over Authentic Black
Women for all the same reasons.

And realize that you are PART of that continuum of White Privilege by default

--and your very existense in many ways only REINFORCES white supremacy as you are a
SYMBOL of black people's defeat and yet held up as "better" than they are just by virtue of not really being black.

Don't ever forget that part of the discussion.

Sabiana originally came to this board
furious at me for saying that people like
her aren't "authentically" black.

We had a big pow wow as--just like a
white person
--she felt she had every right
to represent everybody's experience, everybody's
identity, live in everybody's space.

It's amazing how people like her don't see
the similarities between themselves and the
slave master--and that this White Supremacist
"Privilege" system is passed down to them just
as it is to whites.

The resentment she expressed in the first post
against whites...is the same resentment that many
"authentic blacks" JUSTIFIABLY have against people like herself who usurp the ability for
blacks to represent themselves....as black.

CASE IN POINT:

80% of American black women are
"Darker" than a Brown Paper Bag.
The overwhelming majority of them
are darkskinned.

But 90% of roles for black women
on television/movies go to Yellow
and Biracial women.

**Amazingly...these Yellow/and Biracial
"spokeswomen" never seem to decry or
acknowledge that RACIST fact.

But I'm going to publish an essay
about what it's been like for BLACK women
to watch women ie. Danzy Senna,
Julianne Malveaux, Tricia Rose and
so many others sit up and speak out (!)
about the prejudices against black women.

There's ONE ISSUE they never raise.

Kola,

I'd agree the percentage of lighterskinned African American women you regularly see in the Media and Art & Entertainment exceeds their percentage of the the African American population.

ABM,

I'd also agree that the percentage of WHITE WOMEN you regularly see in the BLACK Media and Art and Entertainment exceeds their percentage of the African American population.

Though people like Sabiana think I hate them and pick on them...I'm trying to make them see how they are PART of the continuum, they help to reinforce white supremacy by DEFAULT.

Until that can be dealt with (the fact that blackness is expected to 'mutate')...any discussion on white supremacy is mute.

What baffles me most of all...is that I seem to be the only Black Woman in this country who will pull a knife on this entire nation on behalf of the already-perfect humanity of my black children.

Black people...black people, ABM!...act shocked at my comments on these issues as though a black mother wouldn't want to see her own black babies born...in her own image.

And THAT is why you and I have often debate the degree of blame on the issue of Black men preferring and pursing whiter/lighter women. Because if most SISTAS themselves won't defend and fight for the preservation of the Blackness of their own children how the hell are they going to teach such to those Becky-loving SONS of theirs.

Another truth...

I love women like Sabiana. I would love to be close sisters with them.

But they're not sisters to women like me.

They don't give a damn about black women...because nobody else does and they don't have to.

Everything they do is about the Black Man--because they depend
vicariously on his blackness for their identity and position, and he's just self-loathing enough (and proud
of it) to feed their White Side.

Ultimately, however, they can no more love him any more than he loves himself...what he ran away from in his own black mother, curses and unravels them all by Karma and blood.

They remain in a constant state...of running
from the blood.

But these women who call themselves black,
they aren't sisters to black women.

And that's a fact.

They don't do shit for black women
but assist the black man in making them
invisible, as they're both running.

I'll assume you don't think ALL relationships between lighterskinned AA women and darkerskinned AA men are as you describe.

And I'll also assume you don't have the same criticism of lighterskinned AA men who mate with darkerskinned AA women.

And what would cause them to stand up and fight
for themselves, ABM?

The Mule of the World...not affirmed by anyone,
starting with the most important person--the black FATHER.

How can they?

Black men have repeatedly...since slavery
ended...put out the unmistakable message
that a Black Woman is NOTHING.

And now we are entering the age where
his "bridge out of blackness"--the Mulatto
is being put in the same NOTHING column
as well.

His next host will be the Latina and
the White Reject Women.

The continuum.

