Hail To The Chief Madam President Speaks!!!

HILL: I'M THE JFK OF 2008
By MAGGIE HABERMAN
March 11, 2007

NASHUA, N.H. - Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton invoked the campaign of the nation's lone Catholic president, John Kennedy, last night as she talked about her challenge in becoming the first female commander-in-chief.

"He was smart, he was dynamic, he was inspiring and he was Catholic. A lot of people back then [1960] said, 'America will never elect a Catholic as president,' " the White House hopeful told the New Hampshire Democrats' 100 Club fund-raiser here.

"But those who gathered here almost a half century ago knew better," she said. "They believed America was bigger than that and Americans would give Sen. John F. Kennedy a fair shake, and the rest, as they say, is history."

Noting women are "the majority" of voters and are in the workforce in "record numbers," she added, "So when people tell me 'a woman can never be president,' I say, we'll never know unless we try."

Kennedy's name is most often invoked by supporters of Clinton's main Democratic rival, Sen. Barack Obama, usually comparing their charisma.

Clinton also rapped the White House, accusing President Bush of creating "invisible Americans" across the country.

"We no longer have a president who puts people first," she said, citing veterans waiting for treatment, first responders, single moms needing child care, the middle class and the working poor. "You are invisible to this administration."

Earlier, at a stop at the Swan Chocolate shop in Nashua, Clinton defended her support for a senate resolution for a potential March 2008 end date to the Iraq war.

"What we have done now is to set a goal, a goal to try to move the president to understand what needs to be done in order to change the mission in Iraq and begin to bring our troops home," said Clinton, who's been criticized for her vote authorizing force in Iraq in 2002.

"I see this as absolutely consistent with what many of us are trying to do which is to reign in the president and prevent the escalation of troops that he is pursuing. We hope it will work."

Also yesterday, the Democratic White House front-runner had a private meeting with Gov. John Lynch and well-known former state Sen. Mary Louise Hancock in Concord.

Mzuri, it is interesting: I have read a couple of feminist web sites where folks seem to be having similar questions about Clinton that we have been having about Obama. (Here's one: http://blogher.org/node/16473) Guess it's hard out here for a non-White-male candidate! LOL

Invoking the name of JFK or MLK when trying to reinforce an idea used to be a sure fire way to make critics acquiesce. But people are increasingly starting to see through this ploy. Which ever candidate emerges victorious from the Democratic convention will really be battle-scarred.

More evidence that women aren't monolithic in their philosophies. Btw, neither are Blacks. LOL!!

Tonya,

There's a HUGE difference in being
"monolithic" and being "unfair".

I've stated 10 times in a single day
that I can totally respect your choice
to support a candidate other than Barack.

What pisses me off is the way you keep
"demeaning" him as a person and giving the
Okeydoke to SMEAR TACTICS that are reserved
for him and not the other candidates.

You even spread and "co-sign" the dirt.

You're not being intelligent or reasonable
--you're being hateful and there's
some underlying personal reason for it that
only you know---but for those of us who do
support him and encourage you to support
Hillary who whoever--it's totally unfair.

And I'm sorry, but black folks should never
support the Smear Campaigns of White Folks
against blacks.

Obama is no more crooked or unprofessional
that John Edson or Hillary Clinton or Bill
Clinton.

And the bottom line is---no matter who
gets in the white house, it won't significantly
help or change YOUR lifestyle.

In that you can trust and believe.

I have previously noted that Obama slammers are entitled to equal time since this board is rife with hatred for Hillary Clinton. Certainly everybody is entitled to voice their legitimate doubts about either candidate. And furthermore, if Obama as president won't exact a significant change in the lives of black folks then why should his blackness be a factor in voting for him? Why do his backers demand black loyalty to him when he can't guaranteed a reward for such allegiance.

I endorsed Hillary Clinton in my autobiography, Cynique.

I don't hate her.

But now that Obama's running--I like him better.

And the reason is because, he cares more about POOR PEOPLE than Hillary could ever pretend to.

As he wrote in his autobiography---he's a man for the Underdogs, and his life bears that out.

