Chris, interesting--if somewhat odd--topic. I am going to take Thumper at his word, and offer you assistance instead of ridicule, from my perspective as a researcher.
So, from my perspective, the key element to her statement was not the offer, but her product's description as "early morning." Your task, therefore, is to deconstruct that.
Personally, I am not much of an expert on the sale of this particular product. Using my knowledge of other products and vendors, I can think of two possibly useful analogies. One is bakery goods, the other, soup.
With bakery goods "early morning" connotes freshness: "fresh from the oven," "freshly baked." Thus, "early morning bakery goods" would constitute high quality product (assuming the baker was competent). Some bakers still might sell lower quality bread and bear claws and such. Under those circumstances, the ethical ones will not try to hide that fact. For example, they might advertise "Day Old Bread" and offer this less fresh product at a discounted price. Under those circumstances, it would be up to the customer to decie whether the price-freshness trade-off was worth the purchase, largely dependent upon the initial quality of the product.
Other products are more complicated. Depending on the type of soup, it is hard to say whether "early morning" would constitute better or poorer quality. For some types, soup simmered first thing in the morning would be at the peak of quality. But you would not want to purchase that same soup after it had been sitting around all day in the pot, noodles becoming soggy...film forming on the surface...ingredients congealing against the side of the pot, etc.
Other soups, however, might be at their quality peak later in the day--a good gumbo or chilli, for example. In this case "early morning" is to be avoided, and you would instead wait until later in the day to consume them, or even "day old" might be a better peak of quality for these.
So, getting back to your problem, you will have to use your knowledge of this locally available product and your local vendors offering it to determine whether an offering first thing in the morning constitutes quality and freshness. This, together with your desire for the product and the amount of money being asked for it should determine what your reaction in the future to such a question should be.
