As the release of my autobiography approaches...one of the biggest criticisms that continues to dog my name revolves around my insistence on openly talking about my relationship with Osama Bin Laden...and the perception by many that I am just using that short 6 month nightmare to become "RICH" and to draw attention to myself.
Additionally....it's always been FALSELY ASSUMED by my critics.....that I was the one who revealed that I had been with Osama in the first place...WHICH I DID NOT (one only has to read the London Guardian to see that I initially tried to deny it, because I was so ashamed for people to know)....and that I was forced to tell, in order to protect my citizenship and to prove that I myself....am not a terrorist.
My critics see all my "talking" about Osama Bin Laden as something "exploitational" and "dirty"....
...but in their condemnation of me, they never think of a woman like Sally Hemmings, a slave who---because there is NO WRITTEN RECORD by her own hand-----has come to be portrayed as having a "romantic love story" with President Thomas Jefferson.
In reality, Sally Hemmings had her first child by him at the age of 12.
Obviously, her relationship with Jefferson began just the way mines did with Bin Laden...by Rape.
And, of course, out of fear--the raped person accepts any relationship that is presented, mainly because they have no power over their own destiny.
Ditto POCHAHONTAS, the Indian girl, who is portrayed in romantic love "cartoons" with these dashing White explorers....but the FACT IS.....she was only 12 years old when these men were using her as a tour guide and fucking her at their leisure.
100 years from now....when Osama Bin Laden becomes glorified the same way that Al Capone and Bonnie and Clyde and other "white bad boys" are eventually glamorized for being SUPER-BAD.....how will Kola Boof be portrayed if she doesn't speak up NOW about exactly what happened?
OSAMA BIN LADEN...RAPED ME....the first night I met him.
Am I to be quiet and let myself...later....be portrayed in some Hollywood epic as a TOPLESS African cosmo girl who had a whirlwind LOVE AFFAIR with the dashing, handsome Osama?
It seems to me...that the experiences of Black Women are NEVER given fair credence, respect or celebration.
Just the fact that Connie Chung tried to say that a man of Osama Bin Laden's "stature" would never have a "Black Woman" as his "Mistress" in the first place (CNN preferred to refer to me as "Sex Slave")---is evidence enough of the ingrained dishonor that the whole world casually drapes over the shoulders of black women--whenever they feel like it.
And that is because WE HAVE NOT TOLD OUR OWN STORIES.....and WE....have not stood up for ourselves.
I tell you one goddamned thing. I intend to tell mines.
I don't give a shit what people think--and that includes pompous, conservative, respectability-obsessed black women.
And considering the fact that Osama raped me, held me against my will and beat me brutally on more than once occasion....just WHY shouldn't I get paid for it???
Osama Bin Laden is the most famous man on earth...and the most wanted fugitive on earth.
I was his mistress--that happened, and there is a LOT that black women can prosper from intellectually by reading about my experiences.

I met Osama and his "gang" in January of 1996 while he was briefly visiting Morocco. He raped me the first night we met and then came back to bully and to have sex whenever he wanted that first week. He had to leave for Afghanistan that week, so he ordered his men to take me shopping and to get my hair re-done, and while that was being done, they packed up all my belongings and moved me...without my permission...to the estate of Prince Fabrizzio Ruspoli (which Ruspoli turned into a hotel called La Maison Arab). Of course, the Prince had no idea that I was there against my will. He thought I was an actress vacationing at the estate with Osama, and it's a sexist nation where people don't ask questions about women's situations. But I was forced to live there for six months while Osama came and went. I lived in the room that had been formerly occupied by England's Prime Minister Winston Churchill. I became Osama's mistress, and the sex became consensual, because I had to survive.
At the end of six months, Osama allowed me to leave and gave me twenty thousand dollars, a farm in Kenya, a house in South Africa and several hundred thousand dollars in jewelry. I sold the Yemenese water box he gave me to the British Commonwealth for about sixty thousand dollars and I made my way to Spain and finally England. Because of Islamic law, there are no photos of me and Osama, so when FOX NEWS decided to profile me, their Fact-Checkers first had to prove that I was telling the truth. They were able to confirm my story through the word of Prince Ruspoli, the cook at the estate and through the bank that I sold the property in Kenya and South Africa to. They also received information from the government of Libya's Moamar Khadafi, who I had worked for as a hostess in 1995.
It's very difficult to describe the effect Osama had on me. It's very complicated, but in my autobiography, Diary of a Lost Girl, I explore that experience in great depth and people can Pre-order that book now. It comes out in 2005

For the record.....I was NEVER a "sex slave", nor would I ever refer to myself that way and I didn't even give the interview that is written in the article above.
But magazines like the National Enquirer have the power to create their own version of your personal experiences....and this is another reason that I feel that way I do.

i am so with you on giving voice to your experience and telling your story while you have the chance. you see how the bible has and continues to be watered down to fit the laws of today. it is your life....tell your story....because once you are gone everyone else is going to try to tell your story with their own voices that don't represent you! more power to you black gurl!
and furthermore....when black women tell their stories why is it so unbelievable? when white women tell their stories it's a whole different ball game. give me a fucking break! |
