Although it's killed me, One thing I've had to STOP doing.... ...is telling young black women not to date out of their race.  It's now to the point where Statistically it's impossible for a huge number of black girls to expect to pair with black males. The Black men have created a situation where black women will have to be paired BY DEFAULT to Non-Black men.  One only has to look at this board where the Black Men (including ABM) consistently post photos of Non-Black women and comment on how "fuckable" they are, how beautiful and how they'd like this one and that one. The overwhelming majority of photos posted here by men are of Non-black women....and that's a very loud message. NOTICE NONE OF THEM FOUND THIS GIRL:  AND NOTICE THAT WILL SMITH, TAYE DIGGS AND NONE OF THE OTHER "MOVIE STARS" WITH CLOUT, INCLUDING "DENZEL", THINK OF CASTING A CHOCOLATE "BOMBSHELL" LIKE THAT ONE----WHEN IT COMES TO CASTING A "HOT BEAUTY" AS THE LOVE INTEREST. They can only think of "Eva Mendes" or "Charlize Theron" (Will's lover in his next film). We have never had a film that featured a "BLACK SEX BOMB".  IF BLACK MEN MAKE A MOVIE ABOUT A "BLACK WOMAN"---SHE'S "FAT" OR SHE'S BIRACIAL OR HIGH YELLOW OR SHE'S A DARKSKINNED EVIL BI-TCH. ****They don't expect us to be bitter or "affected" by this---because after all it's not WHITE MEN doing this to us---it's them, BLACK MEN, so we're supposed to be OK with it. We're not supposed to "HATE THEM" as we would WHITE MEN for having the same racial prejudices against us---because---we're not "human beings", we're black women******* Notice the "ease" that Chris Hayden posted about a friend and himself musing over Ugly Betty. Black women would be "traitors" and "bedwenches" for even entertaining the thought of "skipping over" all the eligible black men to appraise two white men. And though some Black men (like ABM) deny that fact and claim that there is no special pressure on BW to remain "faithful" (*because let's not forget they "wanted it" during slavery days and need to pay for that for eternity)---what the real deal is.....is that these men believe that Black women CAN'T get anything other than what scraps black men offer--and so they delight in their being "desired" by Non-black women and inflict punishment and neglect on black women out of the feeling that they're entitled to look down on her, because after all, she's the lowest on the food chain and what can she do about it anyway? This is why...so many "hurtful", "disrespectful" comments are posted on this board and the men don't even realize the depth of what they're saying, or what it means in a historical context, BECAUSE---we're only black women, we're not going anywhere--and who cares about a Black woman's PRIDE anyway? Some of the women here try to retaliate, but it goes over the men's heads. More and more, it's clear that black women are being FOOLISH to cling to our global community's edict that a black woman should be ONLY interested in black men, Exclusively. So many white/non-black women such as MOONSIGNS, who basically comes to this board to feel better about herself and to wallow in Black women's pain over this issue----do not realize that Black women are raised this way, to be "intensely" sensitive about Racial History ("the white man raped you, therefore you don't have the right to be happy ever again with either race of men"), and therefore white women don't understand when black girls find it very difficult to have the freedom to date interracially without the STIGMA and HATRED that will be issued by black society against them as she (a black girl) is not "PRIZED" by her fathers, uncles, brothers....the way that white women (by virtue of being white) are Prized. For years, you've all noticed how MOONSIGNS is not intelligent enough to grasp and understand that tiny detail. The truth is that BLACK MEN have created a cultural "hatred" towards Black women that is passed on to black boys via the ART (magazines, videos, movies) that BLACK MEN create and through the stereotypes and lies that Black men (and society in general) perpetuate against Black women. So it's ridiculous for me to keep preaching to young black girls that if they just love themselves---they can expect to find a black man who will love them, too.  The reality is that Black girls will outnumber the pool of eligible black males by 6 to 1, and it is likely that THAT "1" who has 6 black girls to choose from will very often have a "no black girls" policy. So where does that leave young lovesick black girls? But of course, according to films that BLACK MEN make like "NORBIT".....young sweet lovesick black girls don't exist. And accordingly---"biracial" girls will be the only bastion of "acceptable" black girls in the pool, because....they're half-white. But still, even they will find it hard to get a good black man. At the core of all this is the Black man's self-hatred...his feeling that he's been defeated by his invaders (which is true), and that he must now save face by escaping from his Natural Wife and his Natural children by becoming....Non-black. And though he will never admit it, the true reason that he finds fault in everything about a black woman----is only because she's black. Plenty of NORBITS love and cherish FAT, FUNKY UGLY ASS White women.....BITCHY EVIL white women.....they LOVE a Golddigger if she's WHITE.  Black Man's WIFE So NONE OF THAT is why they pass over Black women. They pass over Black women, because BLACK WOMEN....will make you black.     AMAZINGLY...only 3% of WHITE AMERICANS co-habitate/marry out of their race. That's because there are 200 million of them...and only 38 million blacks. There's also 40 million LATINOS. These numbers explain "WHY" the people of other groups can't understand the "loss" that so many Black Women feel in knowing that our children will no longer be black babies. 27% of our people co-habitate/marry outside of our race. Black women IR are GROWING "faster" than the Black men rate for the first time.  "Kola Boof has done it too, plenty"---Black Men. For those here who are NOT AFRICANS, you simply have no concept of how painful it is for me---an African mother---to watch the "genetic" destruction of MY PEOPLE.  To many Black Americans---Mariah Carey is "black"---so that right there explains why they don't care about the ERASURE of black children from the landscape. And of course you have people here who call themselves "black", but aren't really a part of our race---Cynique/Doberman/Urban_scribe, and the way that we KNOW they aren't part of our race is that they constantly express their "don't care" attitude about what is happening to BLACK people----the reason they really don't care is because.....they're not really black to begin with. They are "mixed race" and therefore, they want everyone to become like them--so that THEY will feel more comfortable. _____________________________ What I am saying...is that I have to concede that what I have been preaching to black women is not really possible in this country. And I will have to modify that message...because I can't justify "sacrificing" black women's lives so that Black men can do as they please. Black women are accused of "hating" black men....but that's really NOT TRUE. What it is....is that Black women have "lost respect" for Black men. AND NO ONE RESPECTED BLACK MEN...BUT US. And the truth is, "white women" do not respect black men--but they would be fools to not take advantage of the black man's accessability and desire to be free of his "suffering" in black skin. No matter how you cut it---our people lose. And no matter the ignorant Black American says....a "mulatto" is NOT a Black. That's not good enough. | ||

