If we are criticized and blamed for Imus because we use the word "Ho" or n*gga or whatever--

Are not women to blame for their use of b**ch?

Women are using this word and even referring to themselves as b**ches with pride.

Isn't this a double standard?

I can't speak for other women, but when I use the word, I MEAN IT in a derogatory way and it usually means something akin to "somebody get my baby because I'm about to kill this bytch."

And I honestly don't know ANYONE who use this word with pride in referring to someone. If I hear a friend using the word, they're telling me of someone they really hate. (And most of my friends I have NEVER heard use the word at all.)

No woman has called me this unless we were in some serious argument (and didn't know each other). FRIENDS have never called me that even during an argument.

I don't know what kind of psycho bytches you're hanging around.

If a woman is called a b i t c h, it's because she has pushed somebody's buttons and this is a form of power. Which is why some women refer to themselves as being bitches because they know they got it like that!

Here's my question: why is b i t c h heard all over the tv but b a s t a r d isn't?

Yes, technically the 2nd word can be used to mean both men and women but usually it's meant to refer to a [dirty wrong doing] man.

I have heard beyotch used as both a derogatory and an affirmative way. And, yes, IF we should be criticized for using the n-word and ho, then we should too be criticized, including black women, for calling black women bitches. It slanders black women, and feeds into the stereotype that they are female dogs.

I am sure little girls are running home to their parents and loved pissed, because another girl or boy called them a beyotch. I think we need to ban MC Lyte [i think], lil kim, Salt and Pepper, and all of the hip hop artists, men and women, that used the word in their lyrics.

We should also ban Common, the black church, EastWest, and others because of their homophobia.

We are responsible for establishing the precedents of self-hate for white people, through our own misogyny, colorism, classism, homophobia, and finally hetereophobia within our own community. White folk get all of this from us. And when we do it it is the same was white people doing it to us...because that little boy who is called hetereosexual by a gay boy or girl is pissed, crying, and the like; that little boy who is called a bastard by a little girl is pissed and walking home crying.....we are just really fucked up, aren't we?

"Women are using this word and even referring to themselves as b**ches with pride.
Isn't this a double standard?"

Of course! Interesting you brought this subject up. I had this exact conversation two days ago with a female friend and she openly acknowledged the existence of the double standard. In the past, when the word slipped out my mouth, I was ruthlessly chastised on the spot for doing so by women. Ok, fine. Yet every single one of those women, when in anger, would indiscriminately refer to their female nemesis or tormentor as a b*tch!! They would rail away using the "b" word with heated passion and fire.

I've seen women screaming at other women in anger, wielding the "b" word like a knife in combat (saw it last night on that show that is an extension of Flavor Flavs show that features all those ignorant ass self degrading hoochies). I cannot tell you how many women I have personally heard refer to other women (usually in anger) as, ".... that fuckin' b*tch", "I can't stand that b*tch", "The next time that b*tch......", etc, etc. Yet these same women (all of them) wanted to claw my eyes for inadvertently using the word (yes, I was being bad). I'm sure all the honest women who frequent this board will roger up and acknowledge there is a clear double standard when using the "b" word. Same goes for Negroes and their shameless double standard of the "n" word. Both contradictory rules are capricious but ruthlessly enforced.

You just proved my point....in ANGER. And if a woman were to call me that, I'd be just as angered as when a man called me that.

I think that women don't say much about guys saying it, because they're afraid if they don't know the guy. When men haved called me that, they're usually in a group. They don't seem to say it so much when they're alone. Cowards.

To the OP netargro: If you would familiarize yourself with the English language, then you would know that the b-itch word is commonly used and can pertain to men, women, objects and events. It can be both positive and negative.

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/b-itch
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=b-itch
(please note that the above links will not work unless you remove the hypen from the b-itch word)

So the answer would be "NO," there is no double standard when it comes to the b-itch word. It is unique and cannot be compared to ho, , bastard, or whatever.

