Did anyone happen to see this particular program on the Tyra Banks Show?? And is it a true story? I didn't see it but a friend told me about a very disturbed black man who has appeared twice on her show. What happened to this young brother...?????
People have a right to believe or feel anyway they want but I think this young man needs serious counseling. IMO.
"Focus on Race: I Hate My Own Race"
Today, we revisited those feelings in another African American by the name of Lawrence. He was a 21-year-old man who considered being born Black “the worst thing ever.” He hated his appearance and never fit in with other African Americans. Although he confessed he never fit in with Caucasians either, he described himself as “a white man trapped in a Black man’s body.
As with Shelly from last season, Tyra called upon special effects makeup artist, Todd Tucker, to turn Lawrence into a Caucasian person for the day. When Tucker started to apply beige cosmetics to Lawrence’s skin, he became excited and exclaimed, “I’m finally white,” and said he looked like, “A real person!” Once the transformation was complete, Lawrence walked the streets of Beverly Hills to see how different his life would be. As he strolled by other pedestrians, his demeanor was much more enthusiastic than it was during the interview. Lawrence called the day “empowering” and said he felt a confidence that previously eluded him. When the day came to a close, he dreaded removing the makeup and started to cry as he rubbed a towel over his skin.

Well, episodes like these is one of the reasons I find Tyra to be nauseating. Dressing him up in whiteface did not solve anything, and I doubt Tyra did not adress the real reasons (and its meaning). I mean, its only so much you can fit on a lines card. |

Tyra has done the rest of us a favor! She has made it alright for these people to identify themselves. Next step: form their own union. Let these people get a name---(since they do not like to be called niggers)---and then an identity, and then hopefully they'll feel comfortable moving away from the Black race!!

LOL actually Tonya, I hardly think we'd have to worry about people like this considering themselves or relating to black people. Chances are he has no black friends, doesn't live in a black neighborhood, and won't be marrying a black woman, and MORE THAN THAT, won't ever WANT TO. I don't even feel any kind of anger against him....I just thank goodness he won't be an option for black women who will need a proud man who loves himself and their children.

This is so sad and I think that the root cause of this problem needs to be discovered and dealt with. I have no idea on what the 'root cause' may or may not be. Could be what the young man sees in the media, or maybe unfortunate people he has met and was stupid enough to stereotype a whole group because of that.
I really think this man will end up doing something dangerous to himself because, it is an old cliche, but he doesn't love himself. How can he hate all black people and look in the mirror and like himself? |

I’ve ran down dark back alleys to chase down suspects and physically apprehend them, I’ve been in countless brawls and one on one take downs in order to restrain, cuff or disarm men. Okay!! Well for starters what about the degrading images that you posted of morbidly obese Black women? The degrading images of Black womens hair and features that you have posted. The "hate-filled" condemnation/and "harsh" generalizations of Black women dispositions and dress.
The hatefilled "quotes" that you and your friends have expressed of Black women. Including the "hate-filled" quotes that you "laughingly" posted to Kola about your co-workers male cousins who expressed their extreme disdain for Black women.

The pictures were sent to me by a black woman. I just posted it for conversation and opinion. I never made one negative comment about the weight or size of those black women in the picture. Perhaps you may be somewhat sensitive about this subject?

How were they degrading? I never said they were degrading –you did! It sounds like you are fostering your own sensitivities and insecurities on me. I NEVER MADE A NEGATIVE COMMENT ABOUT THOSE WOMEN IN THE TWO PICTURES! The pictures were exactly what they were. It had nothing to do with me. You decided they were negative –again, I never suggested nor said anything negative about them. You decided they were negative –not me!

And? You seem to forget an extremely important point here SS, people who post in this forum are entitled to their opinions whether you agree or not. Why do you take an individuals opinion or preference so personal??? Everyone is entitled to express their opinions and individual tastes. Why can you not except this?

First of all, we have been over this before. I will repeat my challenged to you (again!): Provide one post where I unfairly or harshly denigrated black women as a group! Secondly, if I posted something that someone else said, that is their opinion. Just as you are entitled to your opinions, they are entitled to theirs. There is no written law stating that everyone must agree with what you believe or compliment your personal preferences. You need to understand this.

Once again, that is their opinions and their experiences –not mine! SS, have you ever thought about the outrageous over reactions and vicious preemptive personal attacks you have made against people on this board? To be exact, there are three male posters (and you know who they are) you are in constant conflict with. You have used unwarranted obscenities, accusing them of being homosexuals (explain that!), making extremely crude sexual remarks and becoming hysterical at the very idea that they dared to post anything –regardless of the innocuous nature of the post. Why? You went as far as to make some very ridiculously offensive remarks about one posters wife and daughters! WTF..??!! What’s that all about?

I do not condemn nor criticize anyone for being poor or socioeconomically disadvantaged. I came from a somewhat impoverished background. So I am more than experienced and qualified to talk about what is like to be poor. I did not have father (my parents divorced when I was a small child) nor did I have the financial privileges and perks that many kids had. So you have never heard me castigate anyone for being lower-class (as you have falsely accused me).
What you hear me criticize is reckless and irresponsible behavior. That is totally different. I have no tolerance for people blaming society for their misfortunes when the dilemmas they find themselves in are a direct result of their own poor personal decisions and glaring negligence. It’s the pathological and inexcusable behavior I rail about -not their economic misfortune. Two different things.
