'ABORT' SHOCK IN GIANT DIVORCE
TOOMER'S BABY FURY

SPLIT: Amani Toomer with wife Yola Dabrowski, who he says broke a vow to have kids with him.
February 26, 2007 -- Giants star Amani Toomer is splitting with his wife, claiming she not only reneged on a pact to have kids with the veteran wide receiver but went so far as to abort four pregnancies, according to bombshell court papers.
Toomer has sued to annul his marriage to Dr. Yola Dabrowski, who won't get a dime if a judge upholds Toomer's argument that she committed "fraud" when they wed. She is seeking a divorce.
The divorce trial is set to begin tomorrow in Hudson County, N.J., Family Court.
Toomer, 32, alleges his wife refused to have the "big family" they had discussed before getting hitched in a Las Vegas civil ceremony in October 2002.
"This false promise was never delivered," he charges in documents filed in court.
Instead, Dabrowski "had up to four" abortions "against Toomer's wishes [and] without his consent," the Giant claims.
The footballer also alleges that Dabrowski, 34, "refused to change her last name to Toomer," and won't cook, clean or take medication to treat her depression.
And, she allegedly "disrespected [his] integrity and manhood."
Dabrowski, a chiropractor and law-school student, vehemently denied the claims.
In her filings for divorce, she alleges "extreme cruelty," accusing Toomer of being "relentlessly demanding . . . insecure and paranoid."
The grid great insisted Dabrowski "cater to his every whim and need," she claims.
And when she didn't want to have sex, Toomer acted "irrationally and outrageously" - once urinating on her clothes, and another time tossing her BlackBerry into the Hudson River.
Dabrowski says she became "fearful" of having kids with Toomer, losing "all hope" that he would be "emotionally or physically available" to a child.
She also charges that Toomer, who helped pay for her education, was an overbearing hubby who later insisted she "back-burner" her goals so she could manage his finances, travel with him and entertain his family.
Despite months of mediation, Toomer and Dabrowski have not been able to reach a settlement.
Dabrowski, who has been granted $11,000 a month in temporary support, wants permanent alimony and half the couple's marital assets.
Toomer, who missed much of last season with a knee injury, is in the middle of a $20 million, five-year contract with the Giants.
Saying "all he ever wanted was for [Yola] to love and respect him," Toomer's filings also include claims that his wife:
* Quit marriage counseling after just two sessions, because she was "tired of lying to therapists."
* Does not like watching his games, and often ridicules instead of praises his play. She "even had the audacity to poke fun . . . when he made a catch [and] stumbled without being tackled," he alleges. And, she "always chose to travel [on vacations] separate" from him, opting to be alone and meet other people, making Toomer feel "abandoned and unloved."
* "Has begun smoking" although Toomer "has asthma and it is unhealthy for his profession to be near a smoker."
* "Basically abandoned" their Toomer Foundation, a charity they set up to help needy kids.
Dabrowski's papers complain that Toomer:
* Wouldn't let her sleep "unless she had sex with him" and harassed her by turning on the lights and television to force her from their bedroom.
* Sabotaged her dream of becoming a lawyer by stealing her computer and files, making it impossible to study for her law-school exams and leading to her getting an incomplete for the term.
* Was so "insecure" that he couldn't interact with his own family, friends, accountants, agents and publicists - and insisted Dabrowski do it for him.
* Forced her to put her chiropractic career on hold so she could spend two years decorating their $2 million West New York waterfront condo, "demanding" it "reflect a style and décor consistent with his position as an NFL athlete." After that was done, he told her they were moving - and made her do the same thing with the new place. |

The title of this article should be:

I wonder what they ever saw in each other and how long they knew each other before they got married - because this is a mismatched pair if there ever was one. It's too bad about the abortions but she clearly didn't want to have a long-term relationship with him. She was probably just along for the free ride.

i met amani a couple times before he seemed like an alright dude to me, that's too bad his dirty laundry got aired ... but i guess all is fair in hate & divorce. i always thought that athletes should never get married until they are done with their careers, which averages about to the age of 30. half of those guys end up getting a divorce to their wives whether their black, white, latina, or asian because when they are done playing their sport then they are forced to actually spend time with their mates. oh well... i know alot of you see it as some sort of vindication, that's your perogative of course. but like i said he was a cool dude to me, so i wish him the best. |

But I can think of a lot WORSE things a man might expect of his wife than her having his kids, keeping a well-kept home and taking his last name. In fact, I can imagine there being very few RICH men who'd expect LESS than that.
What SHOULD the wife of wealthy, high profile husband do, anyway? Just look pretty, shop a lot and/or sit on her a$$ and watch soap operas all day? |

First of all, a man should never "require" anything from his spouse. That in and of itself is disrespectful. He is NOT her boss---and I doubt that she is the type to expect her marriage to be some sort of hooker/john arrangement; her refusal to have his children shows how smart she really is and she is a doctor working on a law degree. And as the intelligent professional woman that she seems to be, I most certainly understand why his ignorant ass bone-headed-bare-foot & pregnant DEMANDS are offensive and insulting to her and COMPLETELY against HER WISHES. She did not spend all those years in school to stay home and be his maid! And I'm sorry but he should have known this. like it or not tonya, the MAN is in charge in a relationship.
the reason there are so many divorces, is beacause some women have this idea that the marriage relationship is an equal partnership.

most people want to have children after being married.
she can follow her "career goals" after she has children.
the window of oppertunity for a feamle to have children is not that large.

