Troy,

If it's within your ability and budgeting, would it be possible for you to install a feature on Thumper's Corner that allows one poster to visually IGNORE he postings of those posters they choose NOT to be bothered with. Because, frankly, I'm personally getting fed up with having to read the postings of certain foks here who are essentially SPAMMING this site with redundant insults, lies, baseless/boring rumors and innuendo.

I believe if you did THIS, you MIGHT be able to reduce much of this BVLLSH*T that YOU are being sucked into. Plus, there may be a byproduct benefit of LESSENING the extent to which the site is laden with innane graphics/pictures which I'M SURE you'd rather NOT clog up (and possibly even CRASH) the system.

Know you've probably got better things to do, bruh. But given what has been going on here (for AWHILE now) I figure that this is something you might REALLY want to mull over.

Why not just not read and/or respond to those you wish to ignore? No one is forcing anyone to read and/or respond to another person's posting. If you wish to not participate in any discussion, then don't.

Jmho,

I actually agree with you. And for the most part, I've had NO problem just ignoring some foks (An interested observer of my presense here can quite easy divine those whom I do NOT correspond with). This isn't really about just what I think/want, per se.

Rather, the problem I see is that because the board is getting surfeited with myriad, redundant, anormous postings with all kinds of innane insults demeaning graphics, pictures and sh*t; it's degrading the overall quality of this site.

I believe most who've been around here, say, +3 years can CLEARLY see the difference.

And, in case you don't already know it, Troy has (in part for the reasons I have cited) ALREADY hinted at pulling the plug on Thumper's Corner.

So what I see potentially coming is the demise of Thumper's Corner. And I've ofter my opinion about how that might be prevented.

Chris,

See. I'm not for banning foks. And I even wince at deleting posts.

Sure, Troy has every right to do those. And I won't sweat him for it.

But perhaps what I've proffered above is a way to address some of the problems here sans Troy having to go Internet Gestapo.

To The OP:

Since you've been here so long and claim to have some sort of "seniority," why don't you put a little more thought into your own posts, contribute something relevant and meaningful, set the example for the rest of us, and stop with the inane sexist and demeaning posts that you consistently litter this forum with:

ABM is one of my favorite posters. I have not read a single post of his that I have ever considered deleting.

My impressions of ABM's posts are a matter of opinion, however erudite (smile), it is just my opinion. My opinion of ABM's posts however can help you understand posts that I do not find problematic. That same applies to Chris Hayden’s posts; I may often disagree with him but I have never considered deleting any of his posts. The VAST majority of posters fall into this category.

I also realize that while I manage, own, and pay for this board. In a very basic sense it not my the board. I can not host a discussion board all by myself, actually I could, but that would be a blog. However, I find these discussion boards much more engaging, entertaining and informative than the often over-hyped Blog (besides all of the really popular Blogs are what I used to call a web site).

There is no board without posters. As a result, I have a very high tolerance and respect for the time and effort posters expend here. I want to cater to posters needs but and the same time this is not an environment where anything goes.

This board started out as a vehicle to discuss books that were currently on our on-line book clubs reading list (http://thumperscorner.com/Reading_List.htm). However it, very quickly, morphed into something I had not anticipated -- and I consider that a good thing, a really good thing.

Obviously I’m not alone. Thousands of people visit thumpers corner each day.

I have no intention of pulling the plug on TC. If TC dies it will be because the Posters chose not to post here any more (or I ban every one first)

I also do not like deleting posts. I went years before I ever deleted one. The past year I’ve deleted more posts than I’ve made.

Also, over the past year I started getting more phone calls and emails from people complaining about something that happened on this board and imploring me to do something about it. Dealing with these issues is a drain for me. I do not have a lot of free time or energy to expend dealing with these issues. So I will go back to my brute force approach: I will ban users or delete posts as I see fit and as I encounter them. There will be no discussion about it and no repeal of a ban.

I hate the heavy handed approach but I do not have the luxury of time. If the board had a full time moderator things would be different; but it does not (in this regard I agree with Chris Hayden)

I’m for freedom of expression but there is too much noise on the board now.

Do not ask me to define the what I consider noise, but I know it when I read it, or see it. Remember noise is my opinion, so I do not expect everyone to agree – even if I could clearly define it. However I think most of the long term posters know what I mean.

