Well, RAD---I respect your opinion, whatever it is, and I'm glad you watched it. Naturally, I was really hoping for feedback on the board and really haven't gotten much. ABM doesn't count, because that's my riding partner and Nyibol is from Sudan and close friend. But I'm grateful you watched it at least. AND---AAs see themselves "one way" and very rarely get to hear HONEST appraisals by other blacks, so it's very often that they don't agree with how I see things...but I feel that the only way I can HELP/BE WITH them is to remain African and present my views as such. I'm all those things and a 100 more. There will never be a clear-cut BOX category for Kola Boof. I thought it was very obvious why I compared my beauty to Monica Lewinsky. The Press was saying that I wasn't pretty enough to be sought out by a man of BIN LADEN's wealth/stature---yet they never once questioned that the most powerful man in the world would be involved with a WHITE woman who--by THEIR standards---is far less attractive than I am. Anyone who has lived in the U.S. for five minutes can see quite clearly that Black Women are not expected to live/experience the same level of Womanhood that Non-Black women are. In other words, "my experiences" as an African woman were too cosmopolitan for them believe in relation to the color of my skin and the "normal" STATION of black females. Not unless they're biracial/mulatto--and even those stock are devalued, because of blackness. It's always funny how you black men can NOTE the racism against yourselves---but are totally INEPT when exposed to the type of racism that is leveled towards your own mothers. It's a damned shame that I had to explain that to you. Have you never noticed that "pink" pantyhose are labeled NUDE in the color box. Do you realize how BRUTALLY racist that is??? Do you ever think about the way that black women have to encounter racism differently from black men? No--because the culture only focuses on the suffering of black males. NOBODY FIGHTS FOR US. And so when I deign to stand up for myself, I'm not surprised that you find it "strange". Womem, I think, view (consensual) sexual acts as affirming their desireability, attractiveness... If we speak of poverty as far as lacking self acceptance is concern, I would say that black people of the United States of America really need aid more than anyone else in the world. ABM, there is no disputing Kola is a talented writer but she is just one of many, and her ability to manipulate words in an entertaining matter does not make her the great leader she continually claims to be. Instead she listed 13 links to alleged media stories about herself. I have always thought that Toni Morrison's book, "The Bluest Eye", literally started a social movement in this country. As did Ellison's "Invisible Man" and Walker's "Color Purple". These are all fiction books. I have not read Kola Boof's books, so I cannot comment on her talent (although as a teacher, I've heard many enthusiastic praises for her work). My fundamental point is that fiction writing has many, many times been the catalyst for social change and awakening. I only agree with about 60% of what Kola has said on these boards over the year that I have been here. There are others that I tend to relate to more, such as ABM, Linda from Ohio,Chris Hayden and Cynique, because their experiences are closer to mines. Kola is a totally foreign concept for me, but I do find her laboring over black people to be valiant and honorable. If you like black folks, it's impossible not to like her. Finally, I do detect jealousy on BabyGirl's part. As ABM said, she only pops up when there's an opportunity to swipe at Kola and then she all but spits on her. Babygirl, Of course I understand and respect your viewpoint of Kola on several points. I disagree with much it. But understand and respect it. I find Kola to be an uniquely talented writer. She has a combination of insight, humor, eloquence and raw fury that I find both refreshing and necessary. And I find what she does to be especially brave. Now. If you honestly and fairly read my 1,000's of posts here, it should be clear to you that I've probably DISAGREE with her more frequently than ANYONE else who's posted here. But then I have disagreed with the words and views of people - living and departed - whom I admire most. I do not have to embrace and enjoy EVERYTHING someone says/does to appreciate what someone contributes. ...Frankly, I find that quite limiting. Rather, I assess the merits of Kola's contributions in relation to a particular goal/objective of my own. Am I learning, being provoked, incited, angered, entertained, etc. are what is important to me during my discourse with Kola. And THOSE I receive in profound excess. I’ll leave whether Kola is or isn’t a great leader for time and