My point ABM...is that we can't expect
black MOTHERS to miraculously overcome
the images of BET and BLACK MEN magazine
and the films that black men make.

How could she possibly do it?

My only advantage is that I'm not
originally from here...and that I had
a very strong Black American father who
ENCOURAGED everything in me that was
powerful.

He always told me: "It's better to
walk alone than with a gang or a
crowd...
"

There was a poem he used to make
us read--"The Road Less Traveled".

He LOVES black women as I showed
in my autobiography. He was constantly
THERE, ABM showing us we were beautiful.

Much of what you hear me say "negative"
about Black men--was first said to me and
my sisters by OUR FATHER.

So do you see what it would take?

ABM, actually...I wasn't even talking about
"lighterskinned".

I was talking more about what I see here in
California...these "children of white women"
(or latinas) which is a whole other mentality.

But still, even amongst blacks...the people
are "running" from the blood they came from.

Even among blacks.

Their love is really hate.

ABM,

Did you skip over this----

My only advantage is that I'm not

So do you see what it would take?

(my father did what your black female
family members did/my mom basically carried
out his orders/so I credit him fully)

As you can see--my whole career is about
encouraging black women to do exactly
as you've stated. But it's a losing
battle, because they have no "core identity"
to protect.

White People and Asian people rule their
spaces because they hold their "Identity"
as their highest possession...like GOD does
in the bible.

That's what I admire about them, because
Africans used to be that way, too.

WHEN WE WERE KINGS.

Nor Mothers ABM.

But black males have a lot more 'authority'
over which way our community goes.

The "Black Power" movement and how black
women saw themselves during that period
BROUGHT ABOUT BY BLACK MEN....is proof
that the MEN of the society dictate what
drum we all march to.

On second thought ABM...I just thought
of something that makes me agree with you
a little bit more.

I had lunch with a black female college
Professor yesterday and she was saying how
her grandson is only a pre-schooler and
he already prefers latina girls.

She had such a faux look of shock on her
face as she laughed.

So yeah...I see what you're saying.

Kola,

If you ask me flatout which is more to blame for the state of Black people thoughout this country and this world, I'd also pick Black men over Black women.

But where it get's tricky is I can't extricate from the argument that Black men are the PRODUCT of Black women.

So when I see these sweeping castigations of Black men that appear to exonerate, if not LIONIZE, Black women I can't help wondering WTF planet foks have been living on.

I mean, really, how the hell can you in a rational mind separate a Black man's desire for having a woman with flowing straight or 'White' hair from the fact that his mother, aunts, grandmothers, etc. religiously - fanatically - straighten/permed THEIR hair?

Too bad the chronically clueless kola (just-give-me-an-inch-and-I'll-take-a-mile} boof can't figure out that these women she just can't bring herself to embrace as a sister, couldn't care less about being a sista to a whining, self-absorbed, wanna-be light-skinned, displaced sudanese, melodramatic mope like her. All I had to do was skim over kola's soliloquy and I knew the drill. Same ol same ol. yawn. You could'nt have done a better job of being a kola-facilitator, Sabiana. Thanks for nothin. LMAO.

ABM, I've been writing whole books
about what you're saying.

You read "Flesh and the Devil" and
RooAmber's ordeal with accepting her
own hair...Sula's talk with her baby
and her speech to the women's group about
embracing their naturalness for the
sake of their babies.

In my autobiography, I really let into
black women about our complacency in
passing "white supremacy" to our
children, both male and female.

As much as I love Mary J. Blige and
Serena---I took a lot of heat for
writing about why I was always so
embarrassed to see them on t.v.
with the blond weaves and Mary's
fake eyes.

A lot of heat.

But you're right...we have to
start making black women understand
how they are infecting our children
from birth.

I'm writing an essay about JUST THAT
as well for my collection "The Authentic Black
Woman".

