Marcus Garvey told the world what the NAACP was when it first started, but as "plantation raised white supremacists with black skin", black folk supported those leaders and organizations that were hand-picked by "WE", the white man.

The same exact mentality pervades the blacks in Africa, which is why I will never apologize for saying that more than 50% of Blacks "WORLDWIDE" are ni66erstock. It's painful, but it's a fact.

Marcus Garvey was a demagogue who met an ignoble end and left no legacy, but the NAACP is still here. That's because this organization is viable. It will always have it critics but in the long run it advances more good for blacks than it does for whites; that's its goal.

Tonya,

I think that Marcus Garvey was far superior to W.E.B. DuBois, but of course, DuBois made white people more comfortable.

I would place Harriet Tubman, Marcus Garvey, Malcolm X, Steven Biko and Winnie Mandela....

...on a much higher plain

than I would Martin Luther King, Frederick Douglass, W.E.B. DuBois, Nelson Mandela, Rosa Parks, Jesse Jackson and Louis Farrakhan.

Those in group "A" were devoted to the black race and blackness ALONE with no desire to co-exist with Whites, Indians or anyone else who wasn't black. They each described blackness as "its own perfection", they each (including Malcolm) demanded that it be "WHOLE" and they were/are the equivalent of a nationalist European or a nationalist Asian.

Only when a black man is nationalist does the world act like it's a sin.

Other races of men are respected and applauded for having sense enough to stand, without compromise, in their own boots.

Only the black man is hung for it.

"I would place Harriet Tubman, Marcus Garvey, Malcolm X, Steven Biko and Winnie Mandela.... on a much higher plain"

Wonder if the use of the word "plain" instead of "plane" was a Freudian slip. LOL. And since lynch victims are "hanged" not "hung", guess having balls was of no benefit to black nationalists. Not surprising. The execution of POWER is what matters in the real world.

"Only the black man is hung for it."

I'm reading a book now by one of those Black academic types, and this guy is pissing on Garvey, nationalism, and "Afrocentrism" like there's no tomorrow, all while casting DuBois as some great Messiah....Five pages into the book and already his Agenda was quite clear.

Sometimes The Black Man is the biggest perpetrators of these hangings.

That's strange. Didn't DuBois wound up even further to the left of Garvey, even repatriating himself to Ghana at the end of his life? Didn't he become a hardcore Communist who was called before HUAC in the early fifties by McCarthy, and had his passport taken away from him in his late eighties (so he could not attend the 1956 International Congress of Black Writers?

Yes, DuBois did swing to the left later in life. He underwent a lot of transformations in his 90 some odd years. And his book, "The Souls of Black Folks" remains a classic. DuBois of course was the anti-thesis of Booker T. Washington who was the darling of the white establishment back during his Tuskeegee days, and was considered an Uncle Tom by many. But black historians redeemed Washington somewhat in later years, saying he was a visionary of sorts.

Oh definitely.

Of course you remember my paragraph "The Black Man Is Leading Us The Wrong Way".

again.

How many times have you seen black men
pump their fist screaming about "the black man"
and then refuse to give birth to one.

Generations of being owned and programmed
to self-destruct, and of course, black mothers
have helped with that, and now, white mothers
will contribute as well.

We are pathetic, not just him.

The black race is like a baby born
with a broken back, Tonya.

Mainly because we refuse to acknowledge
that there's even anything wrong with us.

At the end of his long life (I think he live to be +90 years old) DuBois renounced his American citizenship and immigrated to Africa and died in Ghana.

So, perhaps, he eventually got what Garvey was trying to say.

ABM, the Ghanians say that DuBois and especially his wife were very prejudiced towards the indigenous people and very disrespectful and that they only socialized with other "American intellectuals in Ghana, preferrably mulatto".

The Ghanians do not write about DuBois the way they do Maya Angelou (who lived there many years and taught at Accra University).

Why, yes. Maya "Hallmark Greeting Card poetess I know why the caged bird sings and still I rise" Angelou, who got another asshole ripped, courtesy of Wanda Coleman. There's something rather dubious about her. And then here's Kola pasting her factoids about DuBois' bigotry towards Africans without actual solid proof.

Could you sound anymore like a little bit/ch, Schakspir?

And in every post no less--which is why I
won't be responding to your vindictive and
utterly immature outbursts.

And the word of lower class Africans is all the proof I need.

Good thing their word...these servants who failed to be impressed by his butter-wand complexion and these "backwards" topless women who appalled him so...good thing their word is written in "African" books.

Of course, Maya Angelou is greatly adored in Ghana, because she adored and respected the people.

Kola, nobody sounds more bitchy than you do. The You come on this board saying things that you can't prove. You say, "Maya Angelou is greatly adored in Ghana," among other things--but you offer no real proof. You say that "the word" of how black Africans (Ghanaians) is written in African books, but can you actually prove that--among other things you've claimed??

