And the things we write are always true, Sucka Get a grip, now we're talkin' about you. Talkin' All That Jazz-Stetsasonic

Every family has an Aunt Ruth, the Sista who shows up at every funeral dissin’ everybody who walks in the church. Unlike your other pompous and overly pretentious family members, "Ant" Ruth keeps it real.

If it wasn't for her you wouldn't have known about Uncle Clarence's chick on the side or that prim and proper, Aunt Hazeline was a superfreak back in tha day. I can see Aunt Ruth at the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People's "mock" funeral for the "N" word as the NAACP dignitaries do the funeral march to greet the mourning Hip Hop family.

She would be in the back pew, rolling her eyes, sucking her teeth and whispering. "Them bougie N****** ain't never liked our family, no way!"

Let's get this out the way from the jump. I'm not down with using the "N" word and frankly, if I was rollin' through tha hood and saw the NAACP scrappin' with G Unit, I'd just grab a big bag of chips and a Big Gulp and watch. However, in wrestling terms, this is more like a triple threat match between the old school Civil Rights Leaders, the commercial "gangsta" rappers and the Hip Hop activists all vying for the coveted World Championship of Black Culture.

It’s a tough question but someone has to ask it...Is it really fair to come down on tha Brotha's for using the "N" word, when in 2007, you still refer to Black folks as "colored people?"

Is there a real qualitative difference between the name NWA (N***** With Attitude) and the NAACP? I guarantee you that most rappers will not put up half the fight over the "N" word as the folks in the NAACP would if folks demanded that they take "colored" out of their title.

While many can trace the history of Hip Hop from its South Bronx origins most people are totally oblivious to the history of the NAACP. While many people automatically assume that it was always a "black thing", in reality, the first members of the NAACP were white, including the early presidents. Also, the integrationists of the NAACP fought against the self empowerment movement of Marcus Garvey and the UNIA.

Although many people argue (and rightly so) that corporations have ruined Hip Hop, it must be stated that white philanthropists/corporations have always invested heavily in the NAACP from its inception until this very day and as the old saying goes "who ever pays the piper picks the tune." I find ironic that the most notorious "gangsta" rapper, 50 cent is promoting bottled vitamin water while the NAACP promotes Anheuser Busch, the company responsible for the "hood" drink King Cobra Malt Liquor.

So, commercial Hip Hop and the NAACP have a lot in common. The NAACP had a white man as its first president and Hip Hop had Vanilla Ice. Many of the West Coast Rappers repped St. Ides while the NAACP rep's Budweiser. The rappers drink Moet and Hennessy the NAACP gets money from Moet Hennessy USA. Hip Hop headz give R. Kelly video awards and the NAACP gives R. Kelly Image Awards for songs like "I Wish) that dropped the "N" bomb a couple of times. Not to mention the remix that set a new world's record for "N" bombastic in 2001.

While some old heads may not understand the "stop snitchin' code" in Hip Hop, it must be noted that the Black community's hatred for rats is rooted in the actions of people like the former chairman of the board of the NAACP, Joel Spingarn, who according to an article in the March 21, 1993 edition of the Memphis Commercial Appeal, started spying on the NAACP for the Military Intelligence Division during WWI..

I guess somebody will come out with the truth about the United NEGRO college fund, next. BTW, black feminist, journalist, and anti-lynch crusader Ida B. Wells was one of the original founders of the NAACP as was W.E.B DuBois. Most black organizations (The Urban League, PUSH) are heavily dependent on money from white foundations and corporations.

I was really offended that they
buried the "N" word with "black" roses.

That was a major diss to West Africa.

But guess they been over here so
long they forgot.

OH....

...and when Julian Bond made his
"our women" comment--I couldn't help
but think he meant his 'white' wife.
Not black women.

I hated him so much as I read his
bull-dookey statement.

I imagine that in 40 years,
it will be impossible for
Black men to say "our women",
because the truth is, once the
black woman is totally humiliated
....they won't have any
woman. All their women will
be borrowed.

The white woman, whether she wants
to or not, belongs to her own people.
Ditto any other race of woman.

The Mulatto/Biracial woman...as Halle
Berry and Dorothy Dandridge and thousands
of others have shown, want "status"
as much as their respective negro parents,
AND they don't have the genetic power
to produce OUR PEOPLE without a really
good darkie anyway.

They grow to resent their "inheritance"
of the Black woman's "2nd class" spot
and they run for the white man quick
--which is just what they should do.

So reading that funeral shiit
was sad, Tonya.
Real sad.

Especially since after 400 years
99% of Black Americans still don't
realize what a "ni66er" is.

Truth is...more than HALF the black
people on the planet are "ni66erstock".

They are the creation of their owner.

Everything they "think"...was thought
first by their White Owner's Race.

What they see through their eyes
...is SEEN the way their White owner
taught them to see it.

BTW...Aunt Ruth was usually an
"outcast", which is why she
had so much to say.

I'm an outcast, too. So I know.

Julian Bond along with the NAACP is Bullshyt!! And everybody knows it. Including Marcus Garvey. I was reading his book and BOY IF THAT MAN WASNT DEAD ON!!

You have to understand that the only reason why Julian Bond is put "in charge" is because of his "mulatto" status. And the fact that he is well intergrated with Whites.

Ironic, indeed.

And, Cynique, re: "I guess somebody will come out with the truth about the United NEGRO college fund, next" there is a book out about this: "Envisioning Black Colleges: A History of the United Negro College Fund"
by Marybeth Gasman, John R. Thelin. A quote from the publisher's blurb about the book:

Etched into America's consciousness is the United Negro College Fund's phrase "A mind is a terrible thing to waste." This book tells the multifaceted story of the organization's efforts on behalf of black colleges against the backdrop of the cold war and the civil rights movement.

Founded during the post--World War II period as a successor to white philanthropic efforts, the UNCF nevertheless retained vestiges of outside control. In its early years, the organization was restrained in its critique of segregation and reluctant to lodge a challenge against institutional and cultural racism. Through cogent analysis of written and oral histories, archival documents, and the group's outreach and advertising campaigns, historian Marybeth Gasman examines the UNCF's struggle to create an identity apart from white benefactors and to evolve into a vehicle for black empowerment...

I said I was through adding to my summer book list. Maybe I'll add this one for fall!

Interesting. I remember a while back this organization resisted calls for it to replace the word "negro" in its title.

(They were brought on as window dressing after the white folks had met and decided that they needed some. Who put up the money?

Who puts up the money now?

You ain't even no member of the NAACP and here you are defending them.

When put in perspective, the longevity of the NAACP counts for something. And it is not without its record of accomplishments. I always defend things that snipers aim at with pea shooters. Screw Marcus Garvey. He accomplished nothing of substance.

What has the Klan accomplished lately? And are they being funded by black organizations who underwrite their projects?
