I'm just about finished the Da Vinci Code (currently #1 on both Amazon and B&N). Yes, I strongly recommend it. It is a fascinating read. One of the things the book talks about is how the woman has been rendered unimportant in western culture over the last 2000 years -- and how this devaluation of he female was lead by the Church no less. I won't go into details of the book, but we all know what a remarkable role women play in our lives and how, despite the lack of recognition and the overwhelming power exerted by men, women continue to hold it together for all of us.
We complain about teenage pregnancy, but it is women who struggle, alone, to raise these kids the majority of the time. While the Black Church is lead by men we all know without the support of women there would be no Church. The examples are endless.
Male influence left unchecked by the feminine influence seems to lead to global rape, pillage and plunder.
I’m not saying women should take over everything. As human being men and women need each other – we are incomplete otherwise. We will only reach the peak of spiritual development together.

Troy, I've been making little reference to this book for some time but nobody ever responded. And actually this is a subject in line with Thumper's post about religious books. We dealt mostly with nonfiction there but the DaVinci Code certainly deals with the subject of religion as do the "left behind" series, which are on their ninth installment and are tremendously popular works of bibical fiction based on armageddon and the book of Revelations. Being the iconoclast that I am, I really enjoyed The DaVinci Code because aside for it being a suspenseful mystery, it shakes the very foundations of the Catholic church. Which is why all of their scholars are rushing to discredit it. |

Hi Cynique, I missed those post regarding the Da Vinci Code. It really was a fascinating book. I was not aware of the "codes" in Da Vinci's paintings prior to reading the book. Da Vinci's The Last Super was particularily engaging when viewed in this light. I'll probably read more non-fiction on the subject of icons, and the history of the Catholic Church.
