Kola, You recently asked me to share some personal information about myself. And I quite cavalierly brushed your questions aside (dats dat smarta$$ gene lose again). But your generous comments about my prose being "...absolutely lyrical..." (Ah dink ah wuvs yu.) has compelled me to share with you something about myself that is profoundly personal. I would like to do so in the form of an assignment, if you don't mind. I am a related to a great musical artiste. He was one of the greatest producers, composers, arrangers & songwriters of modern music in the 20th Century. You and countless other people who view this board have enjoyed his creations. You have listen to him on the radio, attended concerts featuring his music, enjoyed performers he's partnered with, trained, tutored and inspired. And some of you may have even performed some of his stylings yourselves. Most lay people know nothing about him personally. He was a very private man. But if you asked an esteemed grouping of music aficionados, black/white, who were most the important influences on popular soul, R&B, pop and hip/hop music, his name would be a prominent part of the discussion. And some of them will argue his musical gifts surpassed even those of the world-renowned Quincy Jones. I will give you four tries to guess the name of person I am referring. If you correctly guess then name, I will share with you and whoever else who visit this site some interesting/profound information about my relative and insider dealings/dope about the music biz. I will give you some time to ask around. You've got Hollywood friends (I think?). Ask some of them who produce, perform, DJ, archive, distribute music to help you to figure out whom I am talking about. Hint: One of Lauren Hill's most popular, multi-platinum songs includes a sample from my relative's music. Wanna give it a go, lassie? |

I bet I could guess if you gave me some kind of hint other than a Lauryn sample. You said we have listened to him on the radio. Is he a singer as well? When were his recordings out on the radio? What decade? Here are some wild guesses off the top of my head: Jerry Wexler Donny Hathaway Herbie Hancock Isaac Hayes Count Basie Duke Ellington

Nope. Sorry, Chris. Good guess though. Another hint: He was remarkably versatile. He produced equally astonding works in jazz, pop, r&b, soul, blues and gospel between the 60's - 70's. Yeah. I know Kola shot her wad. But you've gotta give the ladies a another chance to stay in the game, playa. Besides, don't you wanna see the front of her bounce up-n-down as she try to nab the cookie? |