Ko;a,

What pisses me off is you seem to think I care that you're pissed off about this - get it?

As I wrote to you earlier on another thread, I don’t care that you don't like my tone on Obama.

And so my "Some Coke and a Smokefor Barack Obama" thread WASN'T a slam on Obama. It was a bash on those who seem to think I won't "bash" whoever I want and whenever I want to. So some folks weren't SUPPOSED to like it - that was the plan.

Contrary to what you think, kola, you are not the only one on this board who makes an impression. There are others who post here who do not like Hillary Clinton. And Tonya's right. Nobody here has to be anointed with your approval. If you don't like what is said then go take a flying leap.

Yeah, but don't claim to have "integrity" about these proceedings if you're that PETTY.

I mean this is all personal with you, it's really not about OBAMA or the campaign.

Have you noticed?

Uhn.

I don't get it. We've been having passionate discussions re: Obama for some time now. No one else thinks it’s personal (I hope).

You JUST SAID it's personal, Tonya.

You just said you posted Smear Articles to upset other people---and part of your disgust for Obama is that ABM and other sexists and elitists like him.

We can all read between the lines that you've
been posting for weeks.

You aren't waiting to make up your mind about the candidates----LOL!!!! :-)----all you do is TRASH one certain candidate.

I can honestly say that I have supported ALL the candidates for the Democratic ticket.

I know what each one is about, and Obama will be for the POOR and the "underdog" before Hillary---and he wrote that in his autobiography, that those are who his "HEART" is with.

Of course after traveling to Kenya and seeing the poverty of his family...how could he not feel that way???

Kola, you can go on and on speculating all you like. The fact is I don't care what you or anyone here thinks about a candidate or sexism even. I mean I enjoy everyone's opinions and we get into heated debates sometimes but the fact that ABM is sexist doesn’t make me lose sleep at night; and your support for ALL the candidates or NONE of the candidates, either way it's totally fine, REALLY. I enjoy your opinions and I hope you enjoy mine... If not, no biggie.

No. I said I posted that ONE THREAD to let you know that I don't care whether you're pissed off with my tone on Obama.

That's precisely what I said and it was very forthright... no need to "read between the lines".

LOL!!! :-)

Miss Tonya "WHOMEVER" you support...I will support you in that.

Just know that now.

If you came to my house and said "Kola, I do not eat shrimp, girl"....I am not going to feed you shrimp against your will.

I would fix you something you really like so that down the road you will tell people, "Say what you will about Kola, but she's a jamm'n hostess and makes good food."

That's what friends are for.

I'm not against your choice, sis AT ALL. Whatever it is. :-)

You like shrimp!

Girl, I KNOW we will get along good then! LOL!!!

Shit. I will drive 47 miles to the pier and get everything fresh if I got me somebody to eat seafood with.

Tonya, I don't know what's wrong with these new people that don't eat nothing normal.

I love lobster, shrimp and crab---and can never find anyone to eat it with me.

AND YOU KNOW...it's hard to pick crabs and enjoy it by yourself.

Crab is my favorite seafood. I used to eat tons of shrimp until it was brought to my attention about their little legs. LOL ! Now I can only eat about two shrimp before I lose my appetite. I starting thinking about what shrimp are and those tiny legs and stuff then I can't eat anymore....

LOL!!!! Tonya, you're lucky.

I still have to finish the end (at last) of "Virgins In the Beehive". It goes to the publisher tomorrow.

I've been laboring with it.

You may remember the "book title" but I completely re-wrote the story from scratch--it's now a pop novel.

Jackie, I need to drive out to Long Beach and pick your behind up and make you come stay with me. LMAO!!!!! :-)

I love me some crabs, too.

And I don't care how many legs Shrimp got--I eat shrimp in everything!

Just made fried corn in a skillet (pour off water/use dab of olive oil, butter)...with shrimp, tomatoes, bell pepper and egg stirred in for lunch today---when the egg is done, it's done (real easy).

Well, shit it's 12 midnight now. I'm hungry, but too lazy to go fix anything---and got too much writing to do tonight.