I didn't start this to start a "fight". I'm just acknowledging that "MOST" black men do not love us or even like us. A lot of black women refuse to wake up from their "delusions" about that fact, but it's true. Because of stereotypes, it's even safe to say that many black men...are our real enemies. Who remembers the time Doberman first arrived here and lit into me for saying that "dark skinned black models" should be included on BET? He calls himself a black man, but he actually expressed hatred and "repulsion" at the idea that "dark girls" need to be in videos. And in that way---black men really can be our enemies. He's since changed his story and claimed that his reactions to "dark skinned women" expressing their experience in this society is in DEFENSE of "light skinned women" who are routinely attacked by women like me. Kola - your intelligent woman and a lot of what you say I often agree with but I am in an on/off relationship at the moment that is interracial and I don't think it is because of what your saying. It wasn't a case of not being able to find some 'good black men', I just liked the person (they made me laugh and we were on the same level) and we became a couple. Also, the statistic you gave about there being two hundred million whites in america and only thirty eight millions blacks is very relevant in the sense as it points to the reason as why many do go into interracial marriages and relationships. When a country has a large majority group of one race and several others that are smaller in comparison, eventually over the years the smaller groups will 'blend' in as they find it harder to grow (don't know if you get what I mean...?). That is why we have so many interracial relationships in the UK. For example, when I moved to the town I am now in for university it was a lot more likely I would have a white partner than a black one because the white men to black men ratio. I agree with your sentiments that a lot of black men do chase a certain woman because they have been taught to hate their image (and there are black women who also do this)but that is their hang up. Their behaviour and actions do not reflect or voice their opinions of the racial group they happen to be in. Let them live their lives with those ignorant views - I pity them. I think the black race has things that are lot more worrying to address (AIDs in Africa for example) and maybe I am being naive or bias because of the realtionship I am in - but I don't think the majority of interracial relationships are necessarily down to 'hatred' within black people. | ||