I can say this: Posts with naked men and women will be deleted (including the one with that dude with the erect penis protruding through his spandex pants). If you need to post pornography post a link.

I will also ban posters who deliberately out or impersonate another poster.

I appreciate the suggestions

Some people like to make posts with extra large letter or post big pictures this are hard to ignore. So while ignoring a poster you do not like is usually sufficient, but the visually prominent posts I find very distracting. Sometimes posters can be very diligent making them tough to ignore.

Troy: "Some people like to make posts with extra large letter or post big pictures this are hard to ignore. That's kinda where I'm coming from too. It's one thing to express your opinion. But why do foks have to be so got dayam egotistical that they make hell for other foks to AVOID seeing their sh*t?

I've mistakenly MISSED responding to some foks while trying to avoid some of foks GARGANTUAN posts.

It's not just so much about about ignoring somebody. It's HOW you can ignore mofo's posting sh*t that's about to CRASH your frickin' laptop???

Thanks for ensuring us (or at least me) the site is not at risk.

And thanks for the props, bruh. You know I love you as much a one straight Black man has a right to love another one on the Internet.

I wish you would also stop kola's practice of posting pictures of people saying that they are me, Troy. It was bad enough that she splashed my real picture all over the board before and now she's resorted to misrepresenting me in pictures of people who are not me.
This board represents a broad spectrum of people with varying opinions and I'm sure you will concur with the idea that we don't all have to like each other. It should also be noted that the tendency here is to fight fire with fire. The current political scene lends itself to a lot passion and ridicule. But that's life. People do have the option to defend themselves from attacks. All this requires is gumption. heh-heh.

Ding ding ding. Large fonts don't cause computers to crash. And if the large fonts weren't permissible, then they wouldn't be part of the BBCode (that's bulletin board code for the uninitiated). And ding ding ding - the BBCode only allows the fonts to go up to a certain size. And since you don't approve of large fonts, why don't YOU stop using them. Ding ding ding!!!

What I like about Troy is he's a fair reasonable guy. And when he's not being fair or reasonable he has a conscious that can be appealed to, no matter how unreasonable we might be when appealing to that conscious sometimes...lolol.

It takes a special kind of person to be this way.

I trust he'll make the right decisions.

Actually, how can an "ignore" feature be applied to a message board ? It can work for instant messaging but for a message board ? I think the best way to handle certain issues pertaning to the board is to employ a moderator. But that would take monetary resources. So who knows maybe in the near future.

How can it be applied to a public forum ? Will the message board "black out" a poster's message when they post by your reguest ? I know it works for instant messaging and email(block email addresses) but a message board ?

When you put a person on ignore, you won't see any of their posts at all inside a thread. It's like they don't even exist.

But if the person you put on ignore decides to post a topic, you'll be able to see the thread heading in the forum, but what is written inside will be edited

Oh I see. So I guess it detects that specific poster's IP address. But then there's loopholes to that too, cause you can always go to another computer if one is desperate for a particular poster to see their message ? Unless, the software goes by user name and password log in, but then what if one posts anonymously ? Well, I guess anything is better than nothing.

EXCELLENT POSTS ABM and TROY.
:-)

And Jackie---an "ignore" feature could work very easily on this board, not to mention they're extremely efficient.

The person's "ACCOUNT" is on ignore, so it doesn't matter where they post from.

I agree with ABM 100% that this would make the board vastly more popular as SOME OF US...people like ABM, Dahomeyahosi, Tonya, GRIND, Misty, Brownbeauty, Yukio.....could focus our energies more "intellectually" and "seriously" explore issues without the constant hard feelings.

IN MY CASE...

I find myself constantly on the DEFENSE, because I can't post "MY OPINION" to ABM or Tonya without the ever-hating Mzuri aka Lil_ze, Cynique and others jumping into my conversations with a whole littany of "Kola's a liar/why we hate Kola"---PERSON VICIOUSNESS that has nothing to do with the issue at hand----and then, because I AM such a fighter, I start throwing their shit back at them and giving out as good as I get, but still...it's tiresome.

I would LOVE to see the IGNORE feature for just this reason. I could finally enjoy the kind of discussions on this board that I already have with Derrick Bell or Molefi Asante in "EMAILS".

