Thanks for the video. It humorously highlites an important issue. If we seriously want to address the issues of teen pregnancy/STD's, we have stop being so dang prudish, and divine some way of broaching the issue of masturbation with our kids.
Because what should be more embarrassing to Black people: Our safely jerking off in the comforts of our own home (as hilariously captured on your link) or our becoming a teen pregnancy, abortion and STD/HIV statistic?
We can't eliminate the most basic/natural urge. And sex has become the primary marketing tool for virtually EVERYTHING. So although we can't stop our kids from being aroused, at least we can provide an environment in which kids feel that it is okay for them to ease that torrential sexual tide in a way that is physically/emotionally safe.
I guess before I had daughters, I would have considered this untouchable subject matter. But now, considering the increasing incident of AIDS/HIV within the Black community, I would rather sanction them safely doing for/to themselves something that might otherwise kill them if done with others. |

Condoning masturbation and the end all be all answer to those community problems, cuz what happens when condoning masturbation leads to mutual masturbation( aw baby, didn't your dad say aint nothin wrong wit playin witcha self? I'm just gone do it FOR you, and you do it FOR me..." type is? and that of course could lead to oral encounters (that aint really sex neither right?)
and from there...well who knows?
My point is there ARE no easy solutions to the problems regarding sex and teens broached in this conversation. |

I don't assert/imply that "bopping" or anything else is some panacea for our social ills. But sex is largely about about time/opportunity/inclination. So if you can help your kids to stay busy ("time/opportunity") and can keep themselves at least mildly sated ("inclination"), then perhaps they'll get into a little less trouble than they otherwise would. And in this day/time, that's really all a parent can reasonably expect to achieve.
And, yeah, self-petting can lead to some illicit petting elsewhere. But I would wager that those who have NOT talked with their parents are every bit as (if not MORE) likely to engage in such as those who have. |

For what it's worth, research shows that the time period from 3 pm to 7 pm is the time that most juvenile illicit/inappropriate activities occur. I would imagine that is because that is when there is the least parental supervision. So, I agree that sports and activities which keep kids busy during those hours will certainly keep them away from their peers who are out there doing all the wrong things. |

You're certainly entitled to your own opinion and when the time comes, you'll raise your kids how you want to. But as far-fetched as it may seem to you, it has worked for our family and I'm a firm believer of the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" philosophy. |

hey, if it works for your family, as you say, don't break it. However, even something that has never been broken, springs a leak, or develops a crack every now and then. I don't know you or your family, so I really can't comment on how its working--or not. And yes, I will raise my children the best I can when the time comes, as shall we all. Aint a human alive that is invulnerable and Im sure I will make some mistakes, just as you and ABm and all other parents do. |