There is something wrong with a man who puts his wife through college (like I am sure Amani did) and then expects her not to pursue her career. WTF? |

First, no smart person marries without attempting to garner some assurances with respect to what his-her spouse is and will do.
I don't see ANYTHING wrong with a husband wanting his wife to bear his kids, name and take care of his home IF he's willing to and capable of providing her resources and support to facilitate her safely, comfortably doing such.
Likewise, a husband should support his wife life and career aspirations, again, provided she provides him the means to do such.
Now. What's NOT been adequately presented here is the extent to which what Toomer and Dabrowski wanted/needed were discussed and agree upon, especially PRIOR to their marrying.
Have either or both of them RENEGED on prior agreements?
Or did not clearly and fairly express what they want/need PRIOR to committing to each other?
The answers to those answer to those questions determine whether either/both have been mistreated.
And perhaps it's unfair to debate and wallow in the accusations that are being hurled between them (e.g., his destroying her computer, she abandoning his foundation, etc.) Because what might have happened is they initially supported each other plans and activities until it became clear to both of them the other was NOT going to do/be the spouse he-she wanted/needed. |

There's a difference. WANTING something and FORCING someone (by means of torture through sleep deprivation) are two very different things.. so it’s WRONG if it isn't what SHE WANTS yet he's trying to FORCE it upon her. And his money doesn't change this, money isn't a stand-in for basic human decency. He has no more rights to the dehumanization of another than a poor--or white--man.

She would not take on his last name when they were married, ABM. That's a DEAD GIVEAWAY for someone with AT LEAST a vaguely feminist mindset. He should have known THEN that she wasn't the type to play Susie homemaker. And when he SAW her advancing her career as a chiropractor towards a law degree (which makes sense, chiropractors handle lots of accident patients) he should have known that she's serious about a demanding career OF HER OWN.

TOOMER A FREE AGENT AFTER DIVORCE SETTLEMENT

Giants star Amani Toomer can focus on football again - he and his wife reached a settlement yesterday in their bitter breakup battle.
Toomer and Dr. Yola Dabrowski reached the agreement after about six hours of closed-door discussions in Hudson County Family Court.
The wide receiver hugged his lawyer and pumped his fist in the air when the secret settlement was reached.
"I think it's a great day," he said. "Personally, for me, I'm just really happy right now."
His wife, who'd been hoping for a large chunk of his football fortune, didn't seem to be so happy.
"It's a bittersweet day," said Dabrowski as tears welled in her eyes.
The attorneys scurried back and forth between conference rooms before hammering out a nine-page settlement.
The terms were undisclosed but were called fair by both Toomer and his wife's lawyer, Tom Snyder.
"It is what it is. I'm glad that it's over," said Toomer. "It's fair to both parties. I mean, it wasn't great for me, it wasn't great for her, but it was just one of these things that you kind of meet in the middle. And that's how things get resolved. I'm ready to move on."
Toomer's lawyers also withdrew their "annulment" and "cruelty" complaints, making the settlement easier to reach, according to the attorneys.

I mean, you're doing a better SPIN job for the Dabrowski than her ATTORNEY appears to have done.
And it seems she could really used your help. Because based on Toomer's/Dabrowski's response to how their divorce was decided, whoever decided/arbitrated their divorce did NOT buy much of Dabrowski's arguments/accusations.
But then, I'm sure you will - being the good firebreathing feminist you be - assert whoever decided/arbitrated was probably just another man who's hellbent on perpetuating the male-dominated, misogynistic patriarchal system. Right? |

I think whoever decided/arbitrated their divorce easily figured out chick was golddigging from the giddy-up and did the RIGHT thing.

I highly doubt she had four abortions -he proably physically abused her or something. And I'm sure the root cause of her issues were due to his super-ego. He's, more than likely, the typical, rich, male athlete who feels his money entitles him to "own" any woman he's with -regardless of color. And his soon-to-be ex just happens to be white. I'm glad she divorced him though, because she should have never married him to begin with. I'm even more glad that they didn't procreate. She's definitely not gorgeous -average, at best. But as far as I'm concerned, he looks like an iguana. She could be with a man who is much more attractive.