Recently, I've been conversing with a White Woman Professor from South Africa who is teaching my books in Johannesburgh, and though we started off not liking each other, we've become "email buddies"---debating and sorting through all manner of topics and having some real deep explorations of issues in ways they've never been discussed before.

This board could certainly go that route if we could CUT OUT the un-stoppable WAR/Feud that exists between me and the people who hate me----and as I've already explain to TROY, none of the people feuding are EVER going to get along, so it's better if we don't mesh at all.

AND TO URBAN SCRIBE who "mistakenly" thought I was BANNED...or was going to be. You can forget that shit.

Kola will only be banned from here when she's READY TO...and I don't see myself wanting to CUSS Troy's ass out no time soon, so I WILL NOT BE BANNED AGAIN. If you don't see me--it's because I'm sick of the B.S.

To The OP: If you're so adamant about wanting an ignore feature added to this forum, then why don't you contribute some funds to Troy to make that happen. That's what I would do if I felt it was necessary. Put your money where your mouth is or shove your head back up your ass like you've been doing.

And To Kola Spoof:

You are a confirmed and documented L-I-A-R and it's you who started all the garbage on this forum with the various posters whom you now claim "hate you." You brought this on your own self with all your nasty insults, incessant name calling, posting taunting pix of people to be spiteful and mean, threatening, harrassing and bullying people because you feel the need to be some sort of forum "drama queen." As usual, you are delusional. You are no fighter, you are a petty, weak, lame, attention seeking cry baby and you need to put a sock in it.

You won't be banned until you're ready? Silly ! You just got off of a ban for being a L-I-A-R. Did you forget already??? And according to Troy, he'll ban whomever starts the sort of threads that you started against me yesterday:

http://www.thumperscorner.com/cgi/discus/show.cgi?tpc=179&post=92259#POST92259

And again, if I am posting as Lil Z (or anyone else) then prove it or STFU.

Everyone, forget the ignore feature it is not an option with this software.

Kola watch the large fonts you are going to blow up ABM's laptop.

Seriously larger font don't help make your point. I know you are different and can't help it, but it is like reading someone who writes in all capitals -- you don't know if they are screaming, simply don't know any better, or if they are just crying for attention. Use your languange skills.

Kola, why would you say "so I WILL NOT BE BANNED AGAIN." when you know I can very easily delete you account and ban you. With very little effort. Are you really trying to "draw me out again".

Kola, you really don't get it; You are not making me angry you are just wasting my time lately. I can eaisly ignore you. But at this point, based upon feedback, it seems like you are doing the board more harm than good. This is independent of what I think.

I care more about the board than any single individual poster on it. The board is bigger than you, or I or even Thumper. The board is about all of the posters and even the lurkers. I'm trying to make it confortable for the majority of people not just provide a platform for Kola Boof. You can start your own board and post all the pornographic stuff you want. In reality you may actually be better off.

More people like porn than books and politics.

In fact, to make a point and to really find out how people feel. I will do something you may actually make like. I will start another thread. Called "Should Kola Boof be banned". I will give posters an chance to say yeah or nay. If more people say "ban her"; I will indeed ban you.

The beauty of this is that the board can really make the decision not me.

If people really want you around they can tell us.

Of course if the votes turns out to be in favor of your staying I always reserve the right to ban you anyway.

Peace

Schakspir: People would believe you more if you didn't spend so much time trying to stretch the truth into these fantastic shapes. Anybody who has read your work has seen the typos and bad grammar and childish emotional explosions, etc. Why on earth serious writers like Chinwezu or Derrick Bell would take you seriously is completely beyond me--oh, I forgot. You're just lying your arse off.

Kola does take liberties with the truth and always portrays herself as the victim. And I don't know what intelligent conversations she is having that I am interrupting, unless she calls seducing ABM an example of her brilliance. I know I am a provocateur but we can't all be goodie 2-shoes. At least I don't look for special dispensations. I can stand the heat so I stay in the kitchen. There are strait-laced posters here who atone for my "sins", and it all balances out.

please!!! Didn't Kola have an entire forum called The Kool Room that she could have used to engage in these "private" conversations that she didn't want anyone else to butt into? But she left that abandoned, right? So she has a lot of nerve claiming people jumped into "her" conversations, as if this isn't a public forum. And Kola - if you don't want ppl to call you a L-I-A-R, then S-T-O-P-L-Y-I-N-G!!! It's not rocket science!!!