Kola; I get what your saying. I always thought the lightskinned girls in the media were over represented as Black women as the several times I went to America the women were mostly very brown skinned. Light skinned women have the right to be represented too, but so do dark woman.

And Kola, as much as I see what your saying is Sabiana meant to mentally punish her existence every day because of the racism that pervades our societies? The problems she highlighted also happen to light skinned people - believe that.

When is Sabiana and women like her going to
acknowledge that they also BENEFIT from White
Supremacy?

She doesn't have to punish herself about shit,
but don't sit up and act like she's not ALSO
usurping someone else's identity, claiming
to speak for them.

She doesn't speak for me.
She doesn't even give a shit about women
who look like me--yet she believes she
adores her black father.

In her mind--he and I are two different races.

I KNOW...BECAUSE I ACTUALLY READ AND ANALYZE
THE POSTS ON THIS BOARD.

When Bi-racial women get up to speak for black
women---they never acknowledge women
who actually LOOK black.

Oprah spent millions making movies to STAR HALLE BERRY.

But after Halle made all these
public speeches about how she was
going to create roles for "black"
actresses-----those roles went
to Alicia Keys and Rosaria Dawson.

Two Bi-racial actresses.

OH...and Halle produced the t.v. project with
the Yellow elderly woman and mostly Yellow
cast, too.

She hasn't casted any women who look like
OPRAH or Kimberly Elise or Vivica Fox or
Gabrielle Union in her productions.

Those are black women.

HALLE, like most bi-racial and high yellow
bit/ches--don't even know what a black woman
is.

In fact, they're terrified of finding out.

They're the daughters of black men who
were prejudiced against their own black
mothers...therefore the connection is mute.

They see black women as "nurturing Aunt Jemimas"
just like everybody else does.

OR...

...as evil hateful bit/ches that are just
jealous of them.

Me, personally, I just see them for what they
are--another race.

And please don't remind me that I'm half Arab.
I KNOW THAT.

But I'm also BLACK-skinned, and I don't
enjoy being represented by any of those bit/ches
because they always end up sounding like liberal
White Women from the back room at NOW.

HA HA! :-)

You know, Latina-Wi, it's amazing
to me....

...how you "light" and "mixed" sisters
are always so STUNNED and not used to
hearing what Black women think.

I'm stunned, too, at how darker skinned
women in America DO NOT assert themselves,
do not assert their identity, do not
reiterate the illegitimacy of mixed women
claiming their spot.

Black Americans always look at me
like: "Did she actually say something?"

The planatation was a pressure cooker, and
it was WORLDWIDE.

That's why I'm coming out with a LANDMARK
book to be called "The Authentic Black Woman
--And Other Essays"
.

Well see, everyone, I should have made it clear.

This is from a white person's perpective in America society. This is not meant to represent my existence.

I found it from this article. http://seamonkey.ed.asu.edu/~mcisaac/emc598ge/Unpacking.html

The list is actually longer.
I'm sorry again I did not make it clear. Next time I will post the whole article.

Sabiana,

I really do like you.

I also realize that it's not easy being
in your shoes...anymore than mine.

I apologize for calling you that ugly name
in the past.

You think that I pick on you, but I've
just made a committment to myself after
reading Marita Golden's book "Dont' Play
In the Sun"....that I'm never again going
to be quiet or pretend that Mixed Women
represent Black Women in discussing racism,
as they always present the subject without
addressing their own BENEFITS in the system.

They are not only treated different than actual
black women--but they never speak against the
double standard.

And like Golden, I really am disappointed
by black black women's docile weak complacency
in their invisiblity.

Unless someone says something (as I am)...they
will never wake up from their dark shadows.

The people in this country that I often have
the least admiration for...are the Dark Skinned
black women.

And that's no lie.

Because they won't stand up for
themselves.

Puleeze. Sabiana. Like, the politics of race hasn't been discussed a zillion times on this board already. Like kola isn't just waiting to pounce on an opportunity to go into her tired old colorism mode.

