I'm laying up in bed sound asleep. Then I'm wide awake.
I regularly sleep through thunderstorms and tornadoes. Additionally I got the radio on.
I hear all this noise like somebody smashing glass and wood and stuff and people yelling.
I figure somebody is beating the crap out of the guy who stays in the garage next door (he is a caretaker of sorts) again and decide not to bother.
It goes on and on and finally I look up. I see smoke pouring out of my neighbor's rear window.
A tremendous fire. Five engines out. His house is burnt and trashed. He just got done doing thousands of dollars of rehab work on it.
It's an everyday thang in the ghetto.

(Nobody is talking. Looks kind of funny, eh?)
What about your property? Was it damaged?
(Nope. Some feathers blew over there from a mattress. I can smell smoke still. It could have been a lot worse)
And what happened to your neighbor?
(He's doing fine. Moved into his Mom's house a couple doors away. She's real sick and staying with his sister anyway. He's had the insurance people out. It's boarded up. He's taking it well.
His nephew had got shot last week, so when it rains it pours. |

Poor Chris. I almost feel kind of sorry for you, but I can't because I've been telling you to move away from there for months. Any place would probably be better than where you're at.
