There are books and books about the composition of haiku First of all the so-called seventeen sylable rule is false. It is supposed to be seventeen sounds-- But beyond that Haiku is supposed to involve nature To quote a popular website Traditionally haiku are rooted in natural history and the seasons, and make us co-conspirators with wildlife, as nature half-writes the haiku before we've even put pen to paper. Haiku have a seasonal clue called kigo in Japanese. Obvious season words are snow for winter; and heatwave for summer; but you could use less obvious kigo like beer for summer, and Orion or Orion's Belt for winter. To be a real haiku it must contain one of these kigo or seasonal words. They have whole books of them. Also haiku do not rhyme. You should consult the haiku master Lenard Moore. He is a black man who has studied haiku and is acknowledged as a master of the form by the Japanese. | ||