Latina_wi, I have never wanted children with anyone. My husband does know that I would never have children with him for many of these reasons including producing ungrounded children. However he doesn't want children either and has never let on that he minds about that particular reason. I'm sure it doesn't sound loving to admit that I would never reproduce with him but he knows how much I love my ancestors. And if you love your ancestors you want to produce children in their image and children whose spirit is compatible with theirs. That's not possible with people of such different backgrounds as ours. | ||

ABM, My primary concern is not a battle with whites. My primary concern is the battle for this land and producing another child is wrong to me because I am not doing all I can to create a healthy space for her to live. IMO It is selfish to create a child whose main job would be to fix all the environmental problems people like me have created. However I must say that the most important fight that black people in general, and West Africans in particular have to fight is with each other. We hate each other so much that white people don't even need to bother fighting us anymore. We kill each other every day, literally and figuratively. We do their work. Most black people I know are just walking shells. Their spirits don't exist anywhere near their bodies. It would be extremely difficult to bring a child up to respect our West African ancestors when all around her she would see evidence of how weak and pathetic we are as a people...how we have foresaken ourselves. My parents have four children and only two of us respect who we are. I could not bear to see any of my children disrespect our ancestors the way my sister and brother do. This sort of disrespect angers and disgusts me more than white people ever could. My brother is older than me. Since our parents brought us here he has become an agnostic/atheist (not sure what the right term is), stopped supporting our parents financially, and does not respect his elders. He has divorced the woman who came from Benin to be his wife and bore him two children because she was "not sophisticated enough." He meant she was not Westernized enough to be with him. My younger sister is the one who dated whites. She is willing to marry one and have his children. She refuses to speak our language with me, saying that it is useless given that she is "American" and hasn't been to Benin in ages. She has, however, been to Australia and France. She also eagerly speaks French so that she can maintain that language. I think she is purposely trying to forget anything she still remembers from home. | ||

Kola Boof - fair enough. I understand and respect your views (as I always have). No, I am not an african-american and my life in the UK is totally different to how many american blacks live. I came to this board to learn and take in what is said (maybe show some people the differing lives of other blacks on the globe). I don't wish it to come across as me shoving my opinions down other people's throats and I am sorry if it has. I am simply a person from outside of the USA who is still very interested about the country's going ons - especially it's racial history. Maybe your right, I might not be able to appreciate why someone feels it is so important to have someone who represents the image of their ancestors. I was taken aback and a bit confused when I heard a few white people who were 'horrified' about the growing number of mixed raced children in the UK - so it isn't just a case of me not being able to understand why dahom and other black people would only want kids in the image of her ancestors. On a personal level, it has never been a big deal to me - could be down to the fact that so many people in my family's history had children that weren't in 'their own image'. However, I want to point out in no way, shape or form to I think that I am an improvement or that people 'like me' are an improvement. That is an arrigant and purely ignorant belief. Nor did I go into an interracial relationship with any agenda - I went out with someone who made me laugh. It is as simple as that, no conspiracy theory behind it. Moreover, Kola though my blood is mixed I am often viewed as a black person. I say I am a black person and I believe I look more black than the other blood I have so I don't see black people as an 'ingredient' as that would be to my own detriment. Mzuri, You're making a lot of assumptions. First of all I am not in agreement that most interracial couples hang out with other interracial couples but let's say that it is true. Nonetheless, the two couples we hang out with the most are a Chinese couple (my husband's best friend and his wife) and a native couple (my best friend and her husband). We do know people who are in mixed relationships (mostly Asian women/white men). Their children are of no concern to me given that neither party is West African. West Africans are the only ones I tend to be concerned with when it comes to children. There is a young lady I teach from Mali. She spent a lot of time with me during office hours. When she had trouble in class her father also called me and told me to look after her, for she is my daughter. This is a very common thing in West Africa. I am the mother of his daughter because I am her female elder and that is the way we see things. I am concerned only with "my children" not those of others. And in order to be "my child" both parents need to look like me. | ||