circumstances to determine. I suspect she will be proven such. But I concede it is still too early to tell, Yay or Nay. Now. I’ll agree with you about several things concerning Kola: @ Kola is (often a SHAMELESS) self-promoter. And some of what she says and does has questionable/unprovable authenticity. And she’s, unfortunately/unnecessarily, assumed disguises (though I think some of that was due to her struggles with being ‘banished’ from Thumper’s Corner). @ Yes. It’s unlikely Kola will provide some blueprint for the salvation of our race. Nor do I think that you, I or any ONE person could ever hope to do that. And neither did/could MLK, Malcolm or Tubman for that matter. All a self-made crusader like Kola can ever hope to achieve is to start a small fire that warms and lights the way of a auspicious journey that’s sure to endure once we ALL are dead and gone. @ Kola has great difficulty tolerating views that materially differ from those of her own. I think that is perhaps the source of her strength and is her Achilles. But how she balance such is only for her to divine, assuming that is even possible. But none of that distract from the veracity of what she’s argued: @ Black people, men and women, have almost wholly succumbed to the supremacy of others. Every educational, scientific, economic, social, cultural aspect of our lives/history proves. @ Black men in a myriad of ways deprecate and depreciate Black women. And, by doing so, they diminish themselves. @ Non-Black and lightskinned women enjoy an advantage in the mating game with Black men. @ African women and children are being grossly abused via assort reasons and methodology, not the least of which being rape, infibulations, displacement and abandonment. I may differ with Kola with respect to the degree to which these phenomena exist and whether/how they should be confronted. And, YES, Kola is – like every one of US – a very FLAWED human being. But I think the essence of what she argues is irrefutable. And it is for THAT reason, combined with her bravery and very entertaining writing and persona that I’ll continue to support her. Even (perhaps ESPECIALLY) when I disagree with her. I’ve done enough namecalling lately around here. So I won’t respond in kind to your attempts to bait me into such. Instead, I’ll just allow your, my and Kola’s records stand on their own and respect those who are interested in such to judge for themselves. PS: Babygirl. Why do you think the Nazi’s burned books? Why do you think that when a dictator takes over a country, writers are amongst the first jailed and killed. Why do you think the Black slave was denied the write to read and to write? ABM, I have great respect for you as well, most especially when you are as eloquent and as engaging to my mind as your last post. I enjoy the art of having my views challenged while being taught at the same time. That's the reason I come here. With respect to Kola's talent as a writer I whole-heartedly agree. The woman is truly gifted. And I agree that the ESSENCE of what she ATTEMPTS to argue cannot be refuted, but as I've said before, Kola needs to be challenged. We all need to be challenged. If Kola can withstand the fire, then Kola's message will surely rise from the ashes. The problem I have is that Kola crashes and burns more times than not, and subsequently what good she could accomplish is destroyed. And as I've said before, you, Cynnique, and anyone else with any semblance of intelligence knows, Kola isn't losing one ounce of sleep over my being critical of her. Babygirl, I agree Kola is an emotionally unstable person who's easily unhinged. But what you might find interesting is those are very COMMON traits amongst brillant people. Especially artists. Actually, I find her williness to continually subject her tender nerve-endings to the criticism and revulsion she often faces here to be to her particular credit. I doubt that many artists you admire would have the GUTS to appear here to defend their art/views. And few, if ANY, of them would manage to do so as potently as she. | ||

I generally don't comment on topics such as this. I know that this kitchen can get hot, but generally rest assured that everyone who comes up in here can stand the heat. Especially Kola can stand the heat--it is, afterall, her kitchen and her house! I don't feel the need to come to anyone's defense. But by the same token I find it difficult to ever levy persoanl attacks--those meant in retaliation, "in love," or just out of fun. I look at it this way: Every adult I interact with was once a five year old, and that five year old "self" still exists inside of them. Thus, I try to never treat anyone in a way that would hurt a five year old. I know that sounds corny, and I'm not trying to stifle anyone here (y'all can take care of yourselves).
