Has anyone else watched this psychopath? My husband rented it last night and insisted I watch it with him (men don't like watching movies alone for some dang reason).

I was SHOCKED! I thought it was funny and I wasn't offended, but I still was shocked. One thing I really wondered watching this is what message black americans are sending out into the world.

There is one scene where he's in Atlanta on MLK (which is a really long stretch of a road, so he could have been anywhere from central to west Atlanta) and he meets some black neighborhood kids hanging out. He asks them to teach him how to dress and speak.

Cut to him trying to rent a room in a hotel:

He walks in with his pants hanging so that his underwear is showing and he says to the clerk:

What's up, Vanillaface? Me and my homie need a room for our black ass. Bang bang skeet skeet, niggas. It's just us two pimps, no hos.

He was very promptly told to get out or the police would be called.

I understand that there are very different classes and personalities of black people, etc., but I wonder: is this what is mostly known about black people abroad? Does anyone even realize how many black business owners are in Atlanta or that the mayor and the sherriff are black?

I know it was a comedy, but still......

(I can't believe how out of the loop you are.

One of the characters this guy does is Ali G, who is a British guy who is trying to act like a hip hop gangsta. He is totally aware that every black is not like this and was attempting to make a point that this is what lots of whites (and middle class suburban blacks) think inner city blacks act like.

Are we stereotyped? Yes we are and have been and will be as long as we live. Forty years ago he would have walked in saying "Yow-ZUH! Dats wut de man said he said Yow-ZUH!

I frankly prefer these sterotypes to the eyeball rolling coons they used to see us as. At least they won't goose these guys in the butt and ask them where they can pick up a black woman.

Good grief, Renanta. I take it you are not familiar with the literary device known as "satire".

I'm familiar with it, but this just completely shocked the hell out of me. I was so not expecting it.

Chris, I'm not really familiar with this dude. I don't watch TV. I really don't watch many movies unless my husband insist I watch one with him.

I've never been with a guy EVER who wanted to watch a movie alone. One ex used to pick me up from work when HE wanted to see a movie because he didn't want to go by himself. Hubby stopped going to the movies because I refuse to go anymore, so he'll just wait until the come out on video so he can bring it home for me to watch with him.

Chris, from a post on another thread, I know you're about my mother's age (she's 56). Maybe it's a generational difference thing.

Oh, you didn't have to post anything about Cohen....I'm not particularly interested in knowing more about him. I know he's tall. That's enough.

Whenever I want to watch a movie with a woman--I am not interested in watching the movie--if yez KNOW what I mean!

Do you have any friends or sisters? heheheheh!

Wow! Never heard of that. I don't know if it's true for all men though. I often go to the movies by myself. But I'm a very spontaneous person and I end up deciding to go to movies about 30 minutes before they start. I do it all the time. Don't have time to make a call and take someone. But I will admit, it does infuriate my female friends.

No! They think black Americans are out of control lazy violent coons. Sorry if this offends some readers but it is true. The image of black Americans is not necessarily a good one to the international community Renata. They see the same goofy hip hop thug videos, sitcoms and movies we do. We know they are bullshit ignorant media creations -they don't. I've had countless conversations in various countries with locals about these negative images of black Americans.

(That isn't the only stereotype foreigners have of black people. They see us as singers. Dancers. Athletes. Artists. Hot mammas. Bad niggers. I'm sure nobody looks as Stevie Wonder (or Michael Jackson) and sees and out of control violent coon.

Again, I ask you even if that would be true, would you rather be that, or a grinning, watermelon eating, chicken stealing idiot with a tail?)

Borat after chasing PAMmela Anderson the whole movie, ended up with the black hooker.

What message does that send? I realize it is a send-up, but I thought their romance was kinda sweet.

True. But the balance tends to fall in the negative. As I said, they don't see the law abiding, hard working black Americans (which is the majority). They see the silly trash coon culture and all it's depressing antics. In Japan, they live on a diet of thuggish rap videos and other negative Negro images. I should know -I lived there for 2 1/2 years.

As many may recall, in 1986, the then-Prime Minister of Japan, Yasuhiro Nakasone, casually mentioned to a group of journalists that large numbers of blacks (and Hispanics) were a dragging the American economy down and making it less competitive. As I recall, he also stated blacks drug down the American national IQ level. Although both racist remarks provoked an outrage in America, in Japan, it was accepted as obviously true. Some years ago, a Japanese cabinet minister congratulated the police on clearing the sex trade out of a residential neighborhood. By doing so, he likened the arrival of prostitutes to the appearance of blacks in an all-white neighborhood. These are just a few examples.

"Again, I ask you even if that would be true, would you rather be that, or a grinning, watermelon eating, chicken stealing idiot with a tail?

They believe that also.........

I don't think I watched it to the end. I kind of lost interest. No real writing, hence no poetry. I'm weird like that. He acted crazy during the movie, I just assumed he'd act crazy at the end. I may watch just the end to see it.

Renata, I think that hotel scene left me permanently scarred. I'm getting the willies just thinking about it now.

I think the movie took it relatively easy on Black folks...

Bro, I know exactly what you're talking about. That naked scene was enough to make a normal person lose sleep and their appetite for a week!!!!

As I said, they don't see the law abiding, hard working black Americans (which is the majority).

(Nobody does when they decide they want to hate on black folks. They hate on black folks and make up lies on them because they can do it and get away with it. Quit beating yourself up over this. It will never change.

They hate the hardworking black folks even worse than they do the lazy ones. Make 'em feel bad.

To quote Gene Hackman from I think it was Mississippi Burning, "If you ain't better than a who ARE you better than?" and so it goes.

many may recall, in 1986, the then-Prime Minister of Japan, Yasuhiro Nakasone, ete etc

(Ain't a damn thang you can do about it. Do you think them goddam videos are the cause? This was in 1986 BEFORE gangsta rap.

This man is educated and the head of his country. He don't give a damn about some black folks. He knows he can say all that and get away with it.

I like his comments. I can feel good about the white folks dropping them A Bombs on them at the end of WWII.