Your viewpoint is that you see a connection between love and reproducing. For people like my mother and others of southern Benin love has nothing to do with reproduction. The idea that love and childbirth are related is mostly Western to us. Black Americans, like most Americans who are culturally European, are pulled in by these things but by and large Beninese women are not. I married my husband because I believe in monogamy ,not to have children. Marriage with a Beninese man was out of the question specifically because I will not have children and that is the primary reason for marriage where I am from. Cynique, I live in New York City, over 40% immigrant. There is a large West African population here. And as an example there is a post on this board about a Malian family who lost members in a fire. They lived in a building inhabited solely by Malians because we tend to live together for support. My parents live in a building like that and I am often there. I am not at all cut off from other West Africans. The great thing about being a professor is that I may spend my summers in Benin each year. We had a previous discussion about why I remain here so I'm not sure why we should have it again. As far as being subject to white standards the only one I struggle with is being punctual. I don't adhere to most of them because I don't have to. And it is a good thing we are both happy with who we are. | ||

Misty, If we're all African then we're also all amoebas given that some scientists have also asserted that we all evolved from a single cell organism. And if that's the case why not attempt to procreate with our chimpanzee brothers and sisters? After all we have 98% of our DNA in common. I am not at all swayed by the "we're all African" crowd. If you think that it's ok to have biracial children then that's of course your choice to make. I must ask, however, if you feel your are culturally and/or ethnically distinct from the people you might choose to procreate with. If the answer is no then no true sacrifice is being made is it? There are no traditions to protect, no language or spirituality that risks being lost. As far as abortions I can assure you that not all African cultures are in agreement on this issue. First of all you have Africans who are now more driven by non-African religions like Islam and Christianity when they form their views on abortion. Secondly I know that in Benin we routinely killed deformed babies and still sometimes do. Also, in my ethnic group, the first mixed race babies were also killed (according to stories passed down). Killing them before birth seems more efficient. But I'm not irresponsible enough to get pregnant. IMHO adults who have unplanned pregnancies simply prove that two people simultaneously made a monumental mistake. Neither my husband nor I am that careless. | ||

Well Kola let me add my $0.02. First of all your # of 27% of Black men who interracially date/marry is "overblown". Actually about 11% of Black men are partnered with non-Black women. And about 6% of Black women are partnered with non-Black men. That is about 17% which is not very high. As a group African Americans are the least likely of ALL ethnic groups in this country to interracially date/marry. Whites, Asians, and Latino's interracially date/marry more than we do. You are right about only 3% of White Americans who interracially date/marry. But remember they outnumber Blacks 7 to 1. 85% of all interracial marriages in this country that are performed are between White men and Asian women. I also will agree with you on the fact that Black women and non-Black men are the fastest growing interracial relationships in this country. Approximately 120,000 Black women in this country are coupled with non-Black men. And about 201,000 Black men are this country are coupled with non-Black women. Now that rose because about 2 years ago only 80,000 Black women where with non-Black men. Those are the figures. It was funny I was at Balboa Beach yesterday and I saw the cutest young Black couple. They looked like they were about 18 or 19 years of age. Which I thought was funny it is becoming more increasingly rare to see a Black man under the age of 30 years old with a Black woman. | ||
