Finally got to meet JustWrite [Paula Edwards] at the L.A. Black Book Expo. Very nice young woman and I’m anxious to start reading her book, The Last Bad Decision. But I think I’ll hold it for my return trip to Vegas in a few weeks. [Side Note: yeah, had such a good time I’m going back. Nope I didn’t win much money – just enough to keep playing but that’s better than usual. Next trip we’re planning a mojito crawl down the strip!] Anyway, Paula has a sequel to Bad Decision coming out next year.

This was the 2nd year for the Expo and the first time I attended. I went in the middle of the afternoon on Saturday and not a whole lot of folks in attendance but a fair group I’d say. Most of the sellers were self-published I think. Not a lot of fiction but I picked up a couple besides Paula’s book: Dark Roots by Jeannie Cobb-woman goes to an African country to search for her brother and ends up going back in time to U.S. slavery times; Brother Status by Shadrach Linscomb-young man coming of age story. I’ll let you know how they are. Several poets selling their work and I even stopped and listened to a few of them [just for you Chris]. A couple of holistic type folks selling stuff and some “let me tell you the real story” about our history, our kids, our schools, our money, our health kind of books.

I mentioned the Expo to a few folks but none of them went. I hope they can keep it going. I’ll have to see what I can do about getting the word out more.

Crystal THANK YOU! for the report!

I love Paula Edwards.

The book by Jeannie Cobb sounds really worth checking out.

Hope you have even more fun in VEGAS next time.

Me--I'm just starting to feel better. I've been sick.

Kola, put the LABBE on your list for next year. I think you'd be appreciated by this group.

Glad you're feeling better!

I've also seen those people at AFRAM,the east coast Jazz festival, AKA Boule',and to be honest almost every Black festival/convention I've been to.