You've got to be kidding.

#1. A simple google search brings up biographies of Ms. Angelou and her life in Ghana.

#2. I know this would be a stretch for a lot of American blacks, but you could ASK GHANIANS. Join a Ghanian chat room or discussion board or something (I joined a Cameroonian chat board a long time ago because I just like Cameroonian people).

I've actually read that Dubois didn't like African natives a long time before I came to this board, but considering he and anyone he would have met in Africa aren't alive to set anything straight, I didn't make a big deal out of wondering whether or not it's true.

No, ABM....you cut Dubois some slack.

I'm quite satisfied with Marcus Garvey and Malcolm X, and like almost everybody on the African continent, I love those two men.

We don't generally care for "DuBois in Africa"
...but I do appreciate his American writings
quite a bit.

Now JEAN TOOMER, him I really admire, love
and respect. I especially like that he paid
homage to blacks with "CANE" and then and went
on and lived his life as a white man.

That's exactly what he should have done.

Kola,

It's takes all kinds of foks to make a world. What we do is a product of where we came from and how they were treated in and by the world.

X and Garvey did what they thought was best. W.E.B.D. did likewise.

There was some good and bad in what ALL of them did.

I love Toomer's Cane too.

Also, so you'll know ABM...

The reason I don't like DuBois is because deep down, like most Black Americans, he believed that "mulatto" people are better than Blacks. His works reek of that "assumption".

Marcus Garvey challenged that assumption to
DuBois's face.

Now when you figure in the fact that what is "black" TO YOU...is often a different race to me...

...and then knowing how deeply I want a revolution involving "color" to take place...you could pretty much predict how I would feel about him.

I do understand what forces created him
I do appreciate (and LIKE) his writings

I don't agree with everything W.E.B.D said and did. I don't think he'd lead all Black foks unto our glory.

But some of what he did...helped.

And I'll bet if you dug deeply into Garvey's history you'd find some pretty unflattering stuff there as well.

He also married 2 feminist black women. :-)

And I don't care that Amy Jaques was "high yellow". She believed as he did.

Look, ABM...I know you haven't taken the
time to UPDATE yourself, but the "feminists"
of the 1970s are not the "Sex And the City"
updated girl power patrol of the NOW.

And I prefer the black term--"Womanist".

Marcus Garvey was very empowering of women
in the 1920's and he wrote many essays that
I love to read over and over about his
adventures with his various "tough girls".

He often sought the advice of black women
from his grandmother, mother, sisters on
down to street prostitutes and washerwomen.

I would have fu/cked and sucked the shit out
of that man---or any black man who appreciates
a strong, smart, WOMANLY black queen.

I love men.

I meant Black women too. In this case, I meant the entire race when I said "The Black Man". I'm sure some Black women writers have written disparaging things about Garvey. And I've read plenty of them that had bad things to say about nationalism, mostly pertaining to sexism tho.

I know that YOU'RE down, babe. I'm not really talking about you.

I'm most referring to the hardcore, manhating, emaculating, cQQchie-eating type dykes out there.

There's a difference.

PS: Perhaps it's just me. But NONE of the Sex In The City women seemed especially fuhkable. Honestly, I think WOMEN were much more turned on by those chicks than men were.

Kola,

The thing is even though Black men have done all that fist pumpin', fight the power shyt they believe White men are superior.

Everything we've done, as a whole, asserts that.

All you have to do is look at what has happened here in the States, Africa, the Caribbean and Europe and that is made abundantly clear.

We could reverse the millenium. But how much are we all willing to invest?

How much are YOU willing to invest, sister.

For sure, to change history, a LOT of us would have to die.

VIOLENTLY...

Well, ABM, don't talk too soon, because there are those who are predicting and planning my violent death.

I was listening to Sam Cooke the other day, and I do think a change is going to come.

Life has a way of surprising us.

I know that I am VERY PLEASED with the way my sons are turning out and the things that come out of their mouths.

This is why I'm unable to loathe their father. He is the ABSOLUTE BEST that I could have had children with, everything I dream...he puts it in my sons for me. He is my greatest "right choice" EVER.

So I do have a lot to look forward to "at harvest, as we African poor folk say.

Did you see me on the 50 African Writer's List?

I am so proud to be from the LOWER CLASS, a very remarkable achievement on a list of Ruling Class African stock.

Sure, I'm an uneducated whore, a Hybrid corruptd by Black Americans and a witch but so what! I did the damn thing. :-)

I pray for your safety and health, sister.

And I'm happy your children have grown into what you expect and desire.

ABM, let me get this straight. To you women should never be "hardcore" and "emasculating," but you have no problem with them (women) dying "VIOLENTLY"? That sorta contradicts itself.

Tonya,

Do not cherrypick my commentary, child.

But being emasculating and hardcore are NOT synonymous with righteous violence and death.

Well it inspires one to go on, ABM.