Kola,

I know you've presented how Black women participate in perpetuating Black self-hated.

And considering how silent darker African American women have been on the issue of colorism it shouldn't surprise you how silent lighterskinned African American women are on the issue of colorism,

Sabiana, I haven't read or analyzed your entire list but store detectives tend to follow/suspect customers who look out of place, and that usually means that they aren't dressed accordingly. Most people don't comprehend that going shopping is conducting business, so dress for business, not for a picnic or as if you're going to do your laundry.

As to the part about talking with your mouth full - bad table manners are never acceptable regardless of your race. And dressing sloppy, displaying deplorable behavior and arguing with co-workers is simply not appropriate. If you have a problem with a co-worker, you report it to your supervisor and let them deal with it - that's the way things were when I was in the workplace.

Oftentimes, and this is just from my personal observation, people tend to create their own problems by not exercising common sense. Are Blacks judged more harshly - we already know the answer to this. Should we neglect our personal grooming, behave like barbarians, etc. because white people get away with it - we know the answer to this as well.

CASE IN POINT:

80% of American black women are
"Darker" than a Brown Paper Bag.
The overwhelming majority of them
are darkskinned.

But 90% of roles for black women
on television/movies go to Yellow
and Biracial women.

**Amazingly...these Yellow/and Biracial
"spokeswomen" never seem to decry or
acknowledge that RACIST fact.

But I'm going to publish an essay
about what it's been like for BLACK women
to watch women ie. Danzy Senna,
Julianne Malveaux, Tricia Rose and
so many others sit up and speak out (!)
about the prejudices against black women.

There's ONE ISSUE they never raise.

NOT TO MENTION THAT 'OL' MICHAEL JACKSON LOOKING HEIFA JAMIE FLOYD!! SHE REALLY GETS UNDER MY SKIN!!!

HA HA!

You know, Latina-Wi, it's amazing
to me....

...how you "light" and "mixed" sisters
are always so STUNNED and not used to
hearing what Black women think.

I'm stunned, too, at how darker skinned
women in America DO NOT assert themselves,
do not assert their identity, do not
reiterate the illegitimacy of mixed women
claiming their spot.

Black Americans always look at me
like: "Did she actually say something?"

The planatation was a pressure cooker, and
it was WORLDWIDE.

That's why I'm coming out with a LANDMARK
book to be called "The Authentic Black Woman
--And Other Essays".

Latina WI:

Kola, I am never going to tell you to stop speaking as I enjoy reading what you got to say.

But Kola, skin colour aside, you are a mixed women who is speaking for the black African woman - so if you are doing it what makes you think other light skinned, mixed women aren't?

Yep, there are light skinned women who would rather enjoy their 'privelleges' than get involved in all that 'colourism' stuff, but there are an equal number who protest about it. And they aren't patronising or have an agenda, they just care.

"Puleeze. Sabiana. Like, the politics of race hasn't been discussed a zillion times on this board already."

Thank you Ms. Cynique. Your comment is so accurate. These skin color paranoid Negroes never tire of fostering their deep rooted insecurities and personal conflicts on others. They live in this all consuming Bizzaro world of light complexion vs dark complexion. Every waking moment of their mentally tortured lives revolves around obsessing, insistently bitching, wringing their hands, gnashing their teeth in bitterness and anger that another persons skin is lighter than theirs. How sad.

I'm not denying nor attempting to suggest prejudice does not exist because of skin color differences -it does and it is not restricted to just black people! However, actively rallying and pitting one group of blacks against another group of blacks, is altogether another issue. I have no idea what these light vs dark Negroes hope to accomplish with their pathetic blubbering, belly aching, whining and vitriolic railing against other blacks, (though no fault or decision making on their own) happen to have skin that is lighter than theirs. It's so depressing and pathetic to see this kind of counterproductive intra-racial chicken shit infighting by a disgruntled minority of pathologically skin color crazed insecure Negroes.
