Four members of a Latino gang in Highland Park were found guilty Tuesday of unleashing a barrage of assaults and killings to push African Americans out of the predominantly Latino community in northeast Los Angeles.
The verdicts in a downtown federal courtroom marked the first time a street gang had been convicted of breaking federal hate crime laws, traditionally employed against white supremacist groups like skinheads and the Ku Klux Klan.
"I'm glad the truth is out," said Luisa Prudhomme, whose 21-year-old son, Anthony, was killed when Avenues members allegedly kicked open his door and shot him in the head as he lay on a futon.
"This wasn't just regular gang activity as usual," she said. "This was hate crime. They promoted hatred and racism and ignorance."
The four defendants — Gilbert "Lucky" Saldana, 27; Alejandro "Bird" Martinez, 28; Fernando "Sneaky" Cazares, 25; and Porfirio "Dreamer" Avila, 31 — face life in prison without the possibility of parole for their roles in the conspiracy. Sentencing for the first three was set for Oct. 23; for Avila, the date is Nov. 20.

Among crimes committed by the defendants from 1995 to 2001, according to testimony, were shooting a 15-year-old boy riding a bike; hitting a jogger in the head with a pistol; drawing outlines of human bodies in chalk on a family's driveway, along with a racial slur; and knocking a woman off her bike, threatening her husband with a box cutter, and saying, "You niggers have been here long enough."
One night in April 1999, the defendants were riding in a van and came upon a black man, Kenneth Wilson, parking his Cadillac. When Martinez asked if anyone wanted to kill a black man, three of them jumped out, ran up to Wilson's windows and opened fire, witnesses said. A shot to the head killed him before the car had even rolled to a stop.
Saldana bragged later that he just wanted to test out his new 9-millimeter Ruger.
Another black man, Christopher Bowser, was harassed and beaten up by the defendants for years. In December 2000, he filed a police report saying Martinez had assaulted and robbed him at a bus stop near his house. A week later, Bowser was shot to death at the same bus stop on Figueroa Street.
Five days later, Avila told a fellow gang member, in a taped phone call from jail, that he and Martinez had been beating up mayates for weeks, using a Spanish-language epithet for blacks. After mentioning Bowser, he added, "That fool is gone." Avila was convicted in state court of the murder.

Well. If things are as bad for Black women in Southern California as Kola and others often decry, there should be scant surprise there are Black women included amongst the paramours of burgeoning Latino gangs, even those who loathe Blacks.
Hell. Perhaps part of the reason WHY some of the sistahs hook up with these racist killers is because of their SHARED hatred of Black men. |

Absolutely not.
I speak from first hand experience. I visited Syria. Very few Syrians are brown-skinned; they resemble Askenazi Jews almost to a T. Even the women have flat asses(except on the coast, around Latakia). There are darker Greeks and Lebanese than Syrians; in fact there are "black" Lebanese on some islands off the Lebanese coast. I know because I have seen them. |

I speak from first hand experience as well. I've lived in SYRIA for 3 weeks, traveled around the country---Syrians come in typical ARAB light custard complexions, they have large noses and Gamine shaped faces and I don't know what Arab women OUTSIDE North Africa don't have "flat asses".

Well, at the risk of inaccurately speaking for Kola, I think Kola's overall issue/problem is NOT with what mulattos ARE but rather what they DO and how what they do and even their mere existence is often used to undermine the interests and empowerment of more purely BLACK people.
Honestly. I've witness Kola express TOO MUCH love for White and off-White women (e.g., Betty Davis, Barbara Streisand, Halle Berry, Lonette McKee, etc.) for one to ever fairly concluded that she hate non-Blackness in and of itself.
Now, honestly: I shouldn't have had to do this. Because, really, a FAIR assessment of what Kola has expressed here would most VOCIFEROUSLY assert that Kola simply is NOT what you're attempting to make her out to be. |

ABM - For the most part - the women that you named above are fictional characters. Yes, Halle gave Kola some Kool-Aid once while Kola's man was over at Halle's house doing repair work - but I don't believe that Kola has met or conversed with Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, Barbra Streisand, Lana Turner, Greta Garbo and all those characters that we typically see on Turner Classic Movies. They are fictional because we don't really know what these women were really like, we can only judge them based upon their movie roles/characters that they have portrayed. They are actresses/illusions. But since Kola is delusional she professes to have love for these women and proclaims that some of them are goddesses and that she knows what they thought of themselves (they supposedly thought of themselves as goddesses) - which is a farce.
And I'm really not trying to make Kola out to be anything other than what she actually is - a fraudulent fake hypocrite. She is supposedly some world-renowned author who writes and speaks about the "Black" cause and experience, when according to the very stringent standards that she herself has set, she is not even really Black. That's all. |

I don't mean to butt in, but even though Kola can be "inconsistent" or "unstable" at times she still speaks the raw truth. Assimilation simply won't work for African Americans -- atleast not if you want self-determination.
Once a "Black" person has a critical amount of white blood there are too many temptations to find a place within the white power structure; to have the "best of both worlds"; to "claim all your heritages"; and above all to cut all ties with Africa or "I ain't no damn African." Africa is the common denominator for all Black people - it is our homeland. Without roots, a tree dies.
If you're Black there really is no room to dilly dally in all your nonwhite heritege, honestly. Sure, you can acknowledge it, but when it comes down to it Black people must, with laser like focus, help each other out and build Africa to what it once was - yes, I sound fanciful.
With assimilation you have a "fade out" effect:
black->mulatto->quadroon->octoroon-> ....white.
And really, when "true" Black people see near white people claiming to be Black, that shoots self-esteem right in the head. Not a good thing.
In short,
Assimilation: Bad
Having many, many African looking kids or Black kids who actually look Black (the more the better) - Good
There is power in numbers. If Blacks, especially in America, got together, strengthened the family unit, became less "white oriented", had MANY kids, 5 or more a family(I'm dead serious here), and weren't ashamed of Africa or being called African - GOOD
Create our own media to take all the negative connotations off the word "Africa" and "African" - GOOD

Ngo, I agree 100%!!!! Especially about the having 5 kids per family part.
If only we could get these Black Americans to rise up on behalf of their ancestors who built this country and TOPPLE the new Latino dominance by practicing unity, pride and self-affirmation.
It's damned shame to just hand over everything the Black Americans built over 500 years to a bunch of whites and latinos.

I think that intelligent, racially conscious blacks in particular need to have lots of children, as these qualities have a strong genetic basis. This is why I don't think we should cry over blacks who marry/breed interracially, as they are (sadly) just on the wrong side of our evolutionary destiny. |