And as I said, the African "literati", which is based in London and Berlin, has always considered me a "Hybrid corrupted by Black Americans", so it is nice to see them acknowledge my importance.

Marcus Garvey was a demagogue who met an ignoble end and left no legacy, but the NAACP is still here. That's because this organization is viable. It will always have it critics but in the long run it advances more good for blacks than it does for whites; that's its goal.

(Everybody is stunned because they don't know their history.

White people STARTED the NAACP. They ran it from the start and still run it because they SUPPORT IT WITH THEIR MONEY.

If the NAACP had to depend on black contributions they would be dead.

It exists to channel and direct black energies. The Black people are there as window dressing. WEB DuBois found this out and finally severed his ties.

THEY ARE NOT THERE TO FREE BLACK PEOPLE BUT TO KEEP THEM UNDER CONTROL.

As to Marcus Garvey's legacy, there is still a UNIA and it also lives on in The Nation of Islam, which was largely started at first by members of Garvey's organization when it fell apart (Malcolm X's father was a member and was murdered because of his activities.

Because you deal with this dead, non spiritual western society, you tend to see legacies as only things that you can touch.

There are intangibles. Though Marcus Garvey failed he did live on in the hearts of the people, where it counts.

White people and black people started the NAACP. And its black members have been milking its white patrons for money ever since. Who's the sucker here? Marcus Garvey is a tragi-comic figure in his gaudy admiral's uniform right out of "The Emperor Jones" movie that came out back in the 1920s, a loser whose legacy never reached fruition. Why? Obviously he didn't have his finger on the pulse of black America or they would've eventually amassed and left this country.

If white people fund the NAACP, regardless of the racial makeup of the membership; who is the NAACP ultimately beholden to?

Are you suggesting that the white philanthropists who contribute to this organization don't have the best interest of black people in mind? The NAACP primarily concerns itself with providing legal aid to cases involving discrimination and I don't think the people who contribute to this organization interfere with this process.

ABM:

Kola,

I just figure you wouldn't be as excited about being favorably associated with and compared to the classist, elitist African literati.

KOLA:

I hear you, ABM.

In a way, however, with so many enemies
from Black Issues Book Review refusing to
review my books...to Hueman Harlem not carrying
them...to the Nation of Islam threats and
every other reporter who is digging (8 years
strong!
) to find a way to discredit and destroy me....

...I need whatever bright spots I can be blessed
with to continue on.

Being chosen to headline at the Schomburg....

the success of my magazine article in SWEDEN (I've been asked to write 3 more) and being acknowledged by "VERY SNOBBY" literary circles in
the UK, Berlin and Brussels...really does give
a boost to my career.

Also, I'm almost NEVER written about in the
press as a "writer", it's usually my personal
life---so that alone is very gratifying.

Very recently, my good friend Chinweizu has "quoted" me in his esteemed newspaper articles...and I'm sure that Chinua Achebe probably had a hand in me
making the Top 50 List----so these are very
strategic blessings that will eventually allow
me to rise above so many who can't believe
I'm still here.

LASTLY....

Do you realize who Chris Abani is?

He's not only a personal friend of mine,
but he was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize.

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie?

She just won the ORANGE Prize a few weeks
back.

Helen Oyeyemi?

She wrote "The Icarus Girl", which was
a huge hit in the U.S. last year.

Calixthe Beyala?

Literally, the Alice Walker of France.

Helon Habila

A truly gifted writer who has been
called by TIME MAGAZINE---"the new Achebe"

ABM

Do you see now what it means for
me to be mentioned in the same company
as all these all people?

And imagine around the world--what literary
shakers and movers are noticing that I
made the list. Perhaps someone will swoop
down and help me with my struggle to be
heard.

Perhaps I can find a bigger publisher.

And also ABM....this is the very first time
that a "Black colored" Sudanese writer has
made one of these lists.

You have no idea how much mail/phone calls
I have been receiving from just Black Sudanis
who were very proud that a black HALF-CASTE
was on a list for once.

HA HA!!! :-)

I think I'm like only 1 of 3 out of the
whole 50 who has never won a major award.

I will, though.

And I am most definitely....the ONLY one
on the list who never went to college, has
no High School Diploma or G.E.D. and
who is not a teacher.

If you think of all that ABM, then being
chosen for this list....a great encouragement
that I should keep fighting for my place.

The only reason people are so against me
ABM...is because I'm not the "new" anybody,
I'm the FIRST Kola---and people fear the
unfamiliar, especially when it's loud and
so many things at once.

Then, too, I'm AMBITIOUS. And people
love that in a man...but in a woman, it's
considered demonic.

How dare she manipulate things the way a
man would to get ahead--and laugh in our
faces while doing it!

I am an exceptionally gifted writer.

I was happy to be chosen, because I truly
deserved it.

come from. Quite literally hell.

I can't stop until I make it to the top.

I just can't.
