Usually, I try to avoid being the progenitor of these ubiquitous COLORISM diatribes. But there is something that I am compelled to make note of that I’ve observed: Even though MOST of players on the current Chicago Bears Super Bowl team are Black men, I’ve seen very FEW Black women be featured in ANYWAY with all the pre-game media and hoopla.
For example, while reading today’s Chicago Sun-Times newspaper (one of the cities 2 biggest papers), I observed 3 or 4 pictures of Black bears players being interviewed by and posing with NON-Black women.
Of course, MOST of the female sports media is WHITE. But it’s NOT just a BM/WW thang. On the COVER of today’s paper is a brawny dark-skinned Bears linebacker doing, what looks to be, the frickin’ SALSA with a comely Latina REPORTER, of all things.
And, yeah, I know Miami, where the Super Bowl is being played, is dominated by Cubans. But, hell, I’ve even saw pics of Black Bear players posing with ASIAN chicks. If they can find Asian chicks in Miami to pose and dance with brothas, can’t they also find some SISTAS down there??
And what I’ve found MOST annoying about the Bears clinching a Super Bowl bid are all these INANE articles about nobodya$$ WHITE chicks celebrating the Bears success.
There are all these articles about low-rent female celebrities (WTF does fakea$$, ex-pro tennis player Anna Kornokova have to do with FOOTBALL, anyway?). There are skeezer White chicks auctioning dates on EBAY (and do we even have to guess what CUMS with those dates?) to guys who have extra Super Bowl tickets. Hell. There’s even been some White chick here in Chicago trying to sell advertising space on her pregnant BELLY to score Super Bowl tickets.
All of this extra attention given to women, most of whom have almost NO legitimate relationship to pro football, and yet almost NONE of it involve BLACK women for a sports whose players are closing in on being EIGHTY PERCENT BLACK???
That’s just flatout BVLLSHYT!!
Again. I USUALLY try to avoid starting these COLORIST arguments. But, given the profile of the Super Bowl – all it’s attention, capital, symbolism, meaning, pomp & pageantry – I couldn’t help but say SOMETHING about what I’ve been seeing.
PS: Yes. I expect all the Kola-bashers and colorist apologists to fallaciously attempt to rebut my commentary. |

ABM I admire you alot and you are a true Black man with Black daughters who are concerned about there futures. Like Kola said that is there "ploy". Recognize the Black man but disallow the womb in which it took to give birth to him.
This is one of the institutions that Shemika was talking about that are trying to "openly" seperate BM and BW. These are "evil" institutions. That are hell-bent on destroying the Black race.

I totally understand what you're "saying". It's about equal representation --which I'm all for. However, I find it very strange that you, a black man, who (rightly) wants black women to be mated with black men in healthy relationships, would promote something that would only further exploit Black women. Because we both know that black women are exploited enough, especially in the media.

Frankly, I do NOT have a problem with the media highlighting Black women - Black starlets included - reporting on, interviewing and DANCING with Black football players.

Amazingly, I saw TWO lovely young Black women (along with, of course, a few White women) featured in an article in today's Chicago Sun-Times involving the Bears (sadly, one of the sistas appeared to don one of those AWFUL Korean hairweaves). They were modeling Bear regalia. And one of the sistas (a delightfully-dimpled HEARTBREAKER) was MOST prominently featured in the article.
The ladies weren't with any Black Bear players, though. But, hey. We've still got a few days yet before they play the Super Bowl. |