Got that, b-itch???

This concludes your vocabuberry lesson for the day.

And, technically, bastard is not strictly a "masculine" noun; it is a term for an illegitimate child(born out of wedlock). Queen Elizabeth, the first, was considered the bastard daughter of King Henry VIII by the Catholic church. I don't think it's nearly as bad to be called a b i t c h by a woman as by a man. I have occasionally referred to myself as "super b i t c h" and doing this can be a form of bragging. Just my personal take on this subject

"And, technically, bastard is not strictly a "masculine" noun; it is a term for an illegitimate child(born out of wedlock)."

This is true but I have to be honest, Ive never heard a woman referred to as a bastard by another woman. Ha! Ha! Ha! But I've always thought referring to children born out of wedlock as bastards was cruel and degrading. As if they had a choice in the manner in which they were conceived.

"Queen Elizabeth, the first, was considered the bastard daughter of King Henry VIII by the Catholic church. I don't think it's nearly as bad to be called a b i t c h by a woman as by a man."

I think it is unnecessary to refer to any person whose parents weren't to married as bastards. Something about that word when used in the particular context that you mentioned, is dehumanizing. IMO. That would technically mean that almost 70% of all black children currently being born would be bastards. I don't think such categorizing that would go over well socially today.

I have occasionally referred to myself as "super b i t c h" and doing this can be a form of bragging. Just my personal take on this subject

Naw, not you Cynique. Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! But you know Betty Davis once said, "I know I'm a b*tch. But I can't help myself".

"You just proved my point....in ANGER."

Oh, without a doubt. Every time I heard the word used by women when referring to another woman, was in anger or frustration. But I do know the double standard was enforced if I used the word in any context. As I previously stated, women who have gratuitously used the word would immediately put me in check in for doing the same. I mean they would halt the conversation and give me tongue lashing for referring to women with such language.

"And if a woman were to call me that, I'd be just as angered as when a man called me that."

I'm sure you would! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!

I don't really have a problem with women calling each other stuff they'd rather men not call them (Like I don't have problem with Blacks, Irish or Jews calling each other stuff they'd rather foks who are not within their group calling them.). But I believe where it becomes problematic is when when we attribute such evil to a man calling a woman a b*tch. That's what really incite cries of their being unfair doublestandards.

It's hard to take chrishayden serious because too often in his posts, he goes from point "b" to point "c" and skips over point "a", failing to put things in context or put quotes around other's people's words when he is disputing them. This was the case in his response to Yukio's comments and chris' habit of doing this is the mark of someone whose thinking is linear, whose thought pattern has no peripheral vision. Not only does chrishayden assume everybody has his quixotic mind-set, but he finds it inconceivable that everyone doesn't share his perspective. He is totally subjective and wants to be the sheep dog of a herd mentality. Yukio provides an over view and is not ruled by his emotions. LMAO Ol chris will have a field day with my opinion on this subject.

Bastard can also refer to a combination/compiliation of odds and ends/this and that, as in: English is a bastard language.

I went with my cousin not long ago to take her dog to the vet. The vet kept referring to her dog as "the b/tch". And I mean he was just talking casually, like "b/tch" didn't have any other connotations. It was pretty funny. How often does the b/tch eat? How many times per day does the b/tch urinate and pass stool? Is the b/tch house broken? <--- I had to walk out the office on that last one. I couldn't stop laughing.

"I think it is a double-standard, and I can't stand to hear women used the word in jest --like it's a term of endearment or something! It's disgusting and sounds disgusting."

Of course it is a double standard. I talked to two female friends of mine yesterday and they both agreed it was. And they both were very adamant about it being OK for women to address each other with the "b" word whether in endearment or anger, but not men!! They felt it took on a different connotation when men referred to women with the "b" word. I just laughed. As I stated before, it's identical to Negroes hypocrisy and the "n" word.
