I don't intend to offend anyone, especially those who were affected by the 911 attacks. But...WOW!
What do you all think? Doesn't it seem rather odd that SO MUCH money has been exchanged in this tragedy?
It is almost as though all the hoopla/gratuity/money surrounding the terrorist attacks diminish the importance/severity of killings/deaths that aren't related to 911.
And wouldn't a better way to the honor those killed on 911 be to use most of those billions to help install measures/protections to prevent another 911 from occurring?

9/11 Victims Received $38.1 Billion in Compensation
Payments Came From Insurance, Government, Charities

WASHINGTON (Nov. 8) - Victims of the Sept. 11 attacks received $38.1 billion in compensation, with insurance companies picking up the largest portion of the tab, according to a study released Monday.
The report by Rand Institute for Social Justice found that civilians killed or injured have received an average of $3.1 million per person from the government, charities and insurance companies, or $8.7 billion.
Emergency personnel killed or injured were given a total of about $1.9 billion. First responders received an average of $1.1 million more than civilians with similar economic losses, the study found. Most of the extra money came from charities.
Insurers paid 51 percent of the overall total, or about $19.6 billion. The government distributed $15.8 billion, or 42 percent, and charities paid $2.7 billion, or 7 percent.
The majority of the money went to New York City businesses, which received $23.3 billion, according to Rand. Three out of every four dollars that went to businesses came from insurance companies..." |

But aren't they talking about those victims with families? Many of them were execs, especially the firm that lost almost their entire staff (Morgan Stanley?)...the families certainly need it because that is a major loss of income, forever. The administrative folk and the people in service such as the Windows on the World staff needed and received just as much, I think.
But let me know if I am misinterpreting your question....
I think that the money going to prevent another 9/11 comes from Congress to the tune of about the same amount, though most of it is going to the war.
Did the 9/11 book say anything about further prevention expenses?
What surprised me the most about all of this were the amount of folks that were claiming to have lost relatives, and found out to be frauds! That's just SICK. |

I am not referring to whatever someone received via insurance. Their families are as rightfully entitled to that money as they would be under any other circumstances. I am referring to all the charity/government money that's being spreaded around.
Hey. In the time it took you to type a response to my post, about 300 - 600 Americans died.
In virtually ALL the instances of their passing, there was no hoopla, no national mourning, no multi-million dollar charity, etc.
And more than a few of them died penniless, unloved...and alone (some even on the cold/dirty streets).
So, I am not intending to diminish the tragic/unfortunate passing of those who perished during 911.
But how are any one of their deaths any more tragic than a 9 year old who is senselessly killed in a driveby shooting and whose impoverished mother can't even afford to give her a decent funeral?
I'm just asking if we kinda 'overdosed' on the 911 thing.
Also, how much money has been spent to protect/secure the New Yorkers and DC citizens, who still are prime targets for future terrorist attacks? Has anywhere NEAR that amount money been spent on THAT?
No.
Per my reading of the 911 Commission Report, the nation remains WOEFULLY negligent in securing those cities. There STILL remain a myriad ways/places we can be attacked, inspite of the $40B that are being doled out to Bush's Homeland (In)Security (AKA "GOP Crony Grabbag") Program.
And Babygirl. You gottah know that anytime you've got THAT kinda dough being dealt out, the charlatans and grifters are going to be crawling out of the woodworks. |

The biggest beneficiary of the 9/11 tragedy was George W. Bush. And, as he now informs us, he has the capital and he is going to spend it. |
