A quick test and no cheating. I know the answer but I just got done exchanging messages with a guy who is either 6 years old or dumb as a box of rocks and who didn't know.

Really don't know off the top of my head. I remember Nixon resigned before he could be inpeached, didn't he? |

How about 2? Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton. Neither were convicted of the charges brought against them however. (I think) |

I want to know if my answer was right or wrong, Crhis?? I just came back to this site and saw your quiz a few minutes ago. I know Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln, was brought up for impeachment, as was Clinton. Who else? |

Chris: Anybody who didn't respond right away will just look it up. I know some President has been impeached but I can't put my finger on it. It's no one who was really well known I don't think. Or he would be famous for it, right? Anyway, I'm game for the answer because I've been trying to write all day (been avoiding it playing with ya'll for the last month) and don't have time to google it for myself. |

Cynique is correct. Johnson and Clinton. This guy I had the discussion with said none. I remember listening to those hearings in December of '98--Americans have no memory.

Well, I didn't look anything up, I just remember from my high school history class that Andrew Johnson was the first U.S. President ever to be impeached. As I said, Johnson was Lincoln's vice president and he succeeded to the presidency after Lincoln was assassinated. But I don't think he was found guility of what he was impeached for so he was not removed from office. I don't if anyone other than Clinton was impeached after Johnson. |

President Johnson was a Southerner who replaced the assassinated Lincoln. He was impeached because some of Congress thought he was undermining Lincoln's reconstruction plans, which included efforts designed to help the newly freed Blacks.
Some might say he was impeached largely because he denied Blacks their "40 acres and a mule".
But Congress could not garner enough votes to oust him because, of course, the Southern states ardently sought to retain him and some of the other states grudgely supported him because they feared axing him might reignite the Civil War.
So Johnson was impeached because it was believed he tried to undermine the mission and direction of America's efforts to try to restore a war torn country and liberate and make restitution to an entire race of people.
And Clinton was impeached because he lied about getting a blowjob. |